We all started with the mushroom bread pudding, which continues to be remarkable. We also shared the kale salad and tableside caesar salad. Two of us had tableside New York steaks, plus a salmon entree and seafood pasta. All were prepared quite well. For dessert, we shared two of the mango cakes a la mode, which were very remarkable. The food is outstanding and the service is even better. Everyone there has personality and the decor is tastefully done. The Steak Diane melts in your mouth. Really everything was perfect from the friendly and engaging staff to great cocktails and truly delicious dinner. We sat in high backed elegant and comfy chairs, enjoyed live jazz with guest Katerina on sax and vocals and marveled that we hadn't come here more often. We go out several times a month and are particular about the quality of food we consume. We also appreciate good wine and drinks. The mushroom bread pudding is really unique and a great appetizer. I had the salmon and my spouse had the halibut, which were both prepared very well. The food was precisely prepared, flavorful without being overbearing, beautifully presented without being showy, and nicely balanced. We both agreed Wilf's is our new favorite place in Portland. He was hilarious, informative, professional, and did I mention fabulous? Lol the food was amazing!! I had the French onion soup, steak Diane, then the Oreo cake for dessert... Everything at this place is made there, not frozen in the back. Local, sustainable, fresh made food... Even the ginger ale is made there! I would definitely go back on a special occasion since the prices were very high and I'm a poor college student. Not over dry or undercooked. The side dishes were tasty as well. The green beans were cooked al dente and that is how I like them. Service was stellar. Reasonably priced wine list. The over sized chairs are some what cumbersome. The ambience feels somewhat in the past like 40-50 years ago, which you either like or don't care for. One issue is the band. The service was superb throughout the evening from the maitre'd to serving staff. As we started the main course, a very good jazz band began to play in the bar, which was a perfect accompaniment to the meal.
