A word from Whitman and Bloom
We are offering our guests a rustic American menu of unique dishes created to inspire sharing, while conversing over a fresh, seasonal experience that is locally sourced.

Our drink menu is equally balanced with a carefully selected wine list, artisanal cocktails and an extensive craft beer list that rotates seasonally.

The decor is inspired by an early 19th century retreat, it is an ode to James Joyce, his peers and the cafe's / bars that helped fuel their collective works. Hundreds of books and antiques are displayed throughout both the bars and dining spaces. Private tables that have the feel of European style snugs are where the world's secrets are divulged nightly. Our split level dining spaces are lined with comfortable seating and a special communal table that is complemented by a working fireplace.

  • "This is a hidden gem in a neighborhood filled mostly with run-of-the-mill sports bars. Brunch is excellent with a good menu of classic items at reasonable prices. Eggs are perfectly cooked, pancakes are fresh and delicious, and the fries are nice and crispy. The happy hour here is great as well. Beer selection is very good and the bar snack menu is delectable. Servers are very friendly and attentive. Great overall experience - highly recommended."

  • "The drinks were so good I had 4!!! The honey trap is my new favorite and with a happy hour until 8pm. That is rare. I gave service a good because our server seemed to be the only one for the whole restaurant, which I am sure is not her fault. She was great! We are going to come back here for sure!"

  • "Not a huge menu, but plenty to choose for brunch. Been here twice for brunch. Delicious & fresh. Biggest complaint that's quite bothersome - takes WAY TOO LONG for food to come out after ordering. If they could speed this up, brunch would be pretty perfect. Also would be nice if they had drink specials, but not such a big deal since many places don't. Atmosphere is very nice. Small outside back patio for tables of 2, two tables out front for 4 or 6 (tried seating 2 more people with our party of 4 at the 6 top, but was way too small & awkward for that; just poor seating by hostess for not saving 4 top for us & seating a couple at the 6 top so could at least seat 2 more there later), and then another booth for 4-6 just inside open doors."

  • "My husband and I came in to try this place for the first time, and found it welcoming and charming. There were fun cocktails to choose from , the waitress and hostess were very friendly, and the food was very good. We enjoyed the goat cheese and beet salad and also the scallops with risotto. I really liked the herbal cocktail. The lemon meringue was delish for dessert. This is a lovely place to come by with friends for drinks and appetizers. We want to try the mussels next time. Its not a dark busy bar scene but rather a very nice, airy and cheerful place to have a lovely meal. "

  • "My daughter, niece, husband and I had a wonderful brunch here for Mother's Day. The place is charming and delightful for the eye and for the stomach. The wait staff was attentive and the food delicious. Best Mimosas we've had in awhile! One of the nicest parts of our dining experience was that it was very relaxed. We didn't feel rushed in any way, and had a wonderful time! The owner is very kind and checked on each table to make sure the experience was enjoyable. Definitely will return and recommend this gem to anyone in the area. "

  • "We went for brunch, reserved for a party of three - we were taken to a round two top in a corner where three could barely sit around it. When asked for a different table that would accommodate three we were told there is nothing else - with an attitude - so much for making a reservation. The server was good, the food was fresh but fair - you really can't hide when you only have cooks and no chef in the kitchen. I could see going back for the bar which looked great, the experience more than the food however turned us off."

  • "I chose this place it at random on Opentable, and had an outstanding meal, from the friendly and efficient service, to the excellent cocktail (Whitman Spritzer - delicious and on special for all day Sunday Happy Hour), to the superb special entree, Salmon stuffed with lobster, served on risotto and with asparagus. I couldn't fault a single bite of this dish, it was delicious. Even before it came we were served tasty bread with a generous portion of hummus/garlic/olive oil to hold off the hunger pangs. The only disappointment was the burger which just wasn't all that exciting - just ok. Beyond that, dessert was wonderful too. I'll certainly be back, and will try for a Thurs or a Sun night when they have live piano in the bar downstairs."

  • "This place feels like it should be in Soho or the Meatpacking District, not Murray Hill. Very cool vibe and romantic, but at the same time a vibrant atmosphere that would be good for groups. The food was excellent - my boyfriend went nuts over the short rib special. I had the mushroom ravioli small plate, which was so rich it was all I needed."

  • "I spent Valentines dinner here with a friend who has celiac disease and another friend who's a staunch vegetarian. They were both thrilled with their selections. I had the Pot of Mussels, which did not disappoint. They had complimentary drinks for everyone since it was Valentines, and tons of balloons and atmosphere. The happy hour drink choice is excellent. The pick 5 cheese tray was great, small portions but fine enough. The Staff is very friendly and accommodating."

  • "I had read really good reviews for the restaurant, so perhaps my expectations were too high. I had the mushroom soup and the fettuccine with mushrooms. Both were fine, but neither had a really memorable flavor. The best part was the little crispy somethings on top of the mushroom soup. I wouldn't protest going back if a friend really wanted to go, but with all the restaurants out there, it is not a place I would seek out again on my own."

  • "If you get there early enough, you can have your pick of location to dine. There's dining in the front, side near the bar, and in the back on two tiers. The bar is comfortable for dining too, with a lot of room. The hostess is very friendly, and the Irish-accent gentleman as well who works with her. The servers are knowledgeable, and were also fine to run back to check on new items for gluten free guarantee. Two friends have gluten issues (one with C.D.) so it was nice that both of them loved the items they had. I also dined with a veggie-saurus who loved what he ordered. I had full non-dietary issue items, and they were very flavorful and rich. It's very dark there, so you'll need your flash app to read the menu. Drink choice is excellent."

  • "Full disclosure: We went to Whitman & Bloom because we received a complimentary gift certificate. Though nothing about this place was bad, nothing was phenomenal either. When we arrived, no one seemed super attentive, but the decor was comfortable/casual, bordering on hipster (this is a very college-age part of town after all). The dim lighting seemed romantic at first, until it was time to glance at the menu. We were the youngest people in our section--we managed by squinting under candlelight. Everyone else around us used the flashlight on their iPhones to read it--be prepared to get blinded several times while eating. The house-made pickled vegetables were absolutely delicious. The kale salad was good, but not noteworthy."

  • "The cocktail menu is terrific and the place has a very fun energy, I may go back and sit at the bar. The food was mediocre at best and incredibly overpriced for what was delivered. The gnocchi small plate was incredibly heavy; I think it may have been the kitchen's first crack at making pasta or it was a frozen pre-prepared thing, as the dough was so dense it was solid in texture. The cauliflower was cauliflower, was expecting more color as it was roasted but it was more steamed tasting than carmelized like I expected. For an entree, I had the scallop dish and the risotto was undercooked and the scallops were way way overcooked. The service was friendly, and again, it was a great "vibe", I just won't return for food."

  • "The Kips Bay/Murray Hill area is flooded with sports bars and taverns so Whiman and Bloom is a refreshing alternative and a welcomed addition to the neighborhood. The ambiance is great, the bar area is fantastic ($10 cocktails!!) and the food is worth it. I'm hoping that this restaurant sticks around!!"

  • "Met a few friends for dinner and drinks. We had great service the food was flavorful and the cocktails were inventive and tasty. I would definitely come back for dinner here again. I wish however they would consider opening for lunch. I work in the area and I know good lunch places are hard to find."

  • "Cute restaurant, great decor and different from what we have in the neighborhood, giving the area options. My friend ordered the steak which was cooked perfectly medium rare. The cabbage was interesting, pickled ... Potatoes were great and seasoned well. I had the scallops w cauliflower risotto, scalo ps Where larghe and tasterà great. Risotto was too saltuari and not creamy enough. I male risotto and it wasnt cooked enough, tastedlike regular rice. Wines: great selections and the chocolate cake was super rich- Event for a Chocolate lover like myself, it was kinda hard to finish. The lavender ice cream didn't taste like lavender but more citrus my friend tasted the lavender. If go back for drinks but not to sure about dinner."

  • "Jury is still out for me. It's brand new in my neighborhood( not even a month). Loved the decor and the service was outstanding but the food was uneven. Their mac and cheese and fennel salad were incredible but the Jerusalem artichoke salad underwhelmed and the Seared Tuna Bruschetta was way too salty (combination of tapenade and capers was too much). Mushroom soup and a burger were good but the grilled shrimp was just OK. I will definitely give them another try."

  • "I live across the street and was hoping a restaurant with a good beer selection would move into the space vacated by the previous establishment. Boy was I excited when a restaurant with good beer selection AND great food moved in. The draught list is 10+ beers deep, and I like that I can find some of my favorite local breweries (Bronx Brewery, Peekskill, and Southern Tier currently on tap). The food can be ordered individually, but I recommend sharing with your date or a group of friends. The mushroom soup is AMAZING, and I also recommend the striped bass. Happy hour is a great deal as well. For HH, you can try three of the restaurant's signature cocktails for $7 each 4-8p. I'm looking forward to Whitman and Bloom opening for brunch soon!"

  • "Live around the corner from this restaurant and was excited to see its addition to the neighborhood. Ordered several different plates, all of which were fantastic. They plates are meant for sharing so if you come with a group you can try several options. I thought portion sizes were reasonable for the price. We tried the roasted cauliflower, tomato salad, tuna bruschetta, grilled shrimp and the burger. Everything was fresh, seasonal and amazingly delicious. The server took time to explain options and give suggestions on both food and drinks. The owner walked around and talked to everyone. The personal service felt really great and definitely made me eager to want to return."

  • "The new space looks great, albeit a bit dark in the back. The menu items seem to be trying too hard. Lots of things going on on the plates. The chicken liver pate was nice, but they need to offer a smaller portion. Lamb ribs were burned and had a total of six bites on all the ribs for the larger portion. The small calamari had three pieces of squid and lots of other stuff hiding the lack of squid. Happy hour cocktails were all very sweet. For four happy hour cocktails, two small plates, and one medium plate our bill came to $90. If I'm spending $100, I want to feel satisfied! Unfortunately, I didn't and don't plan to return."
