Diner Reviews
  • "We brought several friends this time. As usual, we shared the mushroom bread pudding, which is remarkable. For appetizers, we all tried salads and one had the french onion soup. For entrees, we tried much of the entrees. The favorites were the pasta, salmon & steak diane (made tableside). Overall, the experience was very good, particularly with a live jazz band playing in the bar."

  • "Wilf's is a perfect example of Mad Men era style with a modern update. The classic style and service are enhanced by forward-thinking chefs who use locally sourced and sustainable ingredients. The menu has been updated to include separate vegan and vegetarian menus. The service is always friendly and the table side prep of certain items is a fun option. The bar menu is also notable."

  • "I went for the March dining special. It was wonderful. The service is SUPERB....I went to the restroom and came back to find the waiter had retreived my napkin from the floor and folded it back in its proper place beside my plate.....WOW. The food was all fresh and locally raised...YUM YUM"

  • "The food is good, the service is exceptional. But with even the small little food cart offering "organic, sustainable food made from scratch" there really is no reason to pay these exorbitant prices, because frankly, while the food here is good, there are numerous places in this city where the quality of the food is much better. This is a place for the 0.001%."

  • "From the comfortable high backed chairs to the flaming Steak Diane Wilf's is leisurely dining as it used to be. The wait staff are attentive and personable. The menu, wine list and cocktail list offer a variety of food and drink. The onion soup and Truffle Bread Pudding are excellent."

  • "We enjoyed some nice, but overpriced food @ Wilfs. Our main reason for going was to listen to Tom Grant at the piano which was lovely. Service was o.k., not great."

  • "We (two couples) went to dinner on Friday night and were shown to our table by an amiable maitre'd. The drinks were good, the service was attentive, and I enjoyed the live music. The food however was so-so and took a long time to get to the table. It was like the kitchen was unprepared for any diners on a Friday night. I also thought it was quite expensive. My half - which included cocktails, wine, dinner, dessert, and tip - came to $211."

  • "Wonderful dinner, service and private concert by Michael Allen Harrison and Julianna Johnson, who could ask for more?"

  • "Steak Diane was extremely tough. NOT filet. Was served cold. Drinks are way over priced for what you get. Michael Allen Harrison playing there salvaged the evening."

  • "Jazz, dinner, and excellent service. Portion size of food was a bit small for the price, but the food quality was very good. Reasonable wine selection and full bar service."

  • "Wilf's reminds you of the difference between eating and dining. Nicely spaced service assures you that you've not been forgotten and gives you time to chat between courses. The service is excellent with the waiter making appropriate wine and meal suggestions. The food is divine! This is by far one of Portland's best dining establishments!"

  • "Glad to have a Groupon as a way to encourage me to try Wilf's for the first time. Service was excellent, food was excellent, and I enjoyed the jazz musicians playing in the lounge -- just far enough away from the dining side of the restaurant to be enjoyable but not too loud to not be able to have a conversation with my dinner companions."

  • "Was not impressed. Had a lunch meeting and found the server surly and wasn't super friendly. My salad was fine but i requested dressing on the side. The server never returned to ask if the food was okay, didn't refill my water and gave us no attention. And I was actually shocked that the salad was $18--way too expensive for what it was. Love the ambience but between the okay service and the mediocre food, I would not return."

  • "Great ambience and wonderful staff! The food on the other hand, left a lot to be desired. they must have been out of tenderloin medallions for the "Steak Diane", so they substituted a cut of meat that was very similar to pot roast. The mushrooms were all but non existent, and we were not informed that the mashed potatoes had goat cheese in them. Considering goat cheese has such a pungent taste, I am sure there are more than a few people that dislike it. I am Definitely in that crowd!"

  • "Always wanted to go there so I took my sweetie for Valentines day and was disappointed in the food. Our meal was very expensive and the flavors were just so, so. However, the jazz music was fabulous."

  • "Train the waitress on how to present specials not just read it in monotone and not knowing what she was reading, I had steak Diane wife had scallops both were mediocre,. Music was great would be a nice drinking bar"

  • "We had 5:00pm reservations and checked in at 4:45pm, there was no one in the dining room, so we sat in a booth in the bar. A little after 5:00 we noticed that they were seating others in the dining room so I went back up to the front desk and asked to be seated. The sat us at the second table from the entrance, a small table right as you entered the dining room, there were only about three other couples seated in the entire dining room, they apparently were saving the "nice" booths and seats form special guest, let me just say right now, the nice both table next to us sat empty the ENTIRE time we were there as did many other nicer tables and booths. In general, I would say Wilf's is overpriced for the quality of food and the service."

  • "We went here for Valentine's day. We enjoyed the atmosphere. The restaurant is in the old train station and the live jazz was excellent especially the singer. The menu is not especially creative and the wine list is not extensive. I have to say the steak Diane was excellent. But for a "good restaurant" you are paying a "5 star" price. I am not going to not recommend it, but we probably won't be going back any time soon."

  • "We thought that it would be fun to see the restored train station and enjoy a valentine's lunch. Wow, what a disappointment. The prime tables with view of the train yards and at the windows were set for dinner and could not be used for lunch. The lunch tables had no table cloths at all, and they were crammed in the middle of a big empty room with all of the prime tables set for dinner! There was only one other table occupied. The lounge area had some customers, and tables at the window. The ambiance was poor. The wait staff changed several times during the course of the meal. The initial seater was pleasant, but all others were short and somewhat surly. The food was unremarkable. Stale, toasted sourdough white bread on the club sandwich."

  • "I didn't even remember this restaurant existed and we had a groupon so we, of course, had to give it a try! The service was first rate, the ambiance was very relaxing. And I mean that when we left I realized I hadn't been that relaxed in a very long time! John [I believe his name was] was terrific, good sense of humor, very fancy without being stuffy service. The food was delicious as well! I had steak Diane and hubs had a different steak - I just can't recall which. Both were beautifully cooked, the sides were great as well. We will definitely be back!"

  • "I came down by train from Seattle for the day on a bus man's holiday specifically to have lunch at Wilf's. I had seen the restaurant before on previous trips to Portland and had read a review of the establishment and decided to try it out. Excellent choice! Food was great and the staff very friendly and attentive. I will definitely dine there again on further trips to Portland."

  • "The food menu was very old fashion / classic, but VERY good. We went there for the music. It was excellent entertainment and nice from a distance in the dining section. The closer bar section probably was a little loud. Nice attentive service, old fashion at your table flambé was nice. Wine by the glass had good choices. It is a little pricy, but not much over normal. Directly next to the Railroad Station allowed for easy parking, which can be difficult in town."

  • "The service is divine and the food is wonderful. Always have to have the Cesar Salad tableside and the Cafe Diablo at the end of the meal. I am not sure why more people don't know about Wilf's as it is like a high end dining experience. Being located in Union Station and its fun to watch the trains. We have really enjoyed dining here during the Christmas holiday as the decorations are always festive."

  • "We really love Wilf's. The food & service are remarkable, and having really good music makes it a great experience. We started with a special gratin, which was delicious. I ordered a New York (baseball cut), which was cooked perfectly and tasted great. My spouse ordered the steelhead and enjoyed it considerably."

  • "The catch of the day looked like it had sat under the heater a little too long and tasted like it had. It wasn't that tasty. I had had a fish dish at oswego grill two nights before and theirs were a lot better."

  • "Excellent food, ambiance, and service. The "steak Diane" was excellent. Combined with jazz. Made the evening really special."

  • "I had checked the on-line bar menu before going to Wilf's for the first time to hear my friend sing, and was reassured there were vegetarian choices, but when we got there, we were told that it was a much more limited menu, and I couldn't order the portobello mushroom burger that was listed---in fact, just a green salad, without protein, for $11. My partner had a Cesar salad with shrimp, also disappointing and overpriced. We'd been told there were spaces to park for Wilf patrons, but all those spaces were taken, and there was no metered street parking available, so we paid $7 for 2 hours. We hurried out to the car 7 minutes over, and were fined $44---the attendant who had just put the ticket on our windshield wouldn't even talk to us!"

  • "We came to celebrate my wife's birthday, and at first our hopes were high. There were beautiful Christmas decorations everywhere with romantic jazzy Christmas songs in the background. The waiter was the best I have ever had. He gave us a wonderful rundown of the menu, and truly made us feel welcomed. The food however, was over-hyped. They boast sustainable, fresh foods, and I'm sure they were, it just didn't taste very good. My salmon, kale, and pilaf combo was overly salty. My wife's peppered steak tasted only of pepper. For the price you pay, the food is not at all worth it. Save your money and go to the Old Spaghetti Factory four times before coming here."

  • "We had excellent service from the host and the waiter. The live music was a little loud for visiting at the table, but we were about to leave when she started. We would come back for the food, but not the music."

  • "We came to Wilf's to eat dinner and see an excellent jazz. When we arrived, the wait staff were standing at the entrance desk. The reception person noted our reservation and seated us in the bar. The waiter took my husband's drink order, then went back to the front desk where he and the rest of the wait staff stayed for the rest of the evening. We finally went and asked for some food service. appetizers were grudgingly provided. Several patrons got up and looked behind the bar for at least some water. No one was offered a second drink even long after theirs were empty. The wait staff stood at the front desk talking and ignoring customers. I will come back to Wilf's for the music, but will eat and drink elsewhere before arriving."

  • "I love restaurants and going out. Seldom do I find one which makes me happy to have been there. Wilf's is the exception and what anyone would hope for in a dining experience. Fantastic all around from Manager to waiter, for food and entertainment of a fine dining experience WIlf's is it."

  • "If you want top-notch service and excellent food, this is your place. Expect to pay a bit more than average for Portland, and expect it to be fairly loud when the live music is going. Overall, our experience with a group of five was very enjoyable. The service was far above average."

  • "My parents and I went to Wilf's for dinner just before the opera last Friday night. What a great experience! The service is amazing, the food is succulent and the atmosphere is perfect for a wonderful dinner! I highly recommend the table-side dinner options! The stories alone that come with this service are worth the price of dinner. Thanks for a perfect evening!"

  • "I don't mind spending $200 on dinner, however I should feel good about it when I leave. The food was good, not outstanding. The portions were tiny compared to the prices. The savory bread pudding is amazing! The rest of the food was just "good". The bread was very bland. The service was outstanding and the steak Diane was fun to watch being prepared. If ever in Seattle, eat at The Metropolitan, OUTSTANDING food and a lot of it for the money. I spent $145 there and took a lot of food home and was stuffed to boot!"

  • "We have visited Wilf's before for the jazz and never been disappointed, so chose it for a birthday dinner to enjoy the music as well as dinner. The menu is tout Portland, local, sustainable, organic all over, and our dinner was outstanding. From the moment we walked in, service was impeccable, from maitre d' John as well as an attentive, friendly but not overly familiar staff. They even got the evening's singer to tackle a song she had never sung before as a birthday special. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up, and tip these people well! They deserve it!"

  • "The food was not good. The steak Diane was pre-cooked and basically "warmed" in the sautee pan that had a ton of butter and some mushrooms. The bread was even bland."
