A word from Wild Ginger Seattle
The food at Wild Ginger spans the Pacific Rim from China to Indonesia. We pride ourselves on offering traditional dishes from these distinctive regions and insist on house-made ingredients. Chefs make spicy chili sambals, fresh coconut milk, delicate egg noodles, and our pungent oyster sauce all from scratch. To achieve the sublime flavors of the East, there is no substitute for the time-honored customs of these rich and ancient cultures.

  • Dressed Up Thai in Downtown Seattle

Wild Ginger was recommended to us by a road warrior/foodie we trust. It's a cavernous restaurant in downtown Seattle, and I would recommend it for large groups because then you can order more and share. We shared a small portion of the BBQ Shrimp - a bit spicy and a great sauce and peanuts, we had 7-8 large shrimp, big enough to share as an appetizer or a solo dinner for one. We also had the chicken Pad Thai. I've had better Pad Thai, but this one was delicious, not greasy, probably the most elegant Pad Thai I'll ever eat. Wish we had ordered the lettuce wraps, we were surrounded by tables enjoying this dish and it looked great. We had excellent service, and even though we were early for our reservation we were seated at once.

We were immediately seated and attended. Throughout our visit, our server (Doug) checked in several times, as did others, but I an unobtrusive way (I dislike hovering or fawning servers - they were neither). Doug seemed to be sincerely interested in our enjoyment and comfort. The service was so prompt, we finished almost an hour earlier than I had planned! The food: The lamb chops were more chewing than tender, but had great flavor; the peanut sauce was overly chunky. The pot stickers were plump and flavorful. My mother kept almost all of the Mandarin chicken to herself, and she usually isn't a big fan of Asian food. This won't be a destination (I live over an hour away), but I would return when seeing a show at Benaroya.

Maybe this was once a hot spot with great food, but now it's clearly using its reputation to cash in. Huge and impersonal, a staff that clinically gets you in and out, food that looks good but tastes like airport fare.

The black pepper scallops were the best scallops we have ever tried, and the Thai noodles were fresh and tasty. The curry chicken was serviceable, but we wouldn't get it again. Our server was friendly and attentive, and the staff did a nice job of keeping plates cleared and water filled. The only real knock on this place was the ambiance, which was too dark and too loud.

The experience here is always the best. Ambiance, service, and food is excellent. If you want a noisy dining room, lousy food, and negligent service DO NOT DINE HERE!!! The hot food is hot and the cold drinks are cold. You will NOT be disappointed if you visit this restaurant. Diamond Dave

Food was wonderful, fresh and flavorful. However I get super annoyed when it takes the server 10 minutes to visit your table after being seated, I was almost at the point of walking out and it totally sets a negative tone to the entire experience. At least take our drink orders before you go out back for a smoke.

I ate at wild ginger in 1999 during my last visit to Seattle. I remembered that the food was great so I was happy to see it was thriving in a different location. The food was still great and the service was top notch. Hope it is not too long a time until I return to Seattle and visit wild ginger again.

  • A bit disappointed in the duck...

    Dined on 9/10/2014
I was excited to dine at Wild Ginger based on all the hype I'd read. However I was a bit disappointed in the duck which was supposed to be their specialty. It was very ordinary and the skin was not as crispy as I would have expected. The service was terrific as our waitress was knowledgeable and attentive. The pot stickers were good as was the curry chicken. Overall good and thus my 3 star rating.

Large restaurant with a lot of customers who all seemed to have a great time. Service was excellent and timing of courses was right on, no excessive wait and also no rushing through the meal. Loved the green papaya salad and the Wandering Sage soup. 2 Satays were cooked and presented expertly. Loved the whole experience. Great wine list.

We had a very unpleasant meal last time, but decided to give Wild Ginger another chance, because it has been so good for so long we knew it was capable of better and indeed it is. Dumplings and two different curries were both really good and the Pinot Noir by the glass, though unfamiliar, was very good too. Our waitress was pleasant, but tried too hard to talk us out of our choices, then caught herself. The place has lost its edge, a little less chips, less polished, the wait staff less eager to please and enthusiastic, less trained. Nevertheless WG remains a downtown stalwart that we will continue to visit, especially after concerts or before.

I came in with a girlfriend who has been raving about this place. I grew up with a lot of these dishes and I'm pretty stubborn to try infused dishes. I let my girlfriend order: large duck dish with extra buns, ahi tuna, squash soup, and lots of lime and coconut martinis!! I loved every bite and every finger lick. The dishes chosen, it really reminded me of my childhood. Good job!

As a trio of women over 50, I find that we can be "forgotten" when dining out. My GFs are more willing to let it pass than I. I am unafraid to remind the younglings that we old ladies tip well for good service. We appreciate appetizers, wine, entrees and dessert. our bar service made me leery but our waiter Bill was phenomenal. Knew his menu, knew a good drink when asked and never asked us how it was when our mouths were full. Been to the Wild Ginger before and the experience was so much better this time. Good job Bill. A twenty something named "Bill"? Only suspect thing about the dining experience. Ha!

The food just isn't what it used to be. The sauces for the spring rolls lacked flavor and for the price of the meals I could spend half and have a large portion at many other Asian restaurants in the city. The drinks are still good as is the service.

First of all, we had fruit flies in and around our food. I have eaten in restruants around the world and this is the first time I've encountered this. Secountly, your menue is limited and the duel pricing is irrritating. Choose one price and a quantity for each item and use that. Your liquor is overpriced even by Seattle standards. And the parking is terrible. You need to make some kind of arrrangement with a garage. We eat out at least three times a week and seriously question weather we will come back.

It's really hard to fault Wild Ginger in Seattle, so I won't try. All I'd mention is that after going there a dozen or so times over the last dozen or so years, it feels like - well, a dozen years ago. Nothing wrong there, but tastes and trends change - I wouldn't say they necessarily evolve. It's reassuring that the food and ambience are still there, solidly. I had a wonderful meal, and have never not had one. Always memorable, too. I recall hosting an event for my son there several years ago and it was great. All that said, it just feels like going there once a year for the next dozen years is about right. That doesn't take into account the Triple Door, which has Wild Ginger's great food and may have great reasons to go more often!

Waiter was a bit over bearing and checked in way too much interrupting a business conversation several times. Food is mediocre, especially for the prices that are charged. I always hear good things about Wild Ginger, but it seems way over-rated and over-priced to me. There are many better Asian food options in Seattle.

I visited Wild Ginger because I love the influence of Vietnamese spices and cooking. I ordered four of the satays, thinking they were small, appetizer sized "small plates". They were huge! Considering I had also ordered the sea bass lettuce wraps (which was really, really good...) it was more food than I really needed. Really enjoyed this restaurant.
