The other night, my husband and I were looking for something different. The OpenTable reviews of Willi's were so good that we thought we'd give it a try. What a wonderful surprise to have such an interesting place right in our neighborhood. The food was delicious and the service was great. It was just a bit noisy (I think there was a party going on), but overall the ambience was really nice. We sat outside, had some wine, ate some small plates. The food is always outstanding and the ability to pair wine with each plate is great. Never disapponted and the menu selections are outstanding. All small plates. 3 or 4 small plates each is more than enough. And the choice to select 2 oz., 5 oz. 1/2 bottle or full bottle let's you create your own wine pairings with each "course". Everything we had was excellent. I only wish they had room on the patio to dine outside instead of in the bar area near the kitchen door. The wine list provided many by-the-glass choices and the food was outstanding. In Paris you go to Willi's for its rich history and ambiance. The California version is not a "knock-off", it is a great choice on it own merits. Willi's had an amazing wine list and fabulous small plates to go with them. We had scallops, trout, goat cheese fritters, mu shu,... every dish more wonderful than the previous. The last plate was Tunisian carrots--you have to taste them to believe how delectable they are. The desserts were scrumptious too! Truffle fries was OK but no surprises. Grilled asparagus was nicely done. Fava bean bruschetta with burrata cheese lacked in special flavour (no discernible flavour of fava bean puree and burrata low in flavour). Riblets were asian style and nicely flavoured but some were a little dry on the outside from the roasting.
Good selection of wine at reasonable prices for the area.

We arrived on a busy Saturday evening but were seated right away with our Open Table reservations. We chose the outside patio to enjoy the beautiful evening, under the heaters it was perfect into the later evening. Our service was exemplary, friendly staff and helpful with our selections. The food was beyond good, each dish was an experience of flavors. I would highly recommend this restaurant to foodies and anyone who enjoys trying something new.
