Diner Reviews
  • "This was the first time we have eaten at this restaurant. It is small and intimate and the wait staff was good, but the food was pretty amazing. There were four in our party and everyone was scraping their dishes clean. It was also expensive and the portions were on the small side. But if you want really good food, this is the place to go."

  • "One of the closest restaurants to Strathmore. Pleasant atmosphere, very good service and good food."

  • "The fish of the day, a sea bass cooked in a paper wrap, was outstanding; mildly flavored with "many many spices", as the waiter answered when asked what kind, was very soft and tasteful. So was the duck; and the tiramisu was outstanding. Considering how busy it was, we were seated right away and service was fast and efficient, . The bread was an original: shredded buttered slices which required a second helping. Add the easy parking and you get a winner. It is a quiet strip mall, with nice shops which should be visited during the day. There is nothing to walk to after dinner except Balducci's, a high end supermarket where you can get some wine and cheese to enjoy either before or after. We should go back."

  • "Was in the area from out of state and needed to stop by to get a bit before attending a viewing. Will be back and told others who live in the area not to miss wildwood. Kitchen!"

  • "The service was not friendly. Moreover, our dirty plates were left on the table too long. The daily specials were not told. We were to ask for it. The salmon rillettes were extremely salty and poor;y prepared"

  • "I have never had anything but a first rate experience at Wildwood. The service is friendly and efficient, never intrusive. The food is always excellent and some dishes are outstanding. They are also beautifully and thoughtfully presented."

  • "Dining at Wildwood Kitchen feels like you are in a private space. Servers do not intervene too often and the booths are high-walled so you feel somewhat secluded to enjoy your special meal. All selections were special! This might be my new first choice for dining and long conversations with friends -- last two times there we stayed for almost 3 hours and no one made us feel like we should move on!"

  • "I read about the high accolades of the owner (Robert Wiedmaier) and his flagship restaurant Marcel's and thought it would be worth a try on a cold, wintry Saturday evening. First, I made a reservation for 6:30pm yet was not seated until 6:45pm though I saw two empty tables. We were finally seated at one of them. The pumpkin soup appetizer was spectacular. It was so good we asked if it was possible to get the recipe and the waiter took our email address and said the chef would email it to us. I doubt it will happen but a nice gesture nevertheless. The duck breast was ordered "medium" yet was served medium rare. The special of "Suckling Pig" was very, very good. Our waiter was first class. He was the highlight of the evening. Score: 89+"

  • "This restaurant is located in a strip mall but the interior is well done. The service is as good as it gets as the servers make sure that your experience is positive. It does get crowded as the place is narrow, but most seats are booths so you have a level of intimate privacy. The food menu rotates and it typically ranges from a fish dish to a meat dish. The food was preparation was unique and excellent."

  • "Very cordial, very comfy for mature people for lunch. Proper food imaginatively presented. Very tasty and well-prepared. A bit pricey for a suburban site, but the ambience and menu well above the location."

  • "We found the menu interesting and everyone enjoyed their meals, which turned out to be fish--salmon, cod, and I had octopus as a starter, which was very well cooked. The service was attentive without being oppressive. The ambience is pleasant, a bit noisy on a Saturday night, which was not surprising. The touted dessert was a chocolate mousse napoleon which was fine but underwhelming--not much of a napoleon, in that I've had them for dessert elsewhere and the two small pastry rounds were not even the mille-feuille pastry."

  • "I was looking for a local restaurant for a business lunch and this hit all the buttons. I needed a quiet roomy booth with good lighting and this was the perfect accommodation. The staff was friendly and efficient and didnt rush us as we were going through our agenda. The food was fresh and unexpected. We added shrimp to the Beet Salad which balanced it out just right. The special of the day was salmon salad on a croissant which was delicious. I will try this again to see what other dishes I might love."

  • "Made reservation for 6:45 Saturday. Arrived 10 min early and were asked to wait at the bar because our table was not ready. Fine, we were early. At 7,we still hadn't been seated. Were told the party was paying their bill. 7:15. No table. We were ultimately told that the couple at our table had mistakenly reserved a 5:30 table & showed up at 6:30 and they were give our table. We were finally seated at 8:30. Service, as always was great, food great. The disappointment came when we received our check. While we did not expect to have out $409+ meal comped, we thought that maybe a drink, dessert, coffee. Nope. I've eaten in lesser restaurants that at least make an effort to acknowledge their error other than saying sorry."

  • "Went for lunch on a Friday. The food was excellent. I ordered the octopus appetizer and the seafood stew. Others at my table ordered the scallops, duck liver pate, the lamb meatballs, and the chopped salad. The octopus was really tender and had a nice grilled flavor. The pate was really creamy and buttery. The stew had a nice assortment of seafood and they weren't chopped in to pieces which I thought was nice. The meatballs were delicious and had a nice amount of heat. Didn't try the scallops or the salad but the salad didn't look that great to me. Seemed a little plain/boring and the lettuce was turning a little brown. Overall, the food was fantastic and I'll definitely go back the next time we want to celebrate."

  • "My reservation was for a business lunch at 11:00 when Wildwood Kithcen opened. The atmosphere was pleasant for a serious business lunch and as we were leaving we noticed a marked increase in the energy level but not overly noisy."

  • "We have enjoyed Wildwood Kitchen a few times and came here for Valentine's Day. It was an early reservation and we had limited choices from the holiday set menu - BUT - the lamb was amazing and we loved every bit of food we had. The drink menu is fantastic and we just enjoyed everything on this visit."

  • "No complaints on the food or level of attention from the wait staff. Both were excellent. The host was not especially friendly, but interaction with him was minimal. Our chief complaint ---- after we paid our bill, we were asked to finish our wine at the bar to free up the table for the next reservation. I get it when an establishment has a full house and people lined up to be seated. But, rather insulting when half the restaurant is empty!!! We dropped a decent amount on dinner at the place too. So, it's not like we ordered a couple appetizers and hogged the table. Although we enjoyed the taste of our meal, we won't be back."

  • "Made reservation for 3 ppl, one in a wheelchair. I made note of this on my OT reservation. When we arrived the host showed us to one of the elevated booths! Does anyone read customers notes? However the problem was quickly solved and the rest of the evening was very pleasant. 3* for the food because the veal breast is very stringy & hard to cut. Will not recommend that dish. Salmon was excellent as was the lamb meatball. Great service that was well paced. Please keep up the good work an will see you all soon."

  • "A recent review called it as a very good "neighborhood restaurant"-but it's really so much more. We and our foodie guests were wow-ed. From personable, well-informed staff to pretty presentation of delicious dishes, and an affordable, well-selected wine list, this is for those who want a truly exceptional dining experience without "pretense." The grilled scallops appetizer had a haunting, gentle smokiness complemented beautifully by celery root gratinee, a taste that still lingers my memory. The cod on white beans, savoy cabbage with truffled cream was a very special dish and oh-so-comforting. Unobtrusive yet totally attentive service. It felt as if we were guests in the home of a first-rate host/hostess. A truly special dining experience!"

  • "We have now been here four times and it continures to offer outstanding food and exceptional serivice. While the menu is not large, it it quite varied with excellent specials. We were there on a Sunday night so it was only moderately busy. Can be noisy on very busy nights, but quite quiet when we were there. Wine list is not large but has some very interesting choices not always seen, escecially in Bethesda."

  • "This was my 4th dining experience at Wildwood Kitchen in the last 6 months. I've chosen a different dish each time and can't honestly choose a favorite because they were equally delicious. Half of my visits were for dinner and the other half lunch. I do recommend making reservations in advance because the restaurant isn't very big. The wait staff was very pleasant especially this past week."

  • "My wife and I were referred because we like Marcel's, and I think there is a connection. I had scallops and a tornad (like sea bass), and my wife had squash soup and salmon. The scallops were excellent, but unfortunately the high point of the meal. The 2 fish entrees were just fair, and the salmon was a little over cooked. No unusual or sumptuous tastes like I was used to at the Georgetown rest. The soup was just fair."

  • "I did not think the food was as good as prior trips. I had their signature lamb meatballs which were very plain, neither tasty or spicy as advertised.....The octopus appetizer was excellent, maybe I should have had two of those and skipped the main course....."

  • "We stopped at the Wildwood Kitchen on the spur of the moment and were delighted with the experience. The decor and ambiance were warm, inviting and intimate. This is a small restaurant, but the design makes it quite pleasant. The food was excellent. The service was good but not great. Recommend highly."

  • "We love this restaurant for its food, ambiance, service and drinks (both from the bar and from the wine list). Every time we go here, we have the best service from knowledgeable waiters who go out of their way to ensure you understand the menu and specials and make the best choices for your tastes. In addition we are in love with the old fashion drinks made by the best bartender!! This young woman really knows how to handle a bar and makes every drink with care and delicious."

  • "We made a reservation for Valentines day, and had an incredible three course special dinner with wine. Manager, Jamie and the other servers were very friendly. The food here is incredible. I had the best lamb I've ever eaten. We live in the neighborhood and come to Wildwood Kitchen on special occasions."

  • "Your wine list is limited and very selective. it would benefit from selections that are good and more moderately proiced."

  • "We've now eaten here several times, for both dinner and lunch. Put simply, it's great and I only wish there were more places like it in the area. As one would expect from the Marcel's crew, the food is consistently well executed and tastes great (really great, actually). The menu is not extensive, but between its variety and the specials, there's something for everyone (including my 12 and 16 year old). Service is efficient. The spot itself is quite nice, and the bar (including the wine list) is unusually high end for a suburban restaurant. Other restauranteurs should take a lesson from Wildwood: the place is often full, proving that the neighborhood can absolutely support high quality food!"
