A word from W.G. Kitchen and Bar Rookwood
WG Kitchen & Bar is a full service restaurant and bar featuring a 1500 label retail wine shop. Guests will enjoy our bistro style menu ranging from small plate appetizers (charcuterie, assorted cheeses, our family recipe meatballs and more) to full entrees (seafood, pasta, steak, lamb). We have 40+ wines available by the glass or, for the adventurous, by the flight, which is an individual wine tasting comprised of 4 wines in a specific category. We also carry 12+ craft/import/domestic bottled beers. And, finally, guests can enjoy one of our specialty cocktails or their preferred drink from our full bar.

Guests can enjoy excellent, full service at our bar or on our beautiful patio on a first come, first serve basis. OR you can make your reservation for our dining room now.
Either way, we can't wait to see you!

Diner Reviews
  • "We had a very nice dinner, very nice wine in a nice setting. What else do you look for?"

  • "I recently visited WG on Friday evening. While we were not able to have a seat on the lovely patio, we did enjoy a delightful evening in the spacious restaurant. My 2 companions and I shared 3 small plates and a large fresh salad. All the selections were presented in a most pleasing fashion, there was more than enough to share, and we all enjoyed the terrific taste combinations. Thanks for a great evening!"

  • "We have dined @ W G Kitchen about a half dozen times and have thoroughly enjoyed it every time. Great food, great service...we always leave feeling so glad we came. One of our favorites!"

  • "Food and service was good. Great salads. Very noisy. It was hard to have conversation with our table of 4. No beer on tap. Good selection of wines. Our server let us taste some wines before we ordered as we never heard of some of them. Would go back but not rushing. Parking was a problem."

  • "Great service, food and gluten free menu. I will be back for sure!"

  • "This was my first visit to W.G. Kitchen in Rookwood and I was surprised with the excellent service. It is a casual restaurant with 5 star service. The menu has a nice blend of dishes and it not too large. The food was excellent and worth a return visit. The only drawback was that it was a little too loud which had it hard to communicate with the person at the table with me."

  • "The wine is great and doing the wine flights I think it feels like an event. Was surprised, was not expecting such great food!! Will definitely go again."

  • "Brought my mom and her friends' to this place for dinner to celebrate the International Women's Day. We had a very, very aggressive server: she screamed out the features, and kept on her military style in constantly bugging us about one thing or another. She was very pushy and seemed to interrupt any conversation we were trying to enjoy. I do not recall her smiling a single time. If the objective of this restaurant was to usher us in and out w the efficiency rate and friendliness of McDonalds ... Then ... Yes, congratulations - it had been achieved!"

  • "The food was quite good. Service was a bit slow. We had an early reservation because we were heading to a sporting event. Menu has something for everyone and they were flexible and whipped up a salad that used to be on the menu that I think is fantastic. We really enjoyed ourselves."

  • "The food was very well presented and paced, the service was very good and did not hover or neglect the customer. The tables were big and comfortable. The menu features wine flights which is very nice, as this is a wine bar, but on the night I was there at least, the wine flights were nothing to write home about. I hardly call J. Lohr Cabernet the top flight glass of a Cabernet tasting. But the pours were generous for a flight. We had a good time and will come again, it might be a bit too noisy for a business dinner, but otherwise it was a nice evening."

  • "The restaurant is lovely; half is a fairly substantial wine shop, and the other half has tables. We were seated promptly and our server was attentive and knowledgable about both the menu and wines. One of my friends and I both ordered a bottle of wine to go at the start of our meal, which he was kind enough to keep chilled for us until we left. The food is delicious! We ordered Chicken Marsala, barbecue chicken flatbread pizza, Cioppino stew, and spicy shrimp pasta. No complaints on any of the dishes! My only issue is that the restaurant doesn't have high chairs/booster seats. We had to hold my niece throughout the meal since she is a toddler - minor inconvenience, but not a huge deal, and didn't detract from our overall experience."

  • "We had a shorty time to dine to get to a play. We enjoyed a flight of sweet wine and some appetizers. The roasted red pepper bisque was delicious. We also had the roasted red pepper bruschetta and barbecue chicken pizza. All delicious and service friendly! Definitely will return!!!"

  • "A great mix of healthy and gourmet. The picky teenager we had with us even liked it! We will definitely come back again and also will try the Columbus area locations as we are about halfway between Columbus and Cincinnati."

  • "I have been for dinner and for lunch. Both great experiences. I would recommend it to anyone. Great wine list. Large tables for groups. Great location!!"

  • "WE had a party of 6. Reservations were for 8:oo pm WE were seated at 8:40. Yes they were busy but a restaurant needs to spread out the reservations because some people will sit there to long."

  • "Enjoyed everything about this restaurant. Had a fun time with "the girls" doing some wine tasting and enjoying each other's company. The food was very good, although the risotto I had was a little under done and a little crunchy. I did not say anything, however, because it was extremely flavorful!! All in all I'd definitely go back again!"

  • "Great restaurant. Has a New York or chicago feel to it. The menu has something for everyone. The service and food were fantastic. I can't wait to go back."

  • "The night we went there were 2 large parties seated right next to us. They were very loud and took the attention of our server so that we had to be just an after thought. The food was also a disappointment. The hangar steak was tasty but cut against the grain so it was tough. The ciopino was some seafood with a tomato soup poured over it."

  • "We had a group celebration, and a number of us tried different wine flights. These are a wonderful way to try different wines. Our server was friendly, courteous, and attentive. The food came quickly and was good for sharing. I will definitely go back."

  • "Our party enjoyed everything about W.G. Kitchen and Bar! The decor, to begin with, was fabulous - very hip yet comfortable. Melissa the host and waiter was top notch; the food, from meatloaf to risotto special to burgers - was phenomenal. Love the adjacent wine bar and shop, too. We of course uncorked the knowledge of the winos working there and brought home a few choice bottles! Expand to Cleveland, W.G.!"

  • "Such a treat for my cousins virgin dining experience at W.G. We enjoyed the ambiance of the place and relaxed atmosphere. Our server was outgoing and helpful in suggesting the wine selection. The Beer List was quite extensive. I enjoyed the outside dining experience with my daughters for Mother's Day and suggested to my cousins that we could try a spring evening outside to eat next time. The chicken mac-n-cheese was exceptional, now my favorite dish. We enjoyed choosing a variety of appetizers and sharing tasty bites of each. All-in-all a great evening to get together to experience such a friendly place! Thank You."

  • "Enjoy the varied selection of food and wine selections...buying a bottle of wine at retail price and having only a $10 corkage fee is genius..."

  • "Have been here numerous times - always a pleasant experience. Best staff... Enjoyed the Italian wine flight. Had the Margherita pizza for the first time. It was good, but would have been much better with fresh sliced tomatoes, more basil and a sprinkle of dried oregano. It didn't have much flavor. The tomatoes tasted like they were canned. Our server brought more basil upon request."

  • "We reall liked WG Kitchen in Rookwood. The ricotta and honey appetizer is amazing and the wine list is impressive. I wish there were more 'cozy' tables/booths. We were right out in the middle of the restaurant 2 people sitting at a table for 4. We felt a little exposed. I think it is an especially good place for a group of 4-6 people vs. a romantic dinner for 2. I had the spicy shrimp pasta - which was very good. My husband had the linguini and meatballs. The meatballs rivaled any high quality Italian restaurant. We will definitely go back."

  • "My group of five went to the Sunday brunch. There weren't many people there so there was no wait and the restaurant was quiet. I ordered french toast with no powder sugar it came out as ordered but needed to be warmed. The french toast was just ok it came with bacon and fruit. I don't eat pork but the fruit was delicious. Overall I think my guest were happy and we would go again."

  • "Cool concept with the restuarant inside the wine store. The table setup and ambience was good. We thought the food was lacking. My $32 steak was rare instead of medium rare (a suprisingly big difference) and no better than the major steak chains. The mashed potatoes were flavorless. The scallops dinner was equally bland."

  • "I absolutely loved it! The ambiance was great and the food was amazing, especially the ricotta and honey appetizer! Loved the extensive wine list and the option of the wine flights. This is our new favorite restaurant! We will definitely be back."

  • "We have only sent one bottle of wine back in my life, but the waitress was willing to work with us and she was very informative and friendly. She flowed well with our slowness due to wanting to catch up with our company. Loved our time and food. A bit loud, but that is understandable."

  • "I have been meaning to try this place for awhile, but i didn't know about their whole wine store/corkage and wine flight options...those are nice, it makes trying diff wines very easy and affordable. Atmosphere was great and food very good, not a bad price...I went there for the first time with a friend last week and went again with my boyfriend this week!"

  • "I ordered the Spicy Shrimp with Black Bean Wrap and it was delicious! Came with soup or side salad which made for a big lunch, so I ended up taking the other half of the wrap home to have the next day! Delicious lunch!"

  • "My family was in for Thanksgiving and my brother-in-law is a wine lover. Our party of five arrived 15 minutes early for our reservation we were seated right away and our server greeted us and took our wine flight orders. The waiter accommodated our special request for risotto with pleasure. Heaven suggested some additions, chicken shrimp and brocolini was wonderful. We all left with stomachs full of wonderful great wine. A huge success and much of that due to the waiter and chef. You should go to the wine guy, it's great food and atmosphere."

  • "Went for a girls night out and had a wonderful time. Our server was very friendly and attentive and the food was fantastic. The wine flight is a great way to taste several wines at once. We were seated near the entrance so it got a little cool and when crowded it can get a little noisy. Overall a great meal and great service."

  • "WG offers about eight different wine flights which change with reasonable frequency. It is a good way to try wines without committing to an entire bottle of something you've never tasted. My wife and I usually get two different flights and taste each other's, so we get to try eight different wines. They have a good selection of bottles available at reasonable prices, plus a modest corkage fee. The food is good also and they are willing to help accommodate our low carb eating style. All in all, WG is an enjoyable place and we will be back."
