The Peking duck and yummy buns are an all time favorite. Our server was good and very helpful in making sure that we didn't order too much food for the 5 of us. We had a lovely evening and look forward to returning.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMMy friends and I love goingMy friends and I love going to Wild Ginger for lunch, however, I am always slightly amused (or maybe slightly annoyed), that even though I make reservations ahead of time, I often seem to get a less than favorable table. I recall one time being sat at a tiny table for two in the front window squeezed in by a very large, and very noisy party; this time we were taken to the furthest table from the reception desk, next to service tray jacks and somone's scooter (seriously). Neither my guest nor I are large women, but they actually had to adjust things so that we could get into our seats.

Since this was a group of seniors and we were eating early, the restaurant wasn't too full, but we had a few rather demanding people in our party and he was very polite and attentive to their wishes. The only downside to the dinner was that this took place during "restaurant week" which offers special pricing for a 3 course dinner. I felt that the entrees offered were somewhat uninspired considering Wild Gingers reputation for innovation. Must say, I thought the appetizers were better than the entrees this time; the black pepper scallops were plentiful, but a bit chewy and smaller than I expected. Our server was wonderful and made spectacular recommendations, so we ended up splitting several dishes and got perfect portion sizes - wild boar appetizer (tender, seared perfectly, hint of actual boar and not covered with sauce), duck - beautiful , baby bok choy and an incredible Thai mussel dish that we couldn't let go of (we were sitting by the window or I would have licked the bowl). Our server was friendly, fun and professional. She made the event special and exciting. The potstickers were the best I've had in my entire life. I would come back just for those. All the food was flavorful, not over salted (as many American-Asian restaurants can be) and overall it was a fantastic dining experience. This time we went because friends were in town visiting. We got there a little early, and within 15 minutes were seated. This time we had a booth and because of the tall backs the 5 of us felt like we could have a private conversation-- which was wonderful. Although it's family style dining, when you're with a 14 year old boy who loves Pad Thai, and a guy wild about the duck- we all ended up more ordering our own thing. After 20 years they still have every dish perfected, not a wrong note anywhere. We had the chicken pot stickers (outstanding!!!), the salmon in coconut curry sauce, wrapped in a banana leaf, steamed & grilled (sorry, forget the name but to die for!!!), the prawn satay, the duck (OMG!!! so tender! Skin so crispy!) and the sea bass (with fresh herbs and crushed peanuts - perfection!!!)and honestly, everything was absolutely delicious. The food was fantastic! We ordered the Seven Flavor Beef, Lamb Zedang, Roasted Beans and my wife ordered a tofu curry (don't recall which). The meals are served on plates and it's normal to eat family style.
The ambiance was good. On this particular night, it was packed with people mostly going to the Symphony or another downtown event. Although there are some rather secluded and very romantic tables in the restaurant, I didn't note on the reservation to request one, and we ended up at a fine table, but it was a table for four in the center of the room. The food was somewhere between Thai and Chinese and exemplifies fusion of Eastern food at its best. The server was attentive and changed out silverware as we went through the courses.
