Diner Reviews
  • "For a relaxed ambience, inventive & delicious cocktails with great service, Willie Jane is a great place to check out on the Westside. Shrimp & grits are truly delicious. Peach & burrata salad was less impressive and would have preferred the phenomenal BBQ sauce on pork ribs instead of beef. I'll definitely come back to try other items from the menu."

  • "This was my first time dining at Willie Jane's. I thought my dining experience there was for the most part pretty good. The only thing I found interesting - is that there is no flexibility with the menu. 'Meaning, that you can't mix your main Entrées with other substitute items on the menu'. I had a few friends that, I dined with and needed to sub a few items to meet there dietary needs and it was 'No-can-do". So, a little bummed there. But, overall the food was solid. Great way to spend a weekday evening with a few friends or co-workers."

  • "Very good regional cooking; pleasant ambiance, average service. I'd give it a 8 on a scale of 1 to 10."

  • "We had a group of 8 for apost graduation party and all of us had a wonderful time. Can't wait to go back and try more things. Everything from the cocktails to the biscuit and shrimp and grits was outstanding. The service couldn't have been better!"

  • "Fried chicken and waffles were outstanding as were the biscuits with burnt orange butter. The presentation of the food is as good as it tastes. The service is very friendly and professional. Parking out back is very convenient since you can enter and leave through the back door. This was our first time but it won't be the last."

  • "Definitely a nice place to dine. Food is a bit pricey, but the atmosphere of the restaurant makes up for it. The staff was extremely nice/friendly and seemed focused on making sure the dining occasion was superb. I was disappointed that one particular dish was no longer available, yet it was on the online menu (I was a tourist, so I had viewed the menu prior to my arrival). The restaurant gives the option of online ordering; probably not a good idea since the online menu does not match what is actually available. I would suggest dining at Willie Janes, but don't look at the online menu. Expect to pay a bit more than normal (fancy food names always raise the price), but you'll enjoy the dining experience."

  • "Met 5 friends for brunch. Food was just mediocre - eggs were overcooked. They do not serve any kind of toast, bread, muffins or biscuits with any of the brunch entrees. In order to get same you had to order a biscuit a la carte for $2. Service was spotty. Decibel level was high and difficult to hear my companions. In addition, even though the other two restaurants next door validate for parking, this one doesn't and street parking is almost impossible to find. We will not be returning."

  • "My dining companion and I experienced a small earthquake while we were there for dinner. But the food was also moving. And delicious! Great service from a terrific waitstaff, very friendly and helpful restaurant manager who came to our table several times to make sure we were enjoying ourselves, and a yummy pan- seared chicken entrée. Terrific brussels sprouts side dish, too. And some amazing desserts. Overall, a wonderful dining experience."

  • "We were so disappointed by the extremely slow service on Mother's Day. Everyone one around us including at least 3 tables who arrived after us. The bottomless mimosas and flowing biscuits & sticky buns kept us entertained but no one apologized nor explained why our food took over an hour to be delivered to our table. It was Mothers Day so we stayed chill . . . But really? Despite the inventive & tasty menu . . . Don't think we'll be back. Not sure kitchen is sized to serve seating capacity at Willie Jane. "

  • "I came here for the 1st time for Mother's Day Brunch. Their brunch menu only had to additional items for Mother's Day, however, we were overall pleased with our choices. The waffles were light and fluffy. The mix of sweet and spicy added a unique flavor, yet the chicken was less like Roscoe's and more like KFC tenders. Also, I had to remind the waitstaff that we had ordered an appetizer. The waiter forgot to put it in and then didn't offer to comp it when received it after our meal. We ordered dessert and received no utensils. My son's ice cream was half melted before we were able to get a spoon. It was definitely not the best customer service I would have expected for a Mother's Day Brunch. "

  • "My second outing, and it was a big improvement over the first. Shrimp and grits, biscuits, and collard greens were amazing. No over salting this time!. Service began spot on, but things got slightly off track. The service became noticeably less attentive & the kitchen faltered. One entree came out about 8 minutes before the other three; and I had to have them heat up the pork chop, which was luke warm at best. But then everyone recovered. We were given a comped dessert (a good sign that our waiter noticed, too). I suspect the kitchen & staff just briefly got a half step behind on a crazy busy Saturday night. I'll gladly go back, especially since signs point to a third visit being the charm, and everything being precise from start to finish!"

  • "We had 8:30pm reservations (for 4 people), didn’t get sat till 8:55. Ketel One rocks with a lime was served as Ketel One lemonade. Then when the next drink came, I was told that they don't carry Ketel One so they poured Tito’s Vodka. 3 of the 4 entrees were served; the fourth entree came 18-20 minutes after. I ordered Sea Bass and receive Trout. Brussels Sprouts were delicious!! Similar thing happened with the desserts- order three desserts, received 2 of them. After 15 minutes, we asked to cancel it. Without asking, the manager came to the table to ask our experience. She returned with our bill, mentioned she took care of a few things. Her idea of "taking care of a few things" was removing the V lemonade & dessert which never arrived."

  • "Two Texas women with a great knowledge of dining and cooking were very impressed by the selections, execution and presentation. We loved what we ordered and coveted what the tables around us had. Pork chop, Brussels sprouts, trout, chess pie...perfect . The cocktails were balanced, not sweet and the wine selection by the glass was a dream . I found myself telling everyone about this place like a pr person . Oh! The deviled eggs! "

  • "We came to Willie Jane for Easter and were seated on their outside patio. The waitress could not have been more pleasant and accommodating. She made great food recommendations - the spicy Chicken and Waffles was absolutely incredible. The bottomless mimosas were delish and only $15. Definitely will be coming back here again soon for brunch!!"

  • "My wife is from North Carolina and our family visits every year where we have our fair share of typical Southern-style food. So, first off, our 14 year old son found that there was no sweet tea on the menu, as he said "that's like going to an Italian Restaurant that has no pasta". Gourmet food or not, having no hush puppies would never cut in the South. Not to mention no form of barbeque. But, as a music lover, I found the worst thing at Willie Jane was the terrible choice in music - what are they thinking? It sounded vaguely like a bit of Southern Rock mixed with the Rolling Stones and other hackneyed 70's rock - not very sophisticated."

  • "Exceeded my expectations. I was expecting an overpriced "soul food" restaurant, however, it was everything but that. The food was excellent, well presented, very tasteful , perfectly seasoned and the accompanying sauces were right on. I had the cornmeal crusted trout and shared sides of cornmeal dumplings and a very different twist on Brussels sprout..........I would order all of these again. My only complaint would be having to pay two dollars for a "biscuit ""

  • "What a great surprise. We came here awhile back for brunch and it was really great then I simply forgot about it. We stumbled on it again the other night and I'm so happy we did. They have these odd crab cakes that are actually made from hearts of palm that are awesom. We had just a variety of apps to snack on and literally everything was great! I'm really looking forward to going back and trying more items."

  • "but Willie Jane made it better than tolerable! I began with the only thing I didn't love. Collard greens - AMAZING. Biscuits - and that butter with honey and orange - out of this world. And. I'm from Alabama, so I started out worried that there wasn't plain butter. I ended up asking for more of their creation. And the cast iron chicken was crispy on the outside and moist and tender inside - so, so, so good. Also, our martinis were perfect. Can't wait to go back and try more."

  • "We had the vegan pre-fix on a Sunday night and the food was stunning. All three courses were great, the starter and the desert were so good I could not believe they were actually vegan."

  • "I came for the fried chicken but fell in love with the deviled eggs and biscuits. This is not fancy food; it's satisfying food. The Macaroni and Cheese has a great sauce but could be crispier around the edges. Good service too and did I say friendly. This is a great place to eat."

  • "We were a group of four. They let us pick our table and the chef immediately sent over some buttermilk biscuits (free) because he had found us waiting in the bar area (even though we hadn't been waiting more than a couple of minutes while our table was being prepared). As a group, we had Grouper (yummy), fried chicken (very yummy), hanger steak (outstanding) and trout (very yummy). The desert, chocolate chess pie, was fabulous. And, I highly recommend trying some of the signature cocktails and the dark lager. The service was great and the atmosphere fun. A very easy and comfortable place."

Both warm & professional staff bring on the Southern Comfort- and the bar scene is neighborhood energy at it's best. Luv ya Willie Jane"

  • "I live around the corner from WJ and would have been ecstatic to write a great review. I loved Lily's (not sure why it closed) and never tried WISC but WJ is the strangest menu ever. We came specifically for drinks and appetizers, believing all the reviews about how great the bar is, and found that the cocktails were small and overpriced. $15 for about four sips of manhattan. not worth it. The bisquits were delicious but sit at the bar if you want to be impressed by the bar. Otherwise, just overpriced."

  • "Went with my man and two young teens for a family dinner that would still feel fun. They loved the back yard feel with twinkle lights and mason jars. We loved the hipster vibe and cocktails. It was the prefect compromise for them to feel grown up and us to feel like we had date night. They even accommodated the youngsters with virgin drinks to match ours. Chose to share family style. The pimento cheeseboard and pork drumsticks were surprising highlights. All the Vegi sides were solid and the biscuits and Mac and cheese were big hits with the kidos. The best part was the communal atmosphere of the back room. All the tables around us were having a great time and no one was afraid to ask each other what they ordered and how it was."

  • "The food, service and wine/cocktails were very good. The portions were perfect. Not too big and not too small. The meals were appropriately priced. I say this because often restaurants give you way more food than you can eat and charge way more than is reasonable. I've felt often that restaurants should cut their portions and cut the price to match the portion size. This restaurant accomplished this. The staff was very attentive to our group of 8 that included two children."
