Diner Reviews
  • "I enjoyed my experience at the Whisper Resturant and Lounge. Had apps, drinks and dinner. Truffle fries were tasty, the cocktail I had was great and had the skirt steak for dinner which was also yummy. Skimpy on cocktail and dessert choices. Also self-parking is a nightmare at The Grove and valet was $12 plus tip. These factors are what would make me think twice about returning. Great experience otherwise."

  • "We have been to The Whisper Restaurant and Lounge several times before and after the remodel. We love it for a special dinner when you want a place off the beaten path at the very lively Grove. The atmosphere is intimate and easy to talk even with an older person who is hard of hearing. The service has always been excellent and the server remembered us even from several months ago. The menu is interesting and different, but not so esoteric that it is hard to find something that you really want to order. We really love it!"

  • "I really enjoyed the restaurant and the experience with my girlfriend for her birthday. It was a really nice enjoyable place and the ambiance and food was terrific. Loved the Mac & Cheese!!!"

  • "Food was good but the staff was non existent. The bartender had to run around by himself to help tables and make drinks. Then when his help arrived after our meal, she was no help at all. She seemed untrained and lacked custermer service skills. I'm hoping this was just a bad weekend day."

  • "I wasn't sure what to expect, though I'd heard good things. I'm admittedly a food snob & thought 1) it's in the Grove 2) it's got "lounge" in the name - how good could it be? It was GREAT! I was really impressed. Both food and service were excellent. Fresh, clean flavors - well executed & presented. Jon (the GM) was super friendly & suggested a few wines to pare with our courses including a Gewurztraminer (from Italy). Typically I find those too sweet for most courses, but it pared beautifully with both a Peach Salad as well as with my Alaskan Halibut. My wife had the Flat Iron steak, which was perfectly prepared & the fries were awesome. We unfortunately didn't save room for dessert, so we'll have to check those out next time."

  • "I had not been to Whisper before and was pleasantly syprosed. While the table service was a bit slow, the food was excellent and the maitre'd and servers were very polite and friendly."

  • "The wine was very overpriced. The food had beautiful presentation, but average flavor. The service was very good, however. I would not recommend the restaurant because the quality of the food was a mismatch for the prices. We would not come back."

  • "Two reasons I would not recommend this place to a friend: 1) Our waiter did not know the promotional (Great Gatsby) drinks advertised on their site (the reason my friend and I came to this place), and when we asked to see a list of them, he walked over the bartender, who gave him a run down of each one, then he came back to our table and basically shrugged off trying to remember any of the details. The drink I ordered off their menu, the Fountatin was horrible - tasted like water and vodka. 2) They used what tasted like -- and had texture of -- processed/microwaved chicken for their Jidori Chicken Cutlet. The arugula and dressing were good, but even the breading, which usually masks even fast food, didn't cover up the processed taste."

  • "The place is good for romantic dining but a bit noisy. The main entree was served after 30 minutes. And our payment change was given after we reminded our server. He forgot to check our cash payment supposed to be with change. We had a great time. We like the food served but we were expecting a bigger serving size specially for dinner."

  • "Great drinks, food was pretty good as well. The mushroom flatbread was great- as well as the flatiron steak and the mac and cheese was amazing. Service wasn't the best, we were brought soup without a spoon and our waiter was busy for around 10 mins or so before he noticed. Also, we were missing some plates as he brought out our order, which he didnt notice- but no big deal, he handled it all and was very attentive after that."

  • "We had a dinner for three at 6:00 on a Monday evening, March 18. The Whisper is tucked away at the end of one of The Grove's side paths. My wife and I have lunched there twice before and enjoyed our lunches. Here was our first time for dinner with a friend. Everything was very good, food and service. I say that it would make a great secret hideaway dinner venue, as it is a bit off the beaten path of the very busy Grove center, and the ambience is very romantic (if you are in the mood). The manager also was so nice to provide a free voucher for free Grove valet parking."

  • "We always assumed this was just a bar. How wrong we were! There is some serious cooking going on here - creative combinations of thoughtfully curated ingredients, perfectly executed. I'm trying to remember last time we had a dinner like this, where with each course we just kept saying "wow, this is so good!". For example: My Scottish salmon was perfectly cooked. Crosshatched grill marks on the outside but still moist and tender inside, and served covered in marvelous locally-foraged mushrooms, with soba in a light ginger-sesame broth. The broth was a subtle earthy complement, just a hint of ginger perfume without overpowering."

  • "We have been frequenting The Whisper Lounge for a few years, and are glad it has remained such a hidden gem. We tend to pop-in on week nights after work, and enjoy a relaxing, quiet dinner and drinks. The atmosphere is perfect for 2 or small groups, as it is not too large of a venue, nor loud, and the service is always steady. The menu has changed recently, and we find it is actually better than before. Great bar and outdoor eating area along the Grove's back-alley."

  • "Came here for Valentine's Day with a last minute reservation via Open Table. It was not too busy which was nice. There was a prix fixe menu that night with complimentary champagne. I was not very hungry that day and was afraid that I'd be too full to have dessert. Fortunately, the portions were sized just right so I was able to enjoy all the selections. This is a great spot to go if you want to avoid crowds. Also, they have a bar with a TV or two. I might check out the bar next time and just order some appetizers."

  • "I had an amazing time at the Whisper Lounge! I made a special request for a table, and they had it noted on my reservation at check in. The service was amazing, as was the food, and the ambiance was fantastic for either a business lunch, lunch with girlsfriends or a romantic dinner. I could not recommend it more, and look forward to going back really soon!"

  • "My wife and I were having dinner with a couple from the Bay Area whom we had not seen for 30 years. We decided to eat at The Grove and, after reading about each of the restaurants there, decided on Whispers. We conveyed to them the purpose of our dinner and, when we arrived, the hostess acknowledged the message. We arrived on time for our 7 PM Saturday night reservation, and even though we stayed and talked until 11 PM, the management at the restaurant never put any pressure on us to vacate our table. We were pleased with the food and wine and my wife was particularly excited about the apple dessert. Thank you to Whispers for facilitating a great evening for all of us."

  • "Overall, it was ok. The food was pretty good though nothing really jumped out as amazing. Unfortunately the food was overshadowed by the service. We waited for 15 minutes after being seated without a server coming by so we had to ask the person filling our water glasses if she could send over our waitress. When she came by, she didn't even offer a hello, welcome or anything of the sort. She opened with "Are you ready?" We said we were still looking and my wife started to order a glass of wine but the waitress just walked away. Throughout the dinner, we barely saw the waitress and she acted like we were bothering her. It was too bad because the ambiance was nice and the food was ok but we won't be returning."

  • "Reservation (although confirmed more than once) was wrong at the restaurant. Restaurant staff blamed Internet/Open Table. Staff unwilling to fix problem even when shown confirmation e-mail. Waited nearly an hour for a good table. Bartender was excellent. Wait staff was mediocre at best. We had to ask for bread while watching our waiter fall over himself for the group at the next table, bringing them dishes they had not even ordered. I understand some diners may be more important than others, but to be treated so shabbily the entire time (except by the bartender) was a little hard to take. We will not return."

  • "The ambiance of the restaurant was somewhat romantic. A lot of small tables with dim lights. The food was excellent, ordered the tuna tar tar and mushroom and truffle flatbread for an appetizer and the butternut squash ravioli and the salmon plate for the entrees. Tasty food. Service could have been better."

  • "Love the ambiance, but the service was not so great. I know it was a bit rainy outside and the restaurant was slower than usual, but that doesn't mean service should be sacrificed. We waited forever before someone showed up to greet us and take an order, and like I said they weren't even busy. Well let me clarify, I had to get up and wait for a few minutes at the hostess stand before an employee acknowledged me so I could tell them that we needed service. Even though the night ended fairly well after we did get service, it still just left a bad taste in my mouth. Don't think I'll be back anytime soon."

  • "First time here, read some good reviews in search for something new. The ambiance was very nice, white linen tables, velvet split booths, outdoor lounge with ample seating, small bar, staff was friendly. The menu selection is limited, only about 8 entrees (mostly meat) with 2 fish dishes, not a good place for vegetarians, nothing organic on the menu. Our waiter was kind, but slow for the initial greet, didn't offer bread till we asked for it, other tables were getting bread shortly after being seated. No management staff present, it's always nice to see management interact with their guests to ensure they are receiving a great dinning experience. May next time, I would return to give it another try but this place could kick service up."

  • "It isn't in my neighborhood, but I wish it was! It's beautiful, comfortable and the service is great. I love the menu - especially the mac & cheese and the best calamari I've ever had. Check it out!"

  • "Superb food - I believe the best Risotto I ever had. Mr friend (who eats like a bird) had a nice filet of salmon over white beans and cleaned her plate - she loved it! Very very good. They were in the midst of re-doing their wine list so they did not have my 1st choice in wine but still he offered something very good. No complaints!"

  • "We always come here when we plan on watching a movie after dinner. The food is very good, friendly and on the ball waitress/waiters and a maitre d'who goes out of his way to make you feel welcomed. If you plan to catch a movie after dinner or just drinks then this is a very convenient & smart option."

  • "I loved the indoor/outdoor experience. My friend and I started out on the patio lounge area for specialty drinks and a delicious hummus/feta/olive/ciabatta bread plate, and then moved inside for dinner. The drinks were fantastic (pomegranete and The Cure martini's) and the food was good, but nothing super special. I had the ceasar salad with grilled chicken and my friend had the Australian lamb Burger, which she said was okay but not a necessity. It's not super fancy but it's a nicer place- some people on the patio were wearing nicer jeans while others were a little more dressed up. Casual atmosphere with very nice service, but not too much."
