The What If... of Hershey, is located in the sweetest place on earth, Hershey, Pennsylvania. Make your way down the warmly lit steps to our relaxed menu at the bar, and begin with our famous house infused martini made with fresh squeezed juice. Our eclectic menu is famous for our bountiful crab martini or our collection of beef or seafood sliders. A full service menu is offered in the dining room with an extensive wine list, while you can choose from signature dishes, like pan-seared scallops, and fresh calamari, or our chicken saltimbocca and hand cut filets.

  • "We went here for my birthday celebration. The waitress seated us at the wrong table. ( the rest of our party was already seated at a table beside us.) Other than that everything was good. The food and drinks were good. Ambiance was nice except for a table of loud people that soon left. Cheese plate was large and good price. The filet chesapeake was amazing. Will be going back again!"

Our server brought each course separately, waiting until we finished the served course before bringing the next one. We were allowed to relax and enjoy our evening. We never felt rushed to get done and leave. We will definitely be returning to What If in the near future!"

  • "We've been here before and it's always been a mixed bag. We wanted to go out for dinner Saturday but every place except THE WHAT IF CAFE was booked. Why not try it again. This place uses aioli sauce on too many things. I say this because it is flat out bland. Tasteless. My Mediterranean pasta dish said with a light aioli sauce. Heavy oil. :( My husband ordered veal piccata. His comment as also tasteless. This places decor is just okay. Everything was clean but is so so tired. The hairs of faux leather (no problem for me) we're cracking. It's trying to be a romantic place but this is impossible because it's in the basement of a Howard Johnson's which serves many,many tourist fir the amusement park."

  • "Researched this restaraunt online for fine dining options for a business dinner during a conference in Hershey. When we pulled up and it was part of the Howard Johnson I was shocked. It didn't help that upon entering you were immediately greeted by the "musty hotel smell". Fortunately our client rescheduled for another time!"

  • "I found this restaurant in a Yelp Search and the menu looked fantastic. And it really was. We got the Black Bean Margarita to start and it was really good. Our 2 pasta entrees were fantastic. One of my daughters ordered the Lobster Mac n Cheese special appetizer as her meal and it was amazing. It was pretty big and plenty of food for her to eat. I did not love the dressing on the Caesar salad as it had a mustard flavor and the yogurt dill house dressing just tasted like plain yogurt to me. But overall, we had a great meal and our server was excellent!"

  • "Qe are not from the area so we figured we would give it a try.We got there & were seated right away. Our waitress came over & took our drink orders. When we got them my drink was so strong I could barely drink it. The table we sat at was very uneven so every time we picked our arms up off the table our drinks spilled. The waitress came back and took our appetizer order which when we got it it was nothing special. We ordered our dinner (i got steak (rib eye) & he got chicken picata) it again was average. The table next to us was acting like it as a beauty salon instead of a restaurant (braiding each others hair) the waitstaff just let it happen. We got our bill & I was in shock. 131.00 for 2 drinks, 1 app, 2 dinners! Never again"

  • "My wife and I celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary at What If. Everything we had was spectacular...the baked brie with apricot appetizer, the chicken dish my wife had, the salmon entree I enjoyed. We finished it off with the peanut butter pie...wonderful. The service was top notch as well...the waitress was available without being pushy."

  • "What If of Hershey has a relaxed and romantic atmosphere. The restaurant was just busy enough to not be super quiet, but was by no means too loud. With our reservation, we got seated right away. The waitress was attentive, but the food took longer than I expected to come out. We were dining with old friends so it was not a problem. The food was super hot and delicious coming out, so it was definitely worth the wait. "

  • "I had the chicken marsala; delicious and beautiful entre; however, very disappointed with mash potatoes (only warm). The only vegetable choice was brusseled sprouts (which is the last item on my vegetable list); found it to be very tasty and enjoyable. Desserts are huge."

  • "I was blown away by my meal at What if... I was not expecting much as it is in the basement of a Motel near the Theme Park, but the food, drinks and service were all outstanding. The infused martini special was pineapple vanilla and was fabulous! Since we were short on time so we ordered 4 appetizers as our meal. The baked brie and lollipop lamb chops were the best I have had anywhere. Their dessert menu is mouthwatering, but be warned the portions are huge and can easily be split (although they are so good you may not want to split them). The service was outstanding. Even though we were there on a very busy night we never waited very long of felt rushed. We are often in Hershey and will definitely be back to What If..."

  • "Dining at What If... of Hershey was very pleasant. The food was good and the atmosphere was nice. They were busy but not packed. We overheard a couple tables celebrating birthdays and anniversaries, as were my wife and I. The food was well cooked, but the flavors were mismatched for our tastes. The romantic lighting was enjoyable, aside from the light source being at a poor angle causing my body to cast a shadow on my menu/food. The waitress was kind and knowledgeable, but loud... not sure if she was trying to be enthusiastic, but it came off as just shouting. Overall we enjoyed our meal and the restaurant. We would recommend it to friends/others, but probably would search for another venue for future visits."

  • "The food was so good and the dessert was amazing. I had the short rib which was delicious, and my friend had the salmon special, which was also great. The restaurant itself had a romantic ambience (I was with a friend, so this wasn't really a factor for me at the time)...our server was busy and it took him a while to check on us each time, but one of the other servers kept coming over to check on us, so it worked out. We ordered our dessert to go. The peanut butter pie was amaaaaaazing. My friend had the oreo pie, which I didn't try, but it looked great."

  • "We go to the What If a lot, almost every other week. We are seldom disappointed. They always have several fish specials and I almost always get fish when I go out. The specials are always good. The fish is fresh and is usually prepared perfectly, not over cooked nor under cooked. I don't like dry, overcooked fish. The drinks are plentiful and are always good. The salad is consistently fresh and is a variety of leaf lettuce types, which we prefer. Even the bread they give you is very good. The raspberry dressing is the best I've ever had. The service is always good. Waitresses and waiters are very friendly and are very accommodating. I would recommend this place to anyone. All in all you can't go wrong with this restaurant. "

  • "Dinner was great, our server was very friendly and the atmosphere was nice. Me and my wife highly advise that they get a new hostess. She was not very friendly and when I told her that we made reservations she simply said "its going to be a while". We made reservations over a month ago and why did we have to wait. She was dressed very inappropriate for the occasion and was very snotty. Other that that, the server Austin is awesome. "

  • "What If is a consistently great resturant. I have been there many times over the few years and I have never had a bad experience -this was no different. All the food & beverage was good and brought to us with thoughtful course timing, not rushing us. The server, although young, was helpful and accomadting. The only drawback was going during resturant week, which helped lower the final tab, but was lacking in other ways. The salads for those of us that ordered off the special menu were lacking nice lettuce. And the dessert sampler was a strange mix of mini portions. The turtle dessert being so small it was barely a mouthful. If I did not know how great What If was might make me as a critical first time customer not come back."

  • "I made our reservation via OpenTable, site unseen, after noticing their online menu. I had no idea the restaurant was located in the lower level of Howard Johnson's along Chocolate Ave, and we drove by it before seeing the sign. When we first walked in, we were unfortunately greeted with the HoJo's lobby, & nearly walked out to find another place. But, we made our way down the stairs and were greeted with the wonderful aroma of garlic and grilled meats, so we stayed. The apps were terrific (pierogies w/ chorizo), the spinach salad was a little "off" (the vanilla infused dressing made it candy-like) but the wine list was impressive and affordable, so that helped. Excellent entrees & dessert menu - wow! I highly recommend!!"

  • "There were five of us for dinner, celebrating birthdays of two of us. Originally we were seated near a large group (Bridal shower?) that prevented us from having a conversation. We asked to be moved and were accommodated to a quieter table. Food and service were excellent. Appetizers, Entrees, and deserts were all well prepared with large portions. Only complaints were the noise level (even after we were relocated) and final bill ($287.00 + tip) which included no drinks, fairly expensive for our area."

  • "I made reservations at this restaurant for 6:00 but arrived at 5:30. This was supposed to be a dinner and concert gift for my husbands 50th birthday. It was a very busy evening and we ordered our drinks and appetizer right away. After asking about specials we ordered dinner. At 7:30, 2 hours after getting there, we were told we would be served soon,"only 2 tables ahead of us". We asked for the check and received a sincere apology. Thank goodness the concert was fantastic and my husband enjoyed his special night, even without dinner."

  • "We have been dining here for special occasions for years. The service has gone downhill. Out water arrived at our table over 30 minutes after we were seated and had to ask twice to get it. The bread basket only arrived after our main course and we had to ask for that too. Service was slow - we were warned when we placed our order that the kitchen was busy with a party of 50 (sounds like bad planning to me). The menu hasn't changed much in the last several years, was a little disappointed to see the same old entrees. For the amount of money we spent on our food and drinks I would expect better quality and better service. Will probably be taking this establishment off of my list of places to go for that "special" evening out with my husband."

We asked for our bill when we ordered desert which she delivered immediately but took 10 minutes to pick it up from out table.Excellent peanut butter pie for desert.My wife's steak was cold and mine was barley warm.Still the best I ever had."

The pork belly was awesome though but my steak was undercooked but I didn't want to send it back. Will give them another chance in the future."

  • "If you are looking for unique, creative, innovative food, served hot and in a timely manner, you may wish to look elsewhere. If, on the other hand, you prefer drab, standard restaurant fare, served late (3 of 4 entrees were served 20+ minutes after our salads, while the 4th entree was served 28+ minutes after our salads...and it was barely warm!), tepid, and in some cases old (the white rice--yes, white rice!--served with the salmon special had cold, crunchy clumps, suggesting that it was scraped from the bottom of a pot...definitely neither freshly made nor promptly served!), all in a bomb-shelter-like atmosphere (the restaurant is situated in the basement of a hotel and so has no windows or natural light), "What If" offers that in spades."
