A word from Westport Cafe & Bar
In Paris, the café serves as the center for social interaction. It’s a place where writers, artists, businessmen, and people of all stripes congregate-- to talk, entertain each other, or simply pass the time while enjoying a basic meal, tea, or coffee. In the same tradition, the American tavern serves as the location for the interchange of news and opinions among townspeople, for the sale of solacing liquors, or perhaps for the incidental sociability. Westport Café & Bar is where Parisian café meets classic American Tavern.

Westport Café & Bar offers an American menu with classic French inspiration and preparations. Simple, quality ingredients are braised, grilled, poached, confit, or cured in the same old-world technique that has been practiced by the masters for years. Filet of branzino a la mueniere, pommes frites, sauce béarnaise, roasted chicken grand mere, sauce béchamel, croque monsieur, salads nicoise and lyonnaise.

We look forward to your visit.

  • "This is one of our favorite restaurants located in the lively Westport area. A varied menu that will satisfy vegetarians and carnivores. The ricotta gnocchi is one of our favorites. The prices are very fair and the portions are the perfect size. Also a good wine selection and many interesting cocktails. Highly recommended!"

  • "We picked this restaurant thru open table because of the location and the mussel selection they had on their menu. The restaurant staff are so nice and accommodating towards providing a great experience. This will definitely not be our last time because we walked away knowing that we had found a gem in the ruff. I do recommend making a reservation."

  • "Such a cute and charming brunch spot! Had the Eggs Norwegian and it was very tasty! Friends had the biscuits and gravy and said it lacked flavor. Other friend had chicken fried chicken and said it was good. Had a bite of the french toast in it - very yummy! LOVED that a complimentary beverage came with the meal. We all had the bloody mary and two of us liked it and the other two didn't. It had a sweet flavor to it and came with an olive and mini sweet pickle - makes me curious how the other beverages tasted. I really liked the experience and would love to go back!"

  • "I love finding new places for brunch in the city and Westport is def has a lot to offer! I met some girlfriends for brunch on Sunday. We had placed a reservation for 3. When we arrived, our table was only for 2 but they soon fixed the situation. I had a mimosa and bellini and they were both fantastic. A drink come with your choice of brunch as well. I had the lemon ricotta pancakes and they were very good, a little over-cooked but very good. One of my friends had the Eggs Norwegian (egg benedict with smoked salmon) and I had a bite. I will def be ordering that the next time, fabulous! It was a cute little place and I will def bring my husband. The waitress wasn't the friendliest but the food made up for it."

  • "They couldn't find our reservation. Open Table sent me an email confirmation of our reservation but Westport Café & Bar couldn't find it. What's up with that?"

  • "We went there with another couple. My husband and I ordered 5 appetizers to share, 2 beers, and the bill was under $40. We were plenty full and got to taste several new things this way including spring pea ravioli which is probably one of the best things I have ever had."

  • "Our brunch experience was wonderful--the food, the service and the ambience. Felt like we were in Brooklyn. This café is a great fit for the great neighborhood."

  • "For meeting friends at happy hour in Westport, this is the best! We love the foods offered at happy hour and wish I had eaten more of them this time."

  • "We were needing to catch a bite to eat after the KC Fashion Week runway show. Dining after 11 pm in KC is limited but WCB is always a go to. Having a late night happy hour bar and dinner option is a plus as well."

  • "Our entire family got food poising after eating dinner here. Food seemed low quality"

  • "Food not as good as that at Cafe 39 the morning before. Could not even taste cheese in crepe. Fruit would have been nicer than hashbrowns. Egg baked in toast with truffle oil and fruit at Cafe 39 was much better."

  • "We had a pleasant and enjoyable brunch. The complimentary breakfast cocktails are a nice touch. The food was good (although not the best brunch in town by a long stretch). But I'd certainly go back. The lemon blueberry pancakes were especially good. The eggs benedict was above average. The omelet was good, although a little plain for my tastes."

  • "The food was excellent and a great value - includes a brunch cocktail or coffee or soda. I had the chicken hash and it was to die for (as good as the short rib hash that I used to get at The Boot). Great Bloody Mary too!"

  • "My family and I went to Westport Café for brunch to celebrate my daughter's birthday and had reservations. It was our first time there, and it was bad from the beginning...our table was positioned directly in front of the bathrooms, so that 4 of us had full view of the toilets every time someone went in and out; the female server never smiled and had the personality of a rock, and the food was mediocre at best. It was an expensive and deflating hour and a half. Please, memory, faaaaaaaade."

  • "I loved everything about my experience at Westport Cafe & Bar. The food was delicious, the wait staff was friendly and paid our table just enough attention. I took a friend who was in from out of town and she loved the atmosphere and the drinks were amazing. My only complaint is that the menu type must be about 7 pt. With the dimmed lighting we couldn't read the descriptions at all (and we're not old!). If they could make the menu easier to read I would be very happy. Otherwise, perfect!"

  • "Westport Cafe & Bar never disappoints me. Terrific happy hour, fabulous brunch, great dinners. One of the few places you can get late-night food, so they attract a good theater crowd. Friendly and attentive servers. Try the pea ravioli, steak frites, salad Nicoise and absolutely everything on the brunch menu (their poached eggs are always perfect). Great hand-crafted cocktails (fresh lime juice in the vodka gimlet; spicy Bloody Mary's). Soon you'll have to have a reservation, as the word is spreading. Great value for the money."

  • "The food and atmosphere were great but the tables are so close together that I felt like I was eating with the next table over. There are too many tables crammed together in the back."

  • "I enjoy Westport Cafe very much! Every time I go I try something new from the brunch menu. This trip I enjoyed crepes, with ham, cheese and a sunny side up egg in each crepe. It was delicious. Perfect spot for brunch because a cocktail is included with every brunch menu item. Outstanding atmosphere!"

  • "I went to this WCB for Restaurant Week because I've been meaning to eat there for awhile now and this seemed like a good opportunity. I had the escargot, steak frites, and profiteroles, and everything was delicious. The steak was cooked to perfection and had a wonderful bearnaise on the side. I will definitely come back to try more things on the menu."

  • "Of all the places we went during restaurant week this year, Westport Cafe stood out strong above the rest. we were there on a Friday night. They were jammed but the staff handled it well. The food was outstanding, I had the Char and my wife the Short Ribs both included veggies that were as delectable as the meats. My wife's polenta was so creamy yet light and fluffy that she didn't even realize it was polenta."

  • "I love this little restaurant to death. So many of their dishes are unique and delicious. I recently went for KCRW and the place was packed for 9:00 on a Saturday. Yet, the staff was charming and attentive. This gem is definitely I high energy spot no matter when you go. The bartenders made us quite comfy while we waited for our reservation time. Tried the Terrain of Boudin Noir, which was so wonderful that dish alone will keep me coming back."

  • "Westport Cafe remains a neighborhood gem and one of our favorite restaurants. Considering the high quality and wide variety KC has to offer, that is high praise. Keep up the good work!"

  • ""Paris Style Bistro" in Westport--did not enjoy the food nor service. Perhaps the bar would be better? The best part of our meal was thricotta gnocchi with parmesan and asparagus appetizer--cheesy, sticky with small, garlic-flavored, fried asparagus, served in a pool of oil. Entrees-Seared Tuna Nicoise. If you enjoy oily fish taste, you will love this salad! New potatoes were so undercooked I thought they were water chestnuts. Olives were salty and tasty. No bread or crackers. Our server noticed that I did not enjoy the salad, but opted to not stop by our table until my date finished his Seared Tuna Sandwich (STRONG Ginger Aioli on that), at which point she offered a dessert menu. We declined and agreed NOT to try this place again."

  • "I met a few friends here for brunch one Sunday in December--We'd never been here before, but it seemed like a great place judging from what people said about it online. I had the herbed omelette with pomme frites and let me tell you what--an omelette with only herbs has absolutely no right to taste as fantastic as it did here. It was perfectly, pristinely cooked, and the frites were nothing short of addictive! An omelette that good means only one thing: their cooking staff has a real respect for food. It was a little noisy, but we could hear each other fine at the table so it wasn't a negative thing. Service was great once we were seated (it took a little bit, but that's not surprising given the popularity). Wonderful place!"

  • "I can't believe it's taken me this long to dine here. WCB met all my expectations and the hype that my friends had given it. Loved every bite! Went with some friends for Restaurant Week and we shared everything and I would recommend the Black truffle oil pasta, Arugula w/ Parmesan and Lemon, Escargot, Steak Frites, Short Rib with Polenta and the croissant bread pudding. To drink, I was in a Bourbon mood and wasn't disappointed with either specialty house cocktail."

  • "This cafe has a nice selection of drinks. The menu is nice, but the chef's choice to place almost everything in a puddle of butter is a bit over the top. Without the excess butter, the dishes were quite nice. The trout paired with celeriac root purée is lovely."

  • "Quaint, romantic restaurant setting! The food was excellent (appetizer, entree, dessert) and the waitress was attentive but not overbearing which allowed my girlfriend and I to enjoy a romantic meal. Definitely worth a visit!"

  • "Met with friends and had brunch at the Westport Cafe & Bar last Sunday. Great service, Great Food- the chicken and french toast was simply amazing! The other 3 people I was with felt the same way about their food. The bloody mary, however, was a massive disappointment. I don't have strong feelings about many foods, but sweet pickles top my list. I loathe them; they are just plain wrong. The sweetness of that nasty thing in my drink was very strong and extremely off putting. I've never been to a restaurant where sweet pickles are used in bloody marys and I hope I never do again. If you like sweet pickles, you would most probably enjoy this variation; it just was not for me- a die hard sweet pickle hater"

  • "Tiny tables, a cold blast every time the door opened, and so loud we couldn't hear each other talk. The food was well prepared, but my wife's steak frite was tough. I doubt we'll be back."

And it was just a perfect night to celebrate cause it was the birthday of my special someone and the server was so attentive :) ! And not too long to wait for the food !"

  • "The food was very good. Our steaks were cooked as requested. Beet and goat cheese salad was delicious. Profiteroles good but not the best I've had. Ice cream very good, pastry a bit tough. We shall, however, return. Our table was near the kitchen door, which was not the most pleasant place to sit in the restaurant."
