Diner Reviews
  • "This was our second visit to West Side Steakhouse, and also the second time we ordered the porterhouse for two. The steak was outstanding. The sides are also very good, and more importantly, normal-sized, so you can try a few! The service is very good, and they have an interesting beer selection for beer lovers. We look forward to our third visit."

  • "We were looking for a steakhouse that was not the "5-star, really expensive" kind of place. Found this on trip advisor and booked through open table. Probably would have missed it without directions. Wait staff was very attentive. Food was amazing. Price was good for a steakhouse. Would recommend to anyone."

  • "I always go here when I want to meet up with friends for a proper, but not too expensive dinner near midtown. It's not too noisy, so you can have a decent conversation. The staff are very friendly, and for the location, it's not very expensive! (That said, $5.50 for a tiny side dish of fries is a bit cheeky). The cuts of meat are always good quality, and good value for money - Though, the last time I was there, what constituted 'medium' and 'medium well' seemed to be up for debate. All in all, well worth a visit."

  • "I was looking for a steakhouse taste and feel without the huge steakhouse price tag. Westside Steakhouse was perfect. Enjoyed the delicious ribeye with blue cheese crust...done to perfection. Scallops appetizer also tasty and cooked to perfection. Would definitely return and already told friends and family about it!"

  • "West Side Steak House has amazing steaks. I had the porterhouse and it was excellent. Just melts in your mouth and seasoned perfectly. The atmosphere was great, low dimmed and perfect for a romantic date. The wine list was nice too. I highly recommend this steak house!"

  • "Upon our arrival we were pleased that it was not a large restaurant. It had a family feel to it. The waitress was very nice and helpful. The service was very good. The food was just OK. Had the fried calamari and slab bacon for appretizers. The calalmari was average, but the slab bacon was very tasty. Our rib eye's arrived along with our sides. Steaks were prepared perfectly but weren't as tasty as I have had at other steak houses. The mac and cheese tasted like a boxed brand. The garlic mashed potatoes were pretty good. The sauteed spinach was not bad but I found the portion to be small. As I left the men's room the employees were eating at a table in the back and the size of their portion was what I expected ours to be. "

  • "The owner smokes cigars by the front door and disrespectfully refuses to close the door. Poor customer service."

  • "Food was outstanding; service less than great, had to request items several times. Only a small amount of quests in restaurant; but server was more interested in spending time with gentlemen at the bar."

  • "My husband ordered the T-bone steak, I had the filet mignon & shrimp scampi. We shared three sides: asparagus, onions, mushrooms. Everything we ordered was great. The best of everything was the shrimp scampi - best shrimp I've ever had. For dessert I had the banana-chocolate chip cheesecake- fantastic. My husband had the apple pie and apparently it was only "meh". Very expensive food compared to "back home", but compared to other steak restaurants in the area, not bad at all. Service was great. Took a bit for our waitress to warm up to us, but once she did, she was very nice."

  • "My favorite steak house in NYC. The Ribeye has the bone in. This is the house specialty and you can't go wrong. It is not over run with out of towners. Good drinks, and the wait staff are really nice. If I owned a steak house it would be just like this. If you want to spend more money there are lots of options. To me this is the best value!!"

  • "Im not sure how to feel about this place. I guess if you're a fan of bland seafood then i guess you'd enjoy. Im pretty sure they just cracked the lobster tail open and put it on my plate as is. The shrimp was ok in the sauce it was placed in, but it had a little too much lemon on it (atleast i hope the sour taste was lemon? :-/) and lets not forget the extra bits of dry food on our drinking glasses. Like really, who wouldn't notice that??? I DID enjoy the slab of bacon though. Its virtually impossible to mess up bacon"

  • "The staff are really nice and will seat your group even if most of them aren't there (under reservation). Really romantic place for dates. Ordered the T-bone Steak and it was really juicy."

  • "Our dinner was very good. We started with the Bacon Appetizer (Must Have), shared the Cesar salad (very good but would have liked to have been offered fresh Parmesan and or pepper), had the petite filet and the ribeye. Very good steaks and cooked very well. We shared the sauteed spinach, garlic mashed potatoes and the sauteed mushrooms. Again, food was excellent...the service was slow, not attentive and lacked much character and often looked confused at times."

  • "This was the first time in New York and the steak was cooked perfectly the food was wonderful A+ to the chef, the food was priced right but the service was on the poor side. I might return on the next trip."

  • "This place was a last minute find and it truly delivered in terms of quality and availability, as well as convenience. The food here is absolutely amazing, and the pricing is quite reasonable. The staff are very punctual and are not the types to ignore the customers, as well as not being the zoning out/not paying attention types. All in all, this place is great!"

  • "We had a conference at the Javitts Centre and a party nearby, so I had to find a dinner location in an area I haven't been to before. I used Urbanspoon to help me, and I was NOT disappointed! The reviews did not lie, and we were so impressed! The service was excellent, the food was perfect, and the prices were so reasonable it was unbelievable! We spent the rest of the weekend recommending this restaurant to everyone we talked to!"

  • "West Side Steak House is an awesome steakhouse. It is smaller than the bigger name steakhouse in NYC but the meal is as good if not better than the big names. Excellent cuts of meat and sides are great. Nice beer and wine menu as well. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Will be going back again soon."

  • "This restaurant is truly a treat and with all of the "great" steakhouses in NYC, it is great to have one that is focused on the food and not so much about it's reputation, name, and star-attraction quality. This is my third visit and the food is simply superb --the finest steaks, chops and seafood anywhere and top it all off --it's reasonably priced. Plus, they had the best pecan pie I have tasted since Grandma's. Highly recommend going and enjoying!"

  • "When I decided to take my friend to West Side Steak House, it was all off of a whim. I yelped an unpretentious steakhouse and found this place. The space looked cozy and the dim lighting set up the scene for a great dinner. When I saw that you would have to make reservations, I had a feeling the place would be a bit swanky. Nevertheless, I made my reservation for 9pm. When we arrived, we were quickly seated. I noticed a few eyes shifting. I forgot to mention I am African American and so are my friends :/. In the reviews of this place, it said the manager was really kind to new comers, where as he did not even acknowledge us until he saw the $40 dollar tip we left for a lackluster waitress. I could be paranoid but I didn't feel very welcomed"

  • "Best steak I have had in Manhattan. And I have had quite a few. Plus the price is surprisingly reasonable. Full 12oz filet at $29. Cooked correctly. Fantastic taste. 3 of us, all had steaks, all cooked correct. Dinner rolls are simple, but the way I like them - with a great crust. Baked potato as you'd expect it. 2 appetizers, shrimp cocktail, and liver. I don't eat liver but I was told it was excellent. Two big ice cream scoops of it for $12! Shrimp was larger than most midtown restaurants, 3 pieces for $12. Beer at $7. But you need to make reservations! Don't just show unless you want to sit at the bar. Or maybe sit at the bar. We were there on a Tuesday night and it was packed. Don't miss out!"

  • "The food was pretty good, we had a rib eye steak medium rare, but it came out more medium and cooked that we would have liked. The steak still was good quality and tasted good. The service was mediocre and was not very attentive. The waiter came once to take your order, once to give you the food, and once to give you the bill. There were no recommendations and when we asked about the food they didn't really know."

  • "This 10th Avenue steakhouse has moderate prices that may lure you in, but don't take the bait. The food is mediocre at best, and the entire production is third-tier. Blah calamari, pathetic loin lamb chops with the tails cut off that were (like the rib eye) devoid of flavor, industrial creamed spinich, key lime pie that had no zing, and the ambiance of a cardboard box. Never again."

  • "Searched far and wide in the neighborhood for what we wanted and the West Side Steakhouse stood out. Very positive reviews and reasonably priced. We were early, so it was quiet. Food was fantastic and portions are what you'd expect. Enjoy"

  • "This was a small restaurant and it wasn't very busy, but I don't think that will be true as word gets out! The steak was perfect. The sides were delicious. The wine was so good. Everything was awesome. I would recommend this place to everyone."

  • "We loved this restaurant! All four of us had perfect steaks! Where in NYC can you get a great 12oz filet for $29? Here! The food was delicious, the service was perfect, and we had a great experience. We will definitely be going back!"

  • "I booked this restaurant from Montréal, trip advisor had a pretty good review. The food was very good, I had salmon my friends had steak. Ample portion and you chose your own side vegetables and potatoes at an extra charge but okay. We were going to the theatre so it was a short walk. It is fairly small and intimate and nice and warm on a cold night. Maybe too warm for some. Service was excellent. Quite a small lively bar near the door, looked like regulars or having a drink before they ate. Price was moderate to high depending on your budget."

  • "Last Night in NYC, wanted a Nice peace of meat, so we had the Porterhouse! Perfect taste, perfectly cooked, needed salt and pebber, like everything else we tasted in NYC. Watch out for noise from the inhouse bar, not our thing. Would come back for the food though, but maybe not for romance."

  • "i thought the restaurant was great. Had a good crowd, so you know the food is pretty good. Wait staff was friendly and nice. I didnt feel rushed to be done with dinner. Nice atmosphere. Dinner was nice. i loved the sides i ordered. Sauteed mushrooms and creamed spinach! yumm. I ordered a pasta dish, which was okay. The pasta sauce was too salty for my taste, but i generally eat a low salt diet, so it will probably be okay for others."

  • "This is a solid, traditional steakhouse. Not a cheap place overall, be excellent value for a steakhouse in midtown. I really like the place, have seen the owner on the premises, and think the staff does an okay, if not exceptional job."
