Diner Reviews
  • "Willie G's never disappoints. I dined there with some friends and our server paced our meal so that we weren't rushed to finish up. They hadn't been and they all enjoyed the Willie G's dining experience from top-to-bottom. The only downside - it was night and a car facing into the front window of the restaurant had its headlights on high beam and patrons had to ask for the blinds to be lowered. Someone at the restaurant should have taken this initiative. It was only for a few minutes but it was disconcerting."

  • "Great atmosphere. Yummy food. Fun and friendly staff. Nice to be able to use the Landry's Club card. I've had both lunch and dinner there now, awesome experience both times."

  • "We ordered the shrimp tempura - My wife took the first skewer and found that the shrimp had not been cleaned or deveined.....You dont expect a steakhouse where they charge a lot to cut corners in not cleaning shrimp and just adding batter and frying it thinking that patrons will eat it without a care....manager came and apologized (sounded like a fake apology) and took it off the check...that's about it...did not offer a free replacement or anything else to make us feel better....we will not return!!"

  • "I can't say enough great things about my experience at Willie G's. From the great food, the AMAZING service, the ambiance and the music, it was dining at it's finest. I had the Luccio Moscato which was so delicious I wanted to buy a bottle and the only thing that stopped me was the fact that it had to be uncorked first. The "Junk" fries appetizer was stellar! I would go back for those alone. I had the baked stuff shrimp and it was delicious! I would highly recommend visiting Willie G's if you have the opportunity!"

  • "thought I'd try a change of pace and check out this branch of the Houston chain and compare. place wasn't full, but somewhat louder than I would have liked or expected. service was acceptable but with some miscommunication. black and blue mahi mahi a bit overseasoned and possible slightly overcooked but blue cheese butter made it much better."

  • "Dined earlier than normal and they were not very busy by 6:30, except the Happy Hour group, but the crowd picked up before we left. Staff were very friendly and attentive throughout the meal. Began our meal by sharing the crabcake as an appetizer and it was delicious---crunchy outside but very moist inside. Not very spicy which is my favorite. Each ordered the red snapper but one was Melissa (with shrimp, scallops, crab meat, and mushrooms) and other was Charlie (with generous portion of crabmeat); each was accompanied by carrots and asparagus. Very well presented on hot plate and the touch of lemon butter sauce made it a perfect balance. Completed meal with their key lime pie served with blackberries and grapes. All choices were excellent!"

  • "All four of us were very happy with every element of our visit, from the cocktails to the desert. Our server was also terrific. He went the extra mile throught, even bringing a taste of two different wines for us to help with our choice. We were all very pleased and will definitely return."

  • "We were a party of nine people and everyone really enjoyed their food, the wine and cocktails and the atmosphere, the only negative comment I heard from our group was that it was too dark to read the menu. I have to agree, it needs a little more light, maybe a little lamp on each table. This will not keep me from going back for more good food but its just a suggestion to make it even better. We all had a wonderful evening!"

  • "I asked for Brussels Sprouts just plain steamed - different from the way they were offered on the menu and to my surprise and delight they were done perfectly. By far the best I've ever had (away from home) Also worth noting -the parking valet anticipated our departure and had the car rolling up just as we reached the kerb. Note to new customers, valet parking must be approached from the East on 4th Street and not on Congress St"

  • "First trip to this location. Have liked other Willie G's and food was excellent, but our servers were slow and inept, confused orders, served the men first, etc. Bad service sure can ruin an otherwise great meal! Did not have the best experience. Enjoyed the food and will likely give WG's another chance--our servers were just slow and inept. Confused the orders, served the men first, were very slow in brining out the food with long delays between courses even though we told the waitress up front that we were going to the theatre and what time we needed to leave--we were seated at 6:00 and told her we needed to leave no later than 7:30 an dour party of 4 was still rushed at the end!"

  • "Enjoyed a fantastic Valentine's dinner at Willie G's. From the free valet parking to the dinner check, everything was just perfect. Waiter was exceptionally helpful and patient. My wife noticed our table was the only table with a vase of roses - let me tell you that ordering flowers at the same time you book your reservation on Open Table works quite well. Our biggest problem was deciding what to have. The sea bass melted in my mouth. We decided we'll return to Willie G's whenever we're in the mood for a nice evening out in downtown Austin."

  • "Willie G's is a Landry's Group asset. WG's physical brick and mortar is standard fare black acrylics, glass, dark wood, etc, that would be the perfect compliment to great service and a fairly creative - if not, distinctive - menu, if that was possible here, but alas, that is not the case with this churned out example of what a far-removed "creative" person in management thinks a place like this should be. Unfortunately, this comes off as a plasticine example of what a real steak and seafood experience should be. And you feel it - for sure. Drinks were too sweet, under-alcoholed,...Bread came as an afterthought with the entree (ok, I had to ask for it) Shoe-string fries were a part of this menu: that's enough to dismiss this place."

  • "Did not live up to the price of the food. The Kobe ribeye and the cowboy rib eyes were good, but not cooked medium rare as we ordered. They were almost rare. The king crab macaroni and cheese was descent, but for $15 dollars for the side dish of it was ridiculous. Especially since finding a piece of crab was like finding a needle in a hay stack. Sixty and fifty-eight dollars for the steaks. $20 for bacon wrapped quail that was hard to chew. Very over priced food and the tables were too close together. Barely leaving enough room to move around when I had to walk to the restroom. Not very romantic when your bumping other guests tables and they have to push their seats in so you can get by. Poor floor plan. Service was poor. Save your money."

  • "While the wine and food was excellent, we unfortunately hit a night where the kitchen service was hit and miss. We waited nearly an hour for our main course to arrive with no explanation from our server (until after we'd finished our meal) or a manager. While we were comped a desert at the end we were still charged a to go fee for it. While we were waiting others were seated and got their meals well before ours arrived. We'd like to go back as there were several menu items we want to try."

  • "My wife and I tried this place for Valentine's Day and we're very happy that we did. We were seated in the main dining area which seemed crowded, but there was ample space since mostly couples were dining. We were quickly greeted at the table and brought two complimentary glasses of Rose which was a nice touch. Our oysters, salad, Filet and Snapper Melissa all exceeded our expectations. The light music and low lighting made it feel intimate even though we were in an open area. Our only issue was that our waitress was a bit aloof. In fairness, it was a busy night and she was kind, professional and gave us time to enjoy the company. We would certainly recommend this well-located, beautiful restaurant and recommend the Snapper Melissa"

  • "we went here for our anniversary/bday. we wanted to experience an upscale restaurant. found this place on open table and made reservations. I was expecting absolute deliciousness and was highly disappointed. we started off with the oysters. it was okay. it made me miss san Francisco. then we had the calamari. that was probably the best part but still forgettable. I had the stuffed crab jumbo shrimp. it was salty and the pasta that came with it was overwhelmed with either butter or oil. the shrimp was chewy too. my husband had the steak with Mac and cheese. with a couple of drinks with our meal, it was about $130. I only ate two of the stuffed crab and tossed out the rest. I had high expectations and was let down. not worth it."

  • "Service was a little slow. We were a group of 10 with reservations. It took almost an hour to get our entrees after ordering. Table was good but was the first table in front of the door so it was cold every time the door was opened. The food was very good."

  • "My husband and I have a tradition of surf and turf for New Year's Eve dinner. We thought we'd give this a try. First problem: we were told that there would be a valet for our 5:30 reservation. The valet on duty that night did not arrive until 6. The confirmation person needs to check the valet schedule before offering it. Second problem: My shrimp was rubbery and kinda gross. They did have good lobster bisque and replaced my meal quickly with something new. The waiter was great!! But food should be cooked right the first time. One this that did astonish me is the amount of children around. I did not originally see that as a child friendly atmosphere. Lucky the kids around us were well behaved!"

  • "We had a reservation after a theatrical play and we wound up arriving very early due to the play being shorter than we planned. They were able to accommodate us without any problems. The food was wonderful with a nice assortment of wines, several of which we have actually had before. We have definitely found another restaurant we can add to our Dinner after a show list!"

  • "The food and service were both good, but portions were quite small relative to the price. Our worst choice was the $15 glass of Santa Margherita Pinto Grigio -- even given the typical restaurant markup, this was a ridiculously overpriced bad glass of wine. We dine out frequently and don't mind paying a premium for a good meal, but didn't feel we got our money's worth here."

  • "Celebrating my birthday dinner at Willie G's was indeed a special occasion. Chef came to our table with a special appetizer, welcoming us to Willie G's and thanking us for choosing Willie G's. For there the Oysters, Ahi tuna and Sea Bass appetizers were amazing, Amber Jack and Sea Bass were fabulous as well. Atmosphere was similar to other high end restaurants in town. Enjoyed the experience."

  • "This was my third or fourth meal at Willie G's and it's great every single time. The raw gulf oysters are excellent and reasonably priced, the blackened scallops are to die for, and the catfish, and shrimp jambalaya, are just as good. For non-fish lovers, the steaks are great and the chicken milanese is relish.Service has been prompt and friendly every time, and the atmosphere is classy but relaxed."
