  • "The concepts were generally fine, but the execution just wasn't there. The waitstaff was amiable enough and professional, but slow to make it to our table. The flavor profile on the appetizer was good, but there were two toothpick shards hidden amongst the diced tomatoes (fairly dangerous in low light). Bread plates were not changed, making it difficult to eat the particular appetizers that we ordered. The scallops would have been fine, but were way too salty (the salt overwhelmed the corn puree). No complaints about the dessert, the berry pudding was excellent, but the coffee was cold. Maybe we caught them on a bad night, and I would definitely overlook the problems at a less expensive restaurant. But we won't be returning anytime soon."

  • "Every time I've been in, I've found something new that keeps me coming back again. Recently I tried the mussels, the waitress described the sauce as "so good you could drink it straight" and she was right! If you like to try new drinks, they have a good variety of signature cocktails to choose from. I get "London's Burning" with tequila rather than gin, it's spicy, but delicious! Go to WNL for good food, good drinks and to enjoy an evening on their patio! Only problem is the price, drinks, apps & entree can run up the bill... But every time I leave I'm not disappointed, instead I'm talking about what I'm going to try when I come back!"

  • "We had a GREAT dinner at Whisknladle Sunday evening! Everything was delicious! Try the bone marrow & cheese with greens & peaches! Both soooo yummy! The homemade pasta entree was fabulous; the steak terrific and the pork chop soooooo great! Its been quite a while since we had been to Whisknladle but we will certainly return much more often now! Great waitress too! Very knowledgeable and friendly. Definitely a place to put on your radar if you are a foodie!"

  • "What appeared to be an upscale restaurant with a unique menu turned out to be a high end Chucky Cheese with an eclectic collection of simply odd tasting food and drink items. Everything served looked amazing but not even the waiters suggestions of a bone marrow appetizer for two or the scallops entree passed as good. Just as the unique description of each of the 7 menu items we ordered turned out to be odd, so did the restaurant itself. The place was filled with children scurrying about perhaps drawn by the hamburger we didn't order but described by the waiter as amazing. Overall for a dinner for two at $200 the food and drink should be more than good looking and the eatery itself shouldn't confuse fine dining with children's offerings."

  • "I've been here a couple of times and have had better meals so I hope that this was just a one off experience. They change their menu every day and the amount of choices was very limited yesterday. The gazpacho was bland and the flatbread was weighed down with heavy toppings like sausage. The restaurant was half fill yet it took over 20 minutes to get our food. So I'm not rushing back anytime soon but would be willing to go back as long as I could see the menu beforehand."

  • "This spot was super. The food was outstanding. Everything was done perfectly, and inventively! The classic dishes were done to a T. The bone marrow was perfect, the gazpacho was inventive, the tagliatelle boars sausage was amazingly flavorful and well balanced. The cocktails were superb, and the wine was well ranged and all tasty selections. The service was equally matched. She was present and chatty the right amount, and read all of her tables well. Overall this dining experience was perfect! Everyone should put this on the top lost of restaurants to try!"

  • "We were visiting La Jolla on vacation and decided to try Whisknladle. This was our first time dining here and we absolutely loved it! We shared the cutting board and summer salad for appetizers and they were wonderful. I ordered the scallops as my main course and I can honestly say they might have been the best I've ever had! My husband and son's entrees (roast chicken and ahi tuna) were equally remarkable! The service was fantastic--extremely friendly. It made for a very memorable first evening of vacation! We live in New York City and have eaten in some of the best restaurants it has to offer and Whisknladle was right up there! Highly recommend...."

Everybody there is genuinely excited to share their love for food, we've never had a bad dish or a bad experience.   • "This is a very pretty restaurant with some of the most fantastic, attentive service we've experienced. All of the ingredients are extremely fresh and very high quality. They just don't "come together" as they should. A watercress/peach/balsalmic salad that should be bursting with flavor is almost tasteless. A beautiful pork chop is so salty that you can barely eat it. A pasta ragu that lacks any "zip" and is buried in Parmesan, making it just so-so and not outstanding. I have not attended culinary school, but if I can determine what each dish is lacking, then the chef should be able to as well. We really wanted this place to be as good as it looks, but it doesn't quite hit the mark."

Staff was super friendly making for a warm environment. My sweet tooth enticed me to have dessert on a full stomach and the chocolate olive oil cake with cherries was amazing! Boysenberry ice cream was also damn good!"

I enjoyed an excellent cocktail. bne marrow appetizer with parsly, chives, and onions. Main courses were a pork chop scallopini with anchovies, capers. Spouse enjoyed Mary's half-chicken with polenta(excellent and roasted beans. My vegetable was well prepared. Desert was like a chocolate mouse; but was somewhat altered for grandaughter. We are normally skeptical of a chain; but this passed test."

  • "We have enjoyed this restaurant several times in the past. But this visit, with a group of 6 was a. If disappointment. Several dishes (tagliatelle, scallops, soup) were over salted, and two other vegetable dishes were so heavily spiced with Rosemary and cumin that the vegetable flavor was non existent. We were celebrating 2 birthdays, and although I made a request for 2 birthday desserts, only 1 arrived. The heater above our table was non functional on a cool evening, which was uncomfortable, and none of the wait staff followed up or seemed concerned about our comfort. We expected good food and good service and received neither."

  • "We ate here in 2012 and had a wonderful experience. The food and service were amazing. We returned this past weekend (June 2014) and could not have had a more different experience. The waitress was wholly inattentive. The food was under-cooked and poorly seasoned. And when one of the three people covering for our waitress asked if we wanted to box up our food (which we barely touched and couldn't find anyone to talk to about having it returned) and we said "not worth it", he simply smiled and took the food from the table without asking if there was any way to fix it. We will not return and would not recommend eating here."

  • "We loved the atmosphere and restaurant, however the food was a bit too natural. It seems that the stranger and least appetizing food combinations make it to the more notable "farm to table" restaurant. A bit more spice/flavor and a bit more meat choices would help out. Maybe it's just me, from Texas, but it was hard to pick a suitable dinner, and once delivered, I only reasonably liked the steak. The rest of our choices really weren't that appetizing. It is also not inexpensive at $200 for four."
