Diner Reviews
  • "I've been to Wildebeest several times for dinner and the meals have always been exceptional. However, I went to brunch for the first time there this past weekend and will stick to dinner from now on. There were 4 of us and all the dishes were oversalted, heavy and (despite being salty) bland."

  • "overall it was great of everything! Food, service totally meet my high expectation. Little annoying thing was; it didn't seem air circulation worked well.no air conditioning..? But as I mentioned previously , it was awesome!"

  • "The service and attention to detail was spectacular. The food was amazing, particularly theamd tartare!!! They were able to accommodate a food sensitivity with ease! We'll definitely be back!!"

  • "The food was fantastic, I highly recommend the Omekasse (the chefs pick the food for you) option!"

  • "I found everything so greasy there. The pork rinds are better from a bag at the grocery store, the fried smelt was soggy, they should have cooked them longer to make them crispier. They didn't have any sort of dipping sauces of any kind. The Halibut was cold when it arrived and I was hoping the Short rib was good, but then I found out they cooked it in a Sous Vide for 48 hours which is not the smartest idea. It tasted more like corned beef and not the short rib that falls apart in your mouth. If I come back here, it will be only for the drinks, but definitely not to eat."

  • "All the appetizers arecserved family style. You can literally choose one of each of the aps. Absolutely outstanding. Extensive mixed drink menu and excellent choices of rye whisky. Wish I lived in Vancouver so that I may go back. Our waiter was great"

  • "Probably one of the best overall dining experiences I have EVER had!! The qual is to die for! And the service is wonderful and attentive!"

  • "Salt heavy on the smelt and pork schnitzel, but everything else was outstanding!"

  • "I booked a dinner for my friend's stagette party at Wildebeast. I requested the downstairs room for our party of 8. When our party arrived, there was an earlier party leaving so we waited at the bar. However, the hostess was apologetic and good about giving us an update on the wait. If you have a party over 7, you have to order off the group menu which consists of ordering 3 appetizers, 3 mains, and 3 desserts of a list of options. They will make to order in terms of numbers in the group. Ultimately, the food was amazing. Everyone in the party loved the food, especially the foie gras and duck rillettes. I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 for service bc I would have preferred to have been told upfront about the group dining menu."

  • "Exotic 'game' meats is on offer. Share plates made it difficult to divvy up portions. Some prices way too high such as charging $55.00 for lamb shoulder. Duck Rilletes were bland, cassoulet too. Ambience/decor/service was very good- felt like a small, trendy NYC spot. Food overall was unimpressive."

  • "The most important thing is the food at a place and the food certainly fits the bill, above average for an obviously hip place. The kitchen staff are clearly excellent and seemed genuinely engaged in offering quality meals, including happily bringing marrow bones as an appy instead of the marrow butter. The lamb croquettes were genuinely delicious and all the plates were brought hot and well. The service was a little rushed, and unnecessarily so, given that it was going to be busy but was 1/3 full for the entire meal...it added an unnecessarily rushed quality to an otherwise good night, with good cocktails."

  • "We had a group of six and opted for the chef's tasting. It was such a treat! From smoked olives to veal sweetbreads, we were tantalized. The short rib and the lamb tartare were my absolute favorites. Plus, the gut and grits cocktail - I'm still dreaming about it."

  • "Slow poached eggs with tapioca and roast buckwheat? Yummers! Surprising combo worked. Short ribs were to die for! They're were a bit skimpy on the smoked duck breast, was so tasty but we only got five tiny pieces on a romaine heart, guess it was mainly a veg dish, but it left us wanting more. All in all, a great place with some neat combinations of flavours."

  • "Went out to Wildebeast last Saturday night. The space is very cool, but with the lighting being so low and the contrast between the font and menu paper, I was the only one at the table that could read the menu. We started with the oysters, which were super salty and average. Luckily, we moved onto the short ribs and the lamb later on and both were absolutely incredible. They definitely know how to do meat right there! The server was great - helping us order a good amount of food for our table (it's family style dining so you never can be sure). And the food all came out seamlessly. One plate after another. I would consider going back there, but might not be my first choice. Maybe if they change up their menus! :)"

  • "Food was delicious. Concept of family style sharing was kind of cool and unique. We had Smoked Olives and pork schnitzel for appies - both were great. Rib-eye was amazing as was the lamb for main courses. Good wine list. Local and craft beer focus lead me to try a few new things before appies. I had not heard of most of the beer which was adventurous for me. Great Bourbon selection as well for sipping after dinner."

  • "I came to this restaurant recommended by a friend and I am not disappointed. It's been a great experience with amazing courses like the Tartar of lamb or the quail. And the service is also great. I think we'll be hearing bigger things of this restaurant soon."

  • "Food, staff and drinks at Wildebeest were amazing! Would highly recommend for a fun night out."

  • "I expected a head to toe type meal enjoying something I normally would not have eaten before. We chose the option for the restaurant to choose menu. Raw trout that is not sushi grade was VERY fishy and just not good. Asparagus with quail egg was best but would rate the overall food experience sub par. Service and atmosphere was great. I am not a big eater - but I left dissatisfied which means my husband left hungry. "

  • "i had a great experience. The food was all amazing not only visually appealing but also tasted really good. The service was friendly and the staff was very accommodating. I enjoyed the wide variety of selection to choose from. Some of my friends were vegetarian and the server was able to accommodate them. "

  • "Different food options then you'll find anywhere else! Not the biggest portions but delicious none the less. My potatoes were undercooked but I was starving. I'll definitely come back here for the bottomless mimosas! "

  • "Really enjoyed a great dinner with some creativity. The smelts were very tasty (and healthy). Great duck and Cornish hen. Will return for more."

  • "This restaurant is fun and has great food and atmosphere. Their food is a bit more adventurous with something for everyone. They have the option of buying a six pack for the kitchen which is something that is nice to see as they work hard making fabulous food. We bought them 2."

  • "Walk in off the grittiness of Hastings to find yourself in a gorgeous space w high-ceilings, old exposed brick walls & industrial lighting. The service is warm, hospitable and just attentive enough. My date and I were seated at a table for two against the brick that was spacious enough for us to share the cosy banquette-a nice touch. we started w smelts and bone marrow butter with a chewy sourdough bread. Both were excellent. Our main course was a beautifully presented platter of lamb, perfectly cooked. As a newly-minted carnivore, I was happy to discover the savoury delights of lamb belly served w watermelon radish & a pistachio studded sauce. A bottle of Spanish Garnacha to accompany the food and it added up to a wonderful evening!"

  • "We were slow to be greeted, slow to get a table (even with reservations we waited 15 minutes), slow to get menus, slow to get our orders taken, and slow to get our food (they forgot an item too). The food was delicious, but expect a long wait for everything."

  • "We were extremely disappointed with Wildebeest. The meat was very fatty and overpriced. The sides were nothing special. The service was not great. We definitely won't go back."

  • "I was very impressed when I went for dinner a few months back. The food, ambiance and service were outstanding. So I was excited to try their brunch. So disappointed. My friend got two eggs and sausage. They only offered scrambled or sunny side up. They couldn't even flip the fried eggs. I had the chorizo cassoulet. A huge disappointment. There was one "poached" egg and a huge nub of bland chorizo sausage meat. The portion seemed off. The menu says poached but after asking for a medium done egg, I was informed they don't actually poach the eggs it is some other technique which leaves you with a big gelatinous ball of snot. They really need to improve their eggs. I can't say I would recommend brunch. But will be back for dinner."

  • "Everything about this experience was amazing. The servers were excited and proud of their menu, the drinks were amazing, I loved the "fitty-fitty" take on a martini... and the food was to die for. The Scotch-sprayed oysters... brilliant. I LOVED it."

  • "Food was good, but not impressive. The music and the other diners were way too loud that I had to almost scream to speak to my friend. Also, for all the rave reviews, the food ended up not being that impressive. Yes, the vegetables were foraged, but they didn't taste great or special. The smoked olives were good and unique. The duck rillette with pickeled figs and strawberries were good. The short ribs could have been better."

  • "We had a great time here for an Easter brunch. Not your typical menus so be sure to take a look at the menu if you have a picky eater with you. Table favourite were the mini donuts, the German sausage and the thrice cooked potatoes (a style if hash browns). The coffee wasn't very good and due to the table heights, I think it made it hard for servers to see if your cup was empty. The beef bevette was a little tough. But overall, we enjoyed wildebeest. We would recommend it and certainly make reservations. It was a small restaurant and fills up fast"

  • "First time at Wildebeest, the food was good, different, adventurous - not for those who want a normal meat and potatoes meal! It would have been a great evening if the service hadn't been slow, indifferent and arrogant. Treat your customers like gold and you will succeed in any business. It does not matter how good or trendy the food is, if the service is poor - I won't go back."

  • "The hostess was attentive and offered suggestions for parking. First interior impression was of a relaxed and comfortable setting with a well-thought design. Our server was personable and professional, my favourite combination. We ordered the smoked olives, the 3 beet salad and the prime beef platter. The salad was intriguing and tasty with the 15oz.beef sharing platter the grand dish it is meant to be. I've already recommended Wildebeest to gourmet friends with confidence that they'll have an experience worth tasting!"

  • "I felt that everyone in the restaurant really cared about the philosophy of the place, which is humanely raised, local product that is cooked seasonally, well and all the details matter. We brought guests from Norway and we were proud to showcase beautiful BC food by bringing them to this restaurant."
