  • "Rojilio was wonderful. He made my entire meal a welcome event. I hope to return soon and sit in his area."

  • "We went for the Sunday brunch with an elderly grandmother. The seating and staffing were fine. The food was good but nothing stands out particularly. if there was a complaint it regards the awkward setup of the brunch stations and tables where the flow of people is difficult and crowded at points in doorways and transition areas. The view is great as always."

  • "Shangahi Red's Sunday brunch has much to offer but much to improve (or reinstate) as well. The restaurant offers a great variety of foods for all palates and those customers with food restrictions. However, the interior, the food, and the service, all seem to have been hit by the unavoidable curse that is time: conformity with fame. The decor can be "old fashioned" or "retro" and keep its appeal, yet the place looks neglected. The service is irregular: some waiters and chefs are very attentive, while others may ignore you or ask to do it yourself. Finally, the food tastes like a great chef's recipee passed down to youngers chefs, but has lost constancy and fidelity to its intended form (i.e. coffee, roast beef, eggs dishes, etc.)"

  • "In the center dining room, the one closest to the water, it was unacceptably noisy. You really should do something there in the way of noise abatement."

  • "Food was delicious and the setting was perfect we were impressed. Only down side was wife ordereda beefeaters gin and tonic bill showed saphire bombay gin at $11.00 a drink. Rather steep for a gin & tonic"

  • "On 8/26/2012, my wife and I went there for our 22nd anniversary. After being seated at a table we we requested to a move to another table. There were a number of unused tables available. Immediately, after moving my wife discovered that she had left her anniversary card and new bracelet(still in the gift box) on the first table. I went back to get them, but they were gone that quickly. We reported it to the our waiter. He checked around and found nothing. He did not seem that serious, because we noticed him across the way appearing to have casual chats with others, and then taking an inordinate amount of time getting back to us. We talked to the manager, but it did no good. We believe a staff member stole her anniversary gift and card."

  • "This is an interesting restaurant with a great setting. The staff and service was very good, as was the food in all four courses that we ordered. The view of Marina del Rey Harbor was excellent and the overall experience was very pleasing."

  • "Favorite spot for lunch, brunch, dinner and/or special events: Shanghai Reds is hard to beat... a little pricey, but definitely one of our family's favorites for meeting friends & for hosting events (we've held many there), hosts always welcoming, good service, accommodating special requests, great ambiance, easy parking. Almost hate to recommend it because we book fairly often, and kinda hate to "fill up" their calendar... Love it!!"

  • "The view is great but too noise for the business diner. But host is very friendly and service is good."

  • "Drove 2 hours from San Diego to find noisy kids running all over the place, and basically a $40 omelete bar where they soak the veggies in oil to keep them from sticking to the pan. Soggy, meatless crab legs, barren sushi bar, the roast was gone at 1pm and the buffet closes at 3. No other meat was available. The place settings resemble a cafeteria and we had to wait 25 minutes after our reservation time to be seated. Go to a casino (or a Sizzler) and get a much better meal at a fraction of the price."

  • "The view was amazing, but our server was overworked and therefore we received subpar service."

  • "All I can say was that the food was terrific!!! The waiter tried his best but the servers was absolute slow. My girlfriend and I was celebrating both of our birthdays and she choose an inside booth over looking the harbor. We were the only ones inside all other customers were outside, and the restaurant made us feel like we weren't there, like outsiders or we weren't good enough for them."

  • "My indoor dining service was outstanding, previous time. Outdoors just fair. The service provider either was not having a good day or was overwhelmed with his assignment."

  • "this was one of the worst experiences I've had at a restaurant in quite a while. I took several of my friends and family there to treat them to dinner and it was a disaster. The server started out ok then we never saw him again. I had to leave the table to go find him twice. I actually sent one dish back, I couldn't tell you the last time I had to do that. The food was aweful and I can't believe they are still in business. Needless to say we won't be going back."

  • "The Brunch was something I wouldn't expect to pay $36.00 for.The waiter service was just service, no personality and he poured champagne over top and onto the table more than once. Coffee took 6-10 minutes to arrive once ordered. We arrived at our 11am reservation time and were seated in a pleasant viewing area so we could see the waterfront. The first stop was the waffle/omlette station w/12 people and one cook who only greeted us with "next in line" Waffles made in 1st round were burnt and 2nd round chewy.Fresh strawberries were at least 2-3 days old and the king crab was overly salty and mushy. The chocolate fountain was a mess and mini churros there were so stale no amount of choc could compensate. Don't bother. IHop instead take coupon"

  • "My family met here to celebrate my birthday. We were not greeted at the reception area. We asked a passer by who stated that it was not his area. Service was terrible. We had to ask for the menus. I guess they assumed we would find the buffet on our own and not want anything off of their menu. I was waiting for dessert so that we could blow out candles....however we were given the bill and never shown dessert tray. Other tables were offered the dessert tray. I was sad. It appears that they are catering to a buffet crowd....not a lot of personalized service. We enjoyed the libations and the view. That's about it. I would not go back or recommend to anyone I like. Poor management."

  • "The food was horrible, The steak was hard with no flavor appetizer tasted like they were frozen from costco's . I ordered clam bisque it tasted like flour with salt so I asked for clam chowder I was not impressed I have tasted better from a can. The bus boy came by and I asked for Bread and Butter, he finally brought it when we were eating dessert and of course I said we don't want it anymore. Our Waiter was Great Celestino he had a great attitude and was very busy coming back and forth asking if we needed anything. The best thing was the view of the Ocean"

  • "The overall experience was great! The staff was very attentive to my wife's birthday, treated her special with songs and candles in the desert. We ate outdoors in the patio area for the atmosphere. While the sun was still up they provided umbrellas over the tables and after sunset, set up heaters and firepits to ward off the evening chill. Be prepared to defend your food from marauding seagulls if you choose eat outside as we had. There was one that was particularly bold."

  • "I've gone to Brunch at Shanghai Reds for over 10 years...and have to say -- the food isn't what it used to be. The view is beautiful....and great to go for a drink, but I don't recommend brunch. The food has gotten worst each year and definitely not worth the heafty $36/pp price tag. At least not for the quality of food they offer."

  • "Very good place to have brunch with the excellent scenery. Waffles and omelette were the best ones I have on this side of town. Perfect place to eat during the day on weekends. The outdoor seating made it all perfect-eating and taking a good view of the marina and ocean. Can't wait to show this to my other friends. Service overall was excellent the staff was always on top every time they made their walks."

  • "I enjoyed Shanghai Red Saturday Brunch. It’s so nice to have a location that offers Brunch on a Saturday. I will return for Brunch."

  • "Every item was prepared in a first-rate way, and the service was consistently attentive. Nice location at the marina. A number of unique menu items, both food and beverage, some of which work better than others. Like many restaurants in the $$$ category, the menu is value-engineered into a fairly narrow price range-- larger portions of less expensive ingredients, etc. For a group (there were several of us) this is a strength, though a hard-core foodie might consider it a weakness."

  • "I go here often for brunch, because it's close. It's not as good as it used to be about 4 years ago & the service isn't either. Cool place to go as long as you're not looking for anything special."

  • "We bring friends to Shanghai Red's often for the ambiance, view, and great food, and host our Christmas party here every year. Our employees do not want to go anywhere else. The atmosphere is very inviting with a wonderful koi pond, fireplace in the bar, and the fun marina water view. The service has always been great, and parking has never been a problem."

  • "The restaurant was pretty and the food was good. However, some waiters were so rude and ingore the customer's request. I asked to bring a new fork, but had to wait very long time because they forgot or ignored. They were talking and I contacted the eyes with the waiter, so I raised my hand. But he ignored eventhough he saw me. I had to ask different waitress, and she brought it finally. I lost my appetite after that. It was so terrible experience."

  • "This was my second visit and the first visit was more memorable. The view and location is what sets the spot off but the food temperature was disappointing. The belgian waffles and made-to-order omelettes were the only items that were hot. Everything else was luke warm. That took away from the taste of the food. This is a very nice restaurant and just to sit outside and enjoy the boats on the water is enough to go. The constant filling of your champagne glass is also a plus. But as for the food, I would pass."

  • "Great Saturday Brunch! Arrived at 11am and did not want to leave! Ended up leaving at 1:30pm. If you sit outside on the patio, the only thing to be watchful of are the prowess seagulls! If you leave your seat with food on your table, they WILL swoop in and eat your food! (No joke) Other than that, this is a great place to enjoy Brunch with friends and family."
