The menus for dinner and weekend brunch focus on whole-animal cookery prepared with the utmost integrity. Every component has been thoughtfully nurtured by the restaurant’s executive chef, Wesley Young, from field to finish. We work closely with surrounding farms and farmers to organically raise healthy, happy animals and grow custom produce.     my partner and i were wildebeest first-timers. the food was honest, but delightfully enhanced with some surprising techniques. with so much on the menu that looked good, we left it up to the kitchen to choose our dishes. the smoked olives were a knockout as was the lamb tartare - who thought a dish featuring potato chips would rate so highly? overall, the visit felt like a bit of a treat, and i look forward to treating myself with a meal at wildebeest again.

    Read a lot of good reviews and decided to give it a try. Food was ok, nowhere close to the praise in the reviews. Asked for dishes to be staggered, 3 arrived at once :-( Quail was under cooked (fat not rendered) and had a tough pellicle from smoking - which did made the meat taste good, but made the Quail hard to eat.

    I love this place and the food was excellent. the bone marrow was so good but the proportion was too small. You have to order at least three main courses for two people. And REALLY EXPENSIVE

    This was my second time at Wildebeest, and definitely not the last. We did the omakase (chef's choice) again as well. It's a must. This is basically the best meal and craft cocktails I've had all year.

    The food was terrible. The flavours do not go together at all, we tried 4 dishes and did not enjoy any of them. Overpriced!!!Very loud music, felt like a nightclub vs a resturant with the loud music.

    What a great find! The server was great in leading us through and helping us choose from the menu. We shared a few dishes and were even treated to one on the house. The grilled asparagus with fontina mousse and crisped shallots was delicious. Be sure to check out this gem!

    This is not the first time in attendance and was a winner again...omikaze style took into account wants and allergies and the meat, meat and meat request was heeded throughout. Attentive service, a great kitchen (who earned the 6 pack we bought them) and it's a lock for the recommendation.

    Given the name and premise I expected to find a little more adventurous experience on meat. Frankly underwhelming. This city is no stranger to a good variety of meat offerings through the years in a lot of its finer restaurants. Moose, reindeer, bison, ostrich, goose, rabbit and other meats have been all been part of this city's gastronomic history. Other than the usual beef (with the variation of tongue), chicken, pork and the added treat of quail and (Peking) duck don't expect much else. The server tired us by asking so many times how the food was - during and after - each meal. Let the food speak for itself please without compelling diners to answer what you want to hear. The music was unnecessarily loud. Great location.

    This was our first visit to Wildebeest. The decor is lovely and the table for our group of 7 was perfectly arranged for group conversation. They have adopted the "tapas" style craze, which seems to be ideal for minimizing staff without timing meals. You get what you order when they are making that item in sufficient quantities to be convenient. The principal works best when the offerings are sufficiently large to encourage sharing, but that was barely the case here. The portions are extremely small for the prices, and although the items were tastefully presented and prepared, that had a definite impact on the overall impression. Best of all was the chicken...that is the "do-not-miss" item on their menu. Mirin jelly on oysters?Skip it.

    First time there and not the last. We were sitting in front of the chefs and was great to see them make the food. Great concept, good food and drinks. I was looking for a cocktail with some ingredients and they surprised me with one that was not on the menu. Everything was awesome.

    I'm from out of town, and this restaurant was recommended as one of the best new restaurants in Vancouver. Hence I was n't prepared for the fact it was in a real down and out area of the city, with 'low life' on the surrounding streets. The restaurant is trendy, and some dishes very tasty, with interesting sauces, but there was an overemphasis of trendy kale, and lentils. The MOST disappointing part of the meal was the cheese plate- three tiny wedges of cheese , literally 1/3 of an inch thick- if fact the cream cheese was transparent- The Canadian Chedder was known by us, and second rate. I'll keep looking for somewhere else, and am afraid won't recommend

    Having heard great things about this place for a while, we finally came here on a summer Tuesday night. We arrived at 7 and expected the place to be packed judging from our previous night at a nearby restaurant. However, the restaurant was nearly empty. Despite not having a lot of customers, the food came out very slowly. There was too big a gap between dishes and that interrupted our dining experience quite a bit. We were, however, most disappointed with the food quality and quantity. The three of us ordered a total of 10 items but still left the restaurant feeling hungry. We expected a restaurant with this much accolades to blow us away with the food, alas, everything was mediocre at best. Probably will never come back here again.

    My husband and I came in to celebrate our anniversary on Saturday night. We had been wanting to make the trek downtown for a while now (back in January we were going to go for my birthday but they were only serving the Dine Out menu) and I'm so glad we finally made it. The atmosphere was perfect: lively and upbeat yet chill and romantic at the same time. The food and cocktails were delicious (the bone marrow!!) and the service was super informative and friendly. Looked like everyone truly enjoyed working together to make their (and our) evening a success. We'll be back again with friends for sure!

    I don't care for the tapas style of dining where dishes come one by one, but at Wildebeast the individual dishes were all excellent so I didn't mind the style of service. Decaf was the best, and the service was informative but not intrusive. Noise level was fairly high but we were able to hear each other without shouting. On a busier night it would be a problem.

    We had an interesting experience. The food is very creative and served Family style so you can share and everyone can get a taste of the meal. We enjoyed our food and having the waiter explain the food was important. The portions are small but we were satisfied with the quantity. The quail was interesting and served medium rare which is unusual for what you would think was a poultry dish. It was served with straw inside which was set on fire and the smoking entry was served up to us. I wouldn't recommend any of the pork or lamb belly as it is fatty and very salty. I guess it is a taste preference, but the waiter was very accommodating about it. Interesting to see families with their children trying different specialties.

    I've been to Wildebeest several times for dinner and the meals have always been exceptional. However, I went to brunch for the first time there this past weekend and will stick to dinner from now on. There were 4 of us and all the dishes were oversalted, heavy and (despite being salty) bland.

    I found everything so greasy there. The pork rinds are better from a bag at the grocery store, the fried smelt was soggy, they should have cooked them longer to make them crispier. They didn't have any sort of dipping sauces of any kind. The Halibut was cold when it arrived and I was hoping the Short rib was good, but then I found out they cooked it in a Sous Vide for 48 hours which is not the smartest idea. It tasted more like corned beef and not the short rib that falls apart in your mouth. If I come back here, it will be only for the drinks, but definitely not to eat.

    All the appetizers arecserved family style. You can literally choose one of each of the aps. Absolutely outstanding. Extensive mixed drink menu and excellent choices of rye whisky. Wish I lived in Vancouver so that I may go back. Our waiter was great

    I booked a dinner for my friend's stagette party at Wildebeast. I requested the downstairs room for our party of 8. When our party arrived, there was an earlier party leaving so we waited at the bar. However, the hostess was apologetic and good about giving us an update on the wait. If you have a party over 7, you have to order off the group menu which consists of ordering 3 appetizers, 3 mains, and 3 desserts of a list of options. They will make to order in terms of numbers in the group. Ultimately, the food was amazing. Everyone in the party loved the food, especially the foie gras and duck rillettes. I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 for service bc I would have preferred to have been told upfront about the group dining menu.

    Exotic 'game' meats is on offer. Share plates made it difficult to divvy up portions. Some prices way too high such as charging $55.00 for lamb shoulder. Duck Rilletes were bland, cassoulet too. Ambience/decor/service was very good- felt like a small, trendy NYC spot. Food overall was unimpressive.

    The most important thing is the food at a place and the food certainly fits the bill, above average for an obviously hip place. The kitchen staff are clearly excellent and seemed genuinely engaged in offering quality meals, including happily bringing marrow bones as an appy instead of the marrow butter. The lamb croquettes were genuinely delicious and all the plates were brought hot and well. The service was a little rushed, and unnecessarily so, given that it was going to be busy but was 1/3 full for the entire meal...it added an unnecessarily rushed quality to an otherwise good night, with good cocktails.

    We had a group of six and opted for the chef's tasting. It was such a treat! From smoked olives to veal sweetbreads, we were tantalized. The short rib and the lamb tartare were my absolute favorites. Plus, the gut and grits cocktail - I'm still dreaming about it.

    Slow poached eggs with tapioca and roast buckwheat? Yummers! Surprising combo worked. Short ribs were to die for! They're were a bit skimpy on the smoked duck breast, was so tasty but we only got five tiny pieces on a romaine heart, guess it was mainly a veg dish, but it left us wanting more. All in all, a great place with some neat combinations of flavours.
