Diner Reviews
  • "Before going into the restaurant, there was a girl whom I gave my name to in to regards to mule reservation. She was like a zombie or just woke up, not very professional at all. Them the hotness came out and lead us to our table. Maybe because it's summer and the restaurant decides to hire mostly students, therefore inexperienced staff. Unfortunately, it doesn't turn out too well. Maybe the staff in the evening are more seasoned. In terms of food, it wasn't too special either. For the price that you pay, you would expect a little more. I suggest you go in the market and find a better value restaurant. Food wasn't bad. The crepe was really good, so was the roast beef. However overall, it was not worth it in my opinion."

  • "Elegant dining but not 'stuffy'. Great service and lovely view if Parliament and river. Recommend the Crab cakes, halibut. And creme Brule."

  • "Everything about this restaurant is great. The food, staff, ambiance, however we are paying for it, so i'ts expected. One huge down side about the restaurant is the parking. You are given the choice to park at the hotel however its very pricey, almost the cost of a plate. They should subsidize (or at least partially) the parking for restaurant clients."

  • "The food was very good. Was disappointed they didn't have the red deer as stated on the menu. My wife forgot her sunglasses and when I went back, I couldn't find them. Apparently the bus boy had found them and left them with the front desk. The hostess searched everywhere and actually ran down the street to return them to us. What great service."

  • "My boyfriend took me to Wilfrid's for a romatic dinner during our visit to Ottawa - little did I know he was planning to propose later that night! Needless to say my Fiance and I had a lovely time and look back on a great meal that began a wonderful evening. "

  • "My husband and I went for brunch at Wilfrid's. Not our first time - we have enjoyed their wonderful selection of food in the past. This was still the case last Sunday. At $43 a person though, it is getting to be pretty steep for a brunch where you serve yourself, buffet style. It was our anniversary so the experience was worthwhile - the atmosphere and attentive service are outstanding. We'd reserve again, but for special occasions only. "

  • "Very disappointing food; EXTREMELY salty. Definitely not up to Fairmont standards. Staff good but not top notch given venue - seemed more intent on preparing set up for next day's breakfast sitting. Executive Chef did call us back promptly to discuss our concerns - appreciated that "

  • "Wilfred's, in the historic Chateau Laurier, is an overlooked gem that is worth a visit. It defines elegant dining with it's white napkins and gracious staff. The food is some of the best food in the city, a gastronomic feast with beautiful presentation. My family re-discovered Wilred's two years ago -- having abandoned it for more trendy spots -- and we've come back to enjoy it's impeccable service, gourmet food and beautiful views of Parliament Hill."

  • "Our group of four friends lunch together on a monthly basis, each of us taking turns to select the restaurant. When it's my turn, Wilfrid's is my preferred choice. I have never been disappointed by the food, the atmosphere or the service. On this occasion, our waiter, Karl was professional, helpful, efficient and friendly -- we couldn't have asked for better sevice. The food, as always, was superb. We will definitely be back soon."

  • "The food was fresh with a wonderful selection of hot and cold dishes. Everything was beautifully presented and appetizing. The restaurant has an elegant charm that I did not find anywhere else. The chairs are comfortable and overstuffed and the tables are impeccably set. The service was outstanding and we were all impressed. We went for a special occasion and will definitely return very soon to celebrate a birthday. Thank you for providing Ottawa with such an elegant restaurant with top quality food and service."

  • "We booked Wilfreds at my mother's request to celebrate her 83rd birthday and my 60th. She had fond memories of her first dinner there at the coming out age of 21. When booking I checked to be sure that this was the Chateau's premier restaurant so that she would not be disappointed. With only the sous chef to greet us, who took our coats after several minutes standing there, and again at the end of our meal with no one to retrieve our coats or send us off with a warm greeting the experience down to the place matted table was less than expected. The food was good and the table service good as we would expect. The experience overall for someone with this special occassion dinner choice on her bucket list at 83 years old was disappointing."

  • "The surroundings are nice. Food is good, service is good but too expensive specially the parking! $22 dollars for a couple of hours for parking on top of the $135 for two persons and no alcohol included."

  • "We were lucky enough to get a table for the Sunday Brunch the day before Family Day. Our table was lovely -- we had a great view of the Parliament Buildings. There was a great variety of food -- and all delicious. The service staff were wonderful. We will definitely be back."

  • "Although the Sunday brunch may be a little expensive, the food is plentiful and they have a very wide variety of it."

  • "We have been going to the Chateau Laurier, more particularly at Wilfried's restaurant, for the St-Valentine for quite a few years. We appreciate the ambiance, the food and the service. This year, we were told by an employee at the front door of the Chateau that the parking was reserved for the residents of the hotel; they were short of spaces. We were told to park at other locations closed by even though we had a reservation at the main dining too of the Chateau. Luckily we had our boots in the back of the car, otherwise we would have turned around and go for dinner at another restaurant. We had to park the car at another parking lot and had to walk in the wet snow a couple of blocks to get; same thing after dinner."

  • "Food was good, touch below Stering or Shoreclub, been here many times still a nice spot for dinner ( or brunch). First time I ever had to park myself at the Chateau, SINCE WHEN IS THERE NO VALET PARKING FOR OVERSIZED VEHICLES (Yukon) we'll there is but they just didn't want to do it. Prepare to walk through slush in your dress shoes."

  • "Wifrid's is renowned for its Sunday Brunch. It is pricier than most others but the food is outstanding and the service is impeccable ... which is why it is reserved for special occasions."

  • "Impeccable service and the most wonderful good experience. Served me quite possibly the best supper I have ever had!"

  • "Have to say that I was far from wowed by our recent trip to Wilfrid's. The style is rather stuffy and the scale of the furniture made it feel less intimate. The temperature in the room was freezing! I had to wear my S.O.'s jacket to make it through the meal. The food was good but not an oh Wow either. The server was very pleasant and fairly attentive so no complaints on that front. Next time I would choose some where else."

  • "All was great except for one very important issue. Even though the reservation was made a day ahead, restaurant had no record of my reservation. I had to show them my cell phone email confirming it."

  • "but, service is mediocre at best and food is just "good" considering pricepoint of menu items."

  • "Right from when you walk into this restaurant it oozes charm. We were seated by huge windows that looked toward the Parliament Buildings, with the lights & snow falling you could not ask for a better . We started with the crab cakes appetizer & they actually were mainly crab rather than filler. These were so delish we could have just had a plate of these & walked away thoroughly satisfied. My daughter had the roast beef, medium-rare with whipped potatoes & veggies....the presentation was fabulous & she couldn't stop raving about the tenderness of the beef or the wonderful flavour of the potatoes. The salmon I had was moist, full of flavour & the sides complimented the dish fabulously."

  • "A memorable and enjoyable evening!! From the moment we were welcomed until we departed, we were treated with great service and fantastic food & wine. We will definitely return, and we are sharing details of our experience at Wilfred's with friends and acquaintances. The birthday cupcake with candle presented on an inscribed plate was an extra special touch. Thanks again to all the staff at Wilfred's, especially Melissa.."

  • "Too many restaurants these days offer a nice ambiance but pack their places so tightly that a conversation at a normal speaking level is not possible. Wilfred's offer a classy location, good food and serve at a relaxing pace. With the pre-Christmas hustle and bustle, it was nice to dine with my Mrs. and talk over the events of the week and weekend plans. Her blackened salmon was moist and delicious and my prime rib was excellent. Yes, the place is pricey but when I consider how relaxed we both became over dinner, the service we received and how content we were when we left, I still think it offers good value. It's not a family restaurant but perhaps a sanctuary of sanity in a frantic city."

  • "Delicious. Prime rib jus cool and thick not to my preference. Our waiter Alex was perfect. The kitchen prepared an anniversary dessert plate that was a nice touch. Enjoyed Brunch. Loved the variety. Seasoning was perfect. Scrambled eggs were much too watery, not sure why they are served this way. Did not take full advantage but loved looking at it all. Again, the server was attentive and friendly. Management offered to send us off with some cookies. Declined the offer but thank you for asking. Sampled food with cocktails at Zoe's. Delicious. Service was less prompt but friendly. Friend joined us. Wanted ice for her scotch . Milk for her coffee. Best not to assume. Overall, lovely stay."
