Diner Reviews
  • "The location is great for people who office in the area, but service was incredibly slow. The food was ok, nothing spectacular, definitely not worth an extended wait. I would expect with this great location, service would be impeccable, especially given the hotel affiliation, but was disappointed. Our server also started taking desert orders while half of the group was still eating and clearing the table was slow and inconsistent."

  • "I treated my Mother-n-Law for a beautiful morning brunch! This was our first time at the White Oak Kitchen and we were very pleased with the service, the delish food and fab mimosas! We both can't stop raving about the dessert that we received to all of our friends and family. I will be returning with friends and my Mother-n-law!"

  • "The meals we had were good but nothing I would go out of my way for. Going for Easter brunch at a restaraunt in the Galleria I expected a bit more class. The place was not busy but it seemed like they took forever to serve us our entrees. The staff was not that friendly and no specialties were suggested and in a way I felt it was a bother that we were there. When we did get our food, the portion was fair but there was no wow factor with the taste or prestation. I chose a smaller place thinking it would have a more personal touch and was dissapointed that it did not. The High Light was the Bananas Foster."

  • "Lunch hour is from 2-4 versus standard restaurants from 12-2. Doesnt really benefit individulas who work in the tower and want a lunch hour menu....."

  • "The Breakfast at this place is really good. Benedict's Eggs with Salmon one of the specialties . They served Starbucks Organic Coffee with many refills, and that's an extra."

  • "The food is good the place is nice and the service can be better. In Overall a great place to eat and have drinks."

  • "The Breakfast was Fantastic. Benedict Eggs with Salmon. Good and friendly service. In overall good place at the Westin Oaks in the Galleria. The oatmeal also very good."

  • "Delicious ice cream, truly. Topped with brownies, peanuts, the usual good stuff. My anticipation grew as I perused the plate. However, I payed not enough attention to the placemat right in front of me, where I had just been handed a fork. Why? Why would you do this to me, White Oak?"

  • "We chose to go there because of the good reviews. We were definitely not disappointed! Staff was pleasant and service was excellent. This one of the few restaurants I've been to where I ask for a tonic water and lime and actually get one the first time around (most places send me a club soda). The pricing was moderate, a nice touch. But the food... I ordered a falafel salad, not really knowing what to expect. It was delicious. But the kicker was my wife's meal (it is rare for her to like restaurant food). She ordered wok seared marinated beef with rice and she absolutely loved it! Wouldn't share any of it with me! Will definitely go back when I am in Houston again."

  • "The food was good, but not excellent. The ambiance was loud and busy, but it is in a very busy mall, so that may be to be expected. And the service was mediocre. The surprise was the bill...for only 6 people for breakfast, the cost was $200! No alcohol or anything...and they added in the tip for a table with only six. I think I know why."

  • "We were in a smaller room which was nice but the doors were left wide open & there was ton of noise coming from a large group of about 15 - 18 people seated right outside the doors. Was hard to carry on a conversation at our table..."

  • "Is a nice informal place to have breakfast, lunch or dinner in your hotel. Westin Oaks with friendly service and good food. You have a big window so you can see people walking in the galeria."

  • "The food was very good. And the décor is beautiful. But we went on Valentine's Day and they couldn't handle the amount of customers. Slow service is a pet peeve for me. The prices weren't horrid but they were high enough that I expected better service, even on a holiday. $10 for a glass of house wine. $3.75 for a soda. $17 for a hamburger. $47 for a steak. This restaurant is in the Galleria Mall. The only way I would go again would be if I was already in the mall. I wouldn't seek the restaurant out."

  • "We had an 8:15pm reservation for 2, we were not seated until 8:50pm, after we repeatedly saw people after us being seated. Once seated the waiter offered us the vegetarian option of the menu which only included a "tofu salad". Luckily the hostess agreed to let us order from the main menu and I was able to order a couple of sides. Not sure if we caught them on an off night or what but was not impressed :("

  • "The food and service was superb at the White Oak Restaurant. However, after making a pre-registered reservation; numerous dining couples that arrived on time were kindly asked to wait at the bar for 30 min until a table becomes available."

  • "I've been here before with my mom and the brunch was to die for. Just recently went back with a friend for a valentine's day dinner and the website hadn't made it clear that the only option was their 78$ dinner for two. We were limited in our options and forced to spend more on stuff we probably wouldn't have gotten (ie. dessert, appatizer). Good food but was definitely a little peeved. I wasn't planning on spending that much and the portions weren't very big so just keep that in mind!"

  • "Its been a while since I have been treated so well in a restaurant. The food, the service , the place, the people were all outstanding. I pray that they can keep this quality of dining experience no matter how crowded or busy they get. They have certainly hired the right people to run this place."

  • "Very nice for Christmas. They had a special 3 course meal, however we ordered from the standard menu since one course is enough food for us."

  • "The place was busy, the food was good, and the service was about what i expect on Christmas Day. I am just thankful they were working."

  • "Many of the restaurants inside the Galleria benefit from their location but their food doesn't make the grade. White Oak is a great option for a good meal at a reasonable price. Their lunch menu has a variety of options so even the pickiest eater should be able to find something to satisfy. Based on our experience, I will definitely come back!"

  • "I brought a group of 15 in for my birthday. It was a last minute reservation and it was completely awesome! I knew I picked a good place when just calling to confirm my reservation the lady on the phone was so energetic and caring it really made me happy! Service was great and when there was an error with the food it was taken care of immediately and was apologized for. I worked in a restaurant for 5 years and know errors happen but the way they handled it was amazing considering many restaurants this day ignore problems. Definitely made my birthday awesome and will come back for sure!!"

  • "The calamari was cooked to perfection and the aoili was extremely complimentary. The buffalo sauce was spicy but not unbearably so. The Spanish steak was wonderful (maybe a touch more chimichurri was needed?). Roasted root veggies sublime. The s'mores bread pudding was pretty darn close to being the best I've ever had (and this Southern girl's had her fair share)."

  • "We came in from out of town at Thanksgiving with no idea where to have dinner. Lucky for us we chose White Oak! Food, service and atmosphere was excellent."

  • "The food and service were perfect. For a "mall" restaurant, they were far above my expectations in terms of both service and the quality of food."

  • "Restaurant was virtually empty on Friday night but didn't have: 1. an ingredient for one of the cocktails we wanted. 2. The mashed potatoes we ordered. 3. Wings for their chicken meal. Worst of all, they sold us 2 orders of the chicken meal that promised 2 pieces but delivered just one piece without explanation. When we questioned them about it they acted as if it were no big deal to give you half of what you paid for. Never had a restaurant so unprepared to do business. Won't be returning."

  • "This came up on OpenTable as a good choice, but I wasn't expecting to have poor valet service, then have to ascend an escalator and search for the restaurant down hallways with inadequate signs. Turns out, it's in a hallway leading to the Galleria Mall and its front is on the mall itself. I could see it as a stop for lunch or brunch if you're shopping as the food is good, but it's nothing special and certainly not worth going out of your way if you're not already in the Galleria. People watching would be good if you're seated next to the windows, I imagine."

  • "After such rave reviews couldn't believe how poor the food was.ordered the stir fry.it came drowning in oil, with very little meat and shrimp, mostly rice"

  • "Visited on a Tuesday evening. Only a couple tables occupied, so service was great. (maybe great all the time) Very friendly hostess & waiter. Nice cocktail & wine list. Buddy and I shared the hummus plate (tasty!), crab cakes (delicious!), and grilled vegetables (very good). Overall a nice place to dine, especially if the Galleria is jam packed. Great people watching."

  • "Talked my boyfriend into finally trying White Oak. For me, this was new because I've never gone to White Oak for breakfast. I got the bacon waffle with wings; he got the French toast. I thought my waffle was pretty friggin' awesome! The bacon was flavorful throughout. I would have liked a small cup of fruit on the side though. I made up for this by ordering the rum punch. Yum. I would definitely reorder that... and the waffle. My boyfriend equally enjoyed his meal so I suppose this was win win for everyone."

  • "This place is a pleasant surprise located in the galleria. My wife and I went in for the Houston restaurant week menu. Everything was fantastic. It appears to be an Asian fusion place with some Cajun influence. The Japanese calamari appetizer was great- crisp with just the right amount of chewy. I had the beef and shrimp stir fry. Again, very nice and bursting with flavor. The salted caramel brownie sundae was almost too big to finish, with peanuts and caramel pop corn adding the perfect amount of crunch. We will definitely be back!"

  • "Six of us went for Restaurant Weeks. We were warmly welcomed. The food was eclectic and delicious. Service declined slightly as the restaurant started filling up around 9 p.m. The restaurant is in the Galleria and once the stores closed mall denizens descended on the White Oak Kitchen. We would definitely go back except the parking is impossible if you are not familiar with the Galleria."

  • "The restaurant is located in the Galleria near the ice skating rink. Parking is difficult. One of the staff advised that valet is validated. It would have been helpful to know that at the time the reservation was booked. The table had vegetable potstickers and fried zucchini as an appetizer and both were good. For our main lunch course we had a chicken salad, fish tacos and buffalo burger. Again, the food was good (not great). This restaurant is ideal for a decent lunch while out shopping. We participate in Restaurant Week each year and always try different restaurants, usually high end that we wouldn’t normally frequent. So, unfortunately the White Oak was a disappointment in that regard."
