Diner Reviews
  • "We met 2 friends there on the evening of Easter Sunday. It was quiet and very pleasant. Service was very good and we found a wine we have been looking for and have never seen on a menu. "

  • "My brother, who is a foodie from Massachusetts/Florida enjoys taking us to West End Bistro as part of a family holiday tradition. We enjoy the table overlooking the Exxon station and Walgreens (really) and the food is always excellent. Menu is not overly complicated and all dishes were great. Thanks!"

  • "Nice atmosphere for a business lunch but one gets the press ion of a place that thinks it's better than it is. You can do better."

  • "The food and service was awesome. The truffle mac & cheese is delicious. I will definitely go back."

  • "Food was fantastic. Quite a range of food and very tasty. Server kept this from being 5 stars overall. If she was personable that did not come across. She spoke little and at times was rather curt. The people who brought our dishes and took them away were very friendly. Perhaps she was having a bad night. We will come again but not for a special occasion."

  • "The food was terrific. The service was polite but at times it took our server too long to return or to provide items. My desert order was delayed which was frustrating and it was difficult to find our server to learn why there was a delay. An update from the server on why there was a delay would have been helpful. The server did give me the dessert as complimentary which I appreciated. The bottom line is that for the price of the meal (which is expensive) the service should have been better. I still like this place and would still return in the future. For the price range, I have high expectations of what the service needs to be."

  • "Overall it was good. I had the shrimp & grits, which were good but not great. My wife had a burger, which she said was very good. The cheddar tater tots were disappointing. But the wine list is very good, so go for a burger and great glasses of wine."

  • "My wife and I are regulars at the Bistro. Get a seat by the window to enjoy a view of M Street vibrancy. Start with a Salty Senator cocktail and take your time over the menu. It's refreshed often. Then enjoy a great meal and some fine wine."

  • "I sat at the chef's table with my girlfriend. We met Jake, Jess, and Shurard(?). It was fun to watch everyone cook, and Jess was really accommodating with letting us try different things. It was a great experience and we will definitely be back."

  • "My husband and I came here after the Kennedy Center. Wonderful meal and great service. The sommelier was friendly and got us a fabulous wine for a great price! Overall great dinner!"

  • "I met up with a couple of colleagues for a late dinner. Alexis made some really great suggestions. We had the wedge salad, chicken, the T-bone steak, and lamb shank. Oh, and we shared the Brussels sprouts! Amazing!"

  • "The food and service by Rachel was great! Loved the Brussels sprouts! Will definitely be back!"

  • "We stayed at the Ritz Carleton and had a wonderful meal (without leaving the hotel!) here. Big portions of beautifully prepared dishes with great tastes! And, the brunch the next morning was excellent."
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "Great place for energetic atmosphere yet intimate enough for conversation. Food was excellent service outstanding Wine list is not for newbies on a budget nor those who have not yet cultivated a $60 to $100 plus palate"
    Dined on 3/28/2014
  • "The food was very good as was the server that being said the hostess at the front desk was so rude. I waited for her to take a carry out order over the phone and when I asked if I could join my friend at the bar for a drink before dinner she proceeded to give me a litany of reasons that this half full restaurant could not let us do this. Her attitude and lack of customer service need a lot of work."

  • "Noisy and very busy. This is probably the place to go if you want to be seen in the DC social scene. The over priced food was OK but for my money I would rather go to a place that concentrates on serving a quality product with respect and care rather than being "the next big find". That having been said I am probably in the minority as the place was packed"

  • "I have never been disappointed by the service or the food. Had the duck breast which was done perfectly to my taste."
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "First time at the Bistro for a weekday lunch for two. Excellent service from Rachel, good burger cooked to order, and enough truffle fries for four people. Brussel sprouts were also very good, but swimming in oil. Don't look to closely at the decor ...not dirty, just very, very tired. In need of an overhaul."
    Dined on 3/4/2014
  • "The wine markup here is nothing short of scandalous. The markup from retail approaches 4x which is unreasonable by any measure. There are no wines that are reasonably priced --- for us, it was the lesser of many evils. A pity, since the food goes very well with wine, but at these prices you'll only take one bottle."

  • "WestEnd Bistro was amazing!! Service was great and the food was even better, phenomenal!! I would definitely go back here anytime!"

  • "We were staying at the Ritz and opted to try this in-house restaurant for dinner. We didn't expect too much. What a surprise! The food was great. The service was extremely attentive. We had a lovely dinner."

  • "As a beef short ribs fan I found that dish was the best of its kind I have had in a long time. And the response of the kitchen to those things which were offered with the dish that I did not want was perfect."

  • "A friendly and professional wait staff greets you and seats you at a table with a view of the street. Once you get over the prices on the menu, you can sit back and enjoy a delicious meal with fabulous wines. We will go back!"

  • "Overall very good. Waiter had to be reminded of a side order though."

  • "I work a block from the restaurant so go therre a few times a year and often come away disappointed. Took a friend their for her birthday. Service was good, food was cold and mediocre. Ordered a chicken sandwich on flat bread that was more like a quesadilla. Greasy, small, boring. Since the entrees only come with a side salad, we ordered a side of fries, that were cold and stiff like they had been sitting out for a while. Basket of bread and Dessert were positives. Lunch with the tip was $75 for two people ( no drinks) and should have been better. Have been there before and more positive but very hit of miss."

  • "service and dinner exceptional. a definite special occasion restaurant"
    Dined on 5/26/2013
  • "I had dinner at the Westend Bistro and it is what you can expect from a restaurant in the Ritz Carlton. The food is good, the service is impecable and friendly, but with a bill toping $120 for dinner for two (2 entrees, 1 dessert, 2 drinks) that's the minimum you would expect. It was a nice dinner, but I wasn't wowed."

  • "I had the fennel and arugula salad with lovely lemon vinaigrette. Then I had the roasted chicken. Both excellent. Tables a bit too close."
    Dined on 2/19/2014
  • "We had a delightful meal, a terrific bottle of wine, gracious and helpful service, free parking and warm hospitality. The tab was half of what we expected, and half of what we pay at a neighborhood Virginia restaurant. We have been there several times before, but...what a delightful surprise!"
    Dined on 2/16/2014
  • "The noise level from the bar made it impossible to easily hold a conversation. The place was busy, the waiter was nice (with a good sense of humor) and the food was perfectly nice, but not exceptional. If the hotel would extend the glass partition dividing the bar from the restaurant, i;e. make it another 8 feet taller, it would provide a much nicer dining experience."

  • "Delicious cocktails and the bistro light menu was great - everything was very well cooked and the service was wonderful!"

  • "My wife and I picked this plate for a Feb 14th lunch. Unfortunately the food was not at the level we expected. They ran out of trout so my wife had to order salmon and she didn't even finish it. Overall it was pricey for what we got."

  • "I went to this restaurant after readying the Washington Post Magazie article about it. The oysters were superb. Clean and briny...so good. The bread is almost Irresistible but hold back because you are here for the trout... The trout that the article referred to as a feature of the hotel’s Bistro Light menu is SO VERY GOOD. I cannot believe it was only 375 calories. It was the best meal I have had in recent memory. The staff were attentive and it was a lovely meal. The only negatives: the table is small and very close to the next table. When they placed someone next to me, I heard MUCH more about their relationship than I wanted to. However, all in all, great meal, marvelous service. I will be back."

  • "We walked in at 8 pm and were a little worried because there were so many empty tables. But then the bartenders couldn't have been nicer as we waited for our friends to arrive and the place quickly filled up. At the table, we were so impressed with the food. All four appetizers (tuna tartar, parsnip soup, pate, and mussels) were amazing and then the entrees (2 orders of trout, duck, and salmon) were also fabulous. The server was a little MIA but very nice as were the other people working there. It was a lovely experience, especially from a food perspective. We will be there again soon!"

  • "Our table was not ready in time for our reservation. The staff was clearly concerned and, when we were seated, they brought us free appetizers and a drink. The food was great, the service was just-right, and we really appreciated the concern they felt for our needing to wait. I look forward to returning to Westend Bistro."

  • "we ordered fish sandwich, tuna, and crab soup. the best thing was absolutely the fish. it came with a large delicious salad and the price...$16 which was very reasonable for what we got. go for the sandwich and the service"

  • "We had such a great time at Westend the other night. My wife and I loved sitting at the pass for our anniversary. It was a great way to see how a top kitchen runs firsthand. The Chef was very friendly and our server Alexis was such a treat. The Sommelier Michael did wine pairings for us that were amazing! Highly recommend."
