Diner Reviews
  • "After seeing the show at the Pioneer Center in downtown Reno, we had an early (5 pm) Sunday dinner at the Wild River Grille. A singer/guitarist was performing in the outdoor patio and surprisingly for early April it was quite pleasant to sit outside and enjoy the music with some pre-dinner drinks along the river. The restaurant has a prix fixe menu themed to the shows at the Pioneer. In our case it was the "Lucy" menu to go with I Love Lucy Live on Stage. The Cuban bruschetta and fried green tomato bisque appetizers were both delicious. Our entrees were the New York steak with pork belly hash which was fantastic. Dessert was a red velvet cake, also delicious. We highly recommend it the Grille."

  • "Our first time to Wild River Grill, because it is close to the Pioneer Center and they have gift cards at Costco, so why not try it before the show. Food was good. Service was okay. We will try outdoor seating next time."

  • "I reserved a table for 5 but when I arrived I was told it was only for 4. However, I had the email confirmation to prove it. Also, the waitress was a little loopy. She kept getting things wrong. She misunderstood several requests and she did not know who ordered what. However, the food was excellent and the ambience was great. All in all it was a good night."

  • "I can see the appeal of this place during summer. Great patio by the river for outdoor dining. Indoors, everything was just ok, very average across the board from the moment we stepped in to the moment we stepped out. Nothing about the menu or wine list wowed me. Not bad, but definitely not great."

  • "Wonderful Sunday brunch along the Truckee river! They had ample outdoor seating, live music that was gentle and soothing for a lazy Sunday afternoon. My frenchie joined us and dined on a hamburger patty the chef prepared special for us. Great place!!"

  • "Beautiful day to walk along the Truckee and have lunch with a River view. I had the brie, fig and prosciutto sandwich and it was to die for!! My partner had beef stew and was sufficiently satisfied. Great vibe inside and out."

  • "Coming to Reno, we were afraid we wouldn't find any good restaurants. And this was actually GREAT! Wish we had this one at home. We would go all the time Will definitely tell everyone who is visiting Reno to go to Wild River Grille."

  • "This was our second visit to Wild River Grill. It is close to the Pioneer Center and a nice spot on the River. But the food is only fair considering the price and both times it arrived at the table cold. We will look for some alternatives on our visit to the Pioneer Center next week."

  • "Went here before a show at the Pioneer. Eaten here many times. Food is alway delicious. The problem this time was the service. They simply didn't have enough servers. Wild River has partnered with the Pioneer for a long time. They know that before a show at the Pioneer the restaurant will be packed. You'd think they'd know they need to be prepared for a full house & have extra staff on hand. We sat for a good 15 min before anyone even acknowledge us. Everything took forever to make it to our table. Our 2nd glass of wine we ordered took so long to get to the table that we had finished our meal before the wine came. Also this is the 1st time they sat us at a skinny high top table. Much too narrow to eat comfortably. Still the food is great"

  • "Overall, food excellent however service was poor. We had reservations at 6 pm; took awhile to get drink orders then food order. We ordered from special menu (in line with Pioneer theater Broadway show "Hair"). Had to ask for bill at 7:30 and told him to put desert in a to-go bag. We were scheduled for show at 8 pm. When we needed something it took several tries to get his attention."

  • "We have eaten at Wild River a number of times and have always had an outstanding meal. This last visit we sat in the river view section and were underneath the ventilation where it was quite cold. The restaurant was packed, yet they moved us to a comfortable table immediately and with apologies. Love, love the service. Absolutely everyone was friendly and accommodating on such a busy Broadway night."

  • "This was a business dinner. We had such a great experience with our server Jeremy! He made us feel right at home and coached us through the innovative menu. Everything he suggested was delicious. Will go back when in Reno."

  • "Our group had a great dining experience here. The menu was not extensive but contained some well-prepared dishes. The wine list was also simple but well-represented. Our server was very attentive and friendly. Although it was still a little early in the year for the outdoor dining area to be utilized, I can't wait to try that option next time. I would definitely recommend this establishment, especially if one is looking for for a respite from the casinos."

  • "Walking along the river one Sunday we spotted this restaraunt and put it on our to do list. Low and behold our cousin had a birthday (39th) and we decided that this would be a great place to take her. What a relief, great restaraunt, friendly and knowledgable waiter, and a great ambience. All four of us had a different dinner and all four came away very pleased. Well worth the price. Great Find. Recommend highly."

  • "My family of 4 recently ate at the Wild River Grille and had an amazing experience. The staff were kind and always attentive. We were worried that our 2 children (8 and 10) would not be able to find anything for them but the chicken strips and fries were great. We had the bruchetta and the pizza nachos for appetizers. Both were amazing with a special mention to the bruchetta. For the main course my wife and I had the New York steaks, both cooked as requested and not one piece left over at the end of the meal. All in all this was a great place for the family to go have a nice meal. Prices put this at a once in a while or special occasion platform for us."

  • "Our party of 4 enjoyed a great quality lunch. The specialty martinis were fun and tasty. The staff was super friendly and nice, but we waited for what seemed like an eternity for our drinks and food. It was worth the wait, but we were really hungry upon arrival at the restaurant. We will definitely return for another meal because the food was really, really good."

  • "Some friends and I have season tickets to the Broadway Comes to Reno series at the Pioneer Theater and always have dinner together before the 8:00 Friday curtain. We had never been to the Wild River Grille but had seen their ads for a special, three course, prix fixe dinner ($35) created and themed especially for each of the five shows so decided to try it for the Hello Dolly show. We were not disappointed and will be back! There were 3 choices for each of the first two courses and one dessert. Two of us had the Devils on Horseback (bacon-wrapped dates with blue cheese) and 2 had the crab sliders; 1 had the roasted pork shoulder, and 3 had the New York; dessert was a coconut chocolate bar. Every bite was fantastic! Service was very good."

  • "Food was just OK and service was good, but after booking a reservation on Valentines the side private room had a view of the street. Overall a nice meal but not close to worth the price."

  • "My wife and I loved our night out at Wild River! Great timely service and very polite. The environment is upscale but doesn't make "middle class" feel out of place. We will be back to this spring/summer for outdoor dining."

  • "I was pleasantly surprised by a wonderful dinner at the Wild River Grille. My wife received a rose prior to us being seated. What a nice touch. The food was prepared absolutely wonderful. The apple chip salad was very tasty but by far the filet mignon was probably one of the best I have tasted in a long time. The service was outstanding. I would highly recommend this restaurant for someone looking for a romantic spot which serves very tasty food. Thank you to the folks at the Wild River Grille for making my Valentines day for my wife and myself tremendous."

  • "I made reservations 2 weeks before Valentines day and showed up 5 minutes before my reservation. We were told that it would be a few minutes, and that we could "stand right over there". 25 min later, at least a dozen other couples, with the same reservation time as us had already been seated, and yet, we were still standing there. I went to say something, and the hostess said " I thought that you had already been seated!" even though she looked me in the eyes multiples times while walking by and seating other couples. I felt humiliated and not welcome. THANK YOU WILD RIVER GRILL FOR RUINING MY VALENTINES DAY! You guys should really make sure to get a better hostess We will never return, and we will tell everyone we know to never go there."

  • "Great food, great service, nice spot on the river."

  • "Great location down by the river and cool rustic interiors, but food just doesn't cut it for the prices. Butternut raviolis were swimming in the strawberry sauce that should be used as a drizzle to not over power the raviolis. And no garnish or anything, just 7 or so raviolis floating in strawberry sauce. And the salmon was bad as well. Sounded good reading the menu and could have been had a fresh salmon fillet be on the plate. It was bland and appeared to the be the same pre-packed frozen pucks Costco sells due to lack of taste and a perfectly square cut, which I've never seen in a restaurant serving fresh fish they filleted in house. It was more fitting to be served at the buffet across the river at Cal Neva. Never going back."

  • "We are regulars for the "Sunday's Uncorked" feature, which is small plates with wine pairing. We are always delighted with what we get. Chef is creative and pairings are always nice. I recommend this to anyone looking for a light mid-day meal paired with nice wines. Price is great too. They have a regular menu as well, so if you have a larger appetite, there is something good there for you too :) Atmosphere is always comfortable, with a nostalgic flair."

  • "Wild River Grill, it is highly recommended. Great food, attentive service. Located on the river in Reno. In warmer weather there is deck dining overlooking the Truckee River. The bar can become noisy, in a good way. The pricing is about what you would expect for a medium upscale restaurant. We well go again!"

  • "Fairly expensive , trendy with somewhat unique items to eat. Service was pretty good. We were disappointed to never receive a refill on our water or the fresh squeezed lemonade.Portions are small and not outstanding. Don't save room for dessert, mediocre at best. The waiter recommended their Truckee River Mud-well the brownie on the bottom was definitely a rocky river bed. There is not much of a view. The drink menu had a few fun drinks I may try sometime."

  • "We've dined here twice before shows at the Pioneer Theatre. The location can't be beat for theatre-goers. The first time we ate here we ordered from the lunch menu and, although I can't remember what I ordered, it was very good. This time we ordered from the dinner menu and I was disappointed with the meatloaf. Its description sounded so delicious but I found it to be overcooked (probably from sitting around) and overly salty. Definitely not anything special and I wouldn't order it again. My granddaughter enjoyed her chicken fingers and her fries were really good. However, the fruit she should have received with her dinner never arrived. All-in-all, I would recommend this restaurant for lunch but probably not for dinner."

  • "A little on the 'pricey' side considering other choices available in downtown Reno. Food good-to-very good. Was expecting more of a view of something, but none, likely due to wintertime. Seemed very 'closed up.' Might re-visit in summer when outdoor dining is available. Location not the best, but within walking distance of major casinos downtown."

  • "I met an old friend for dinner. The service was great, very attentive to us, the food was timely, and the staff was excellent. My friend had the trout and she loved it. I had the fillet mignon. The fillet was thick and tender. I ordered it medium rare and it came between medium and medium rare. Cant complain there. The sauce on the fillet was a little too salty for my taste and I had to scrape some of it off, and I couldnt eat all of the risotto cake that the fillet was resting on due to the excessive salt. I prefer a good fillet to be sauce free. The sound level was fairly low and allowed for us to have normal conversation. The atmosphere was relaxing. Overall, it was a great dining experience and I'll definitely return."

  • "Good lunch grub, friendly service in downtown Reno right on the Truckee. Had the Ruben which was great and my wife had the grilled cheese with pork belly which she said was also delicious. The only knock on the food was the soggy sweet potato fries. Would like to go back and give it a try for dinner."

  • "Slight delay in seating wasn't a problem as we had Key Lime Martini's in a nice bar area. Then were seated in the River Room to enjoy the jazz trio that was performing. Four course meal included appetizer (we had pierogi in pesto and crab louie), soup (beet borscht and lobster bisque), entrée (roasted lamb shank) and dessert (peach melba). All of the selections looked terrific -- we were wondering about the beef tartare in a jar but weren't brave enough to try it. Music added to the ambience with party favors and a countdown at midnight. Then outside to enjoy the terrific fireworks in downtown Reno from the river. Overall, a great experience and would do it again in future years."

  • "This was our second visit and it was as memorable as the first. The food selection is great, well prepared and with good presentation. We are seafood lovers and have found this to be a good place to eat. Some may consider it pricey and perhaps it is, but if you get good quality food and service it's well worth it. I would consider this a fine dining restaurant but also a good place to drop in before or after the theatre. I was impressed and will return."

  • "Steak was undercooked, but meat was of such high quality, it was excellent anyway. Drinks were pubescent, bar needs to learn to make cocktails for mature diners (skip the sugar rims on lemon drops). Bread or rolls should be served with dinner."
