A word from West Restaurant
The "jewel in Vancouver's culinary crown" presents innovative, seasonal dishes brilliantly conceived by Executive Chef Quang Dang and talented pastry chef Rhonda Viani.

Service is seamless and hospitable. The exquisite surroundings include a custom built temperature controlled wall of wine complete with sliding library ladders, providing the backdrop to the bar. The leather chairs are the Mario Bellini designed originals found at MOMA, surrounding etched stone tabletops, highlighting a handsome and inviting room that speaks to contemporary Vancouver.

Over seven hundred labels reside in the collection including an excellent range of half bottles and over thirty wines by the glass. ‘BEST OF AWARD OF EXCELLENCE’ Wine Spectator since 2002.

  • "This was our second time to West for dinner to celebrate an occasion. Each time that we've been there, the experience has been wonderful. The service is friendly and professional, yet everyone is very personable and makes you feel comfortable. The food was delicious: paced perfectly, beautifully presented, artful and delicious. The cocktails were imaginative and a fair selection of wines. The only downfall was the pits in the olives for the martinis! We were also overcharged for the number of oysters we received. After a quick call to the Manager the day after our dinner, we were assured that a refund was being processed on our card. This was yet another 'win' for the restaurant in delivering a top notch experience. We'll be back again."

  • "West is one of our favorite restaurants to bring visiting family andfriends to but unfortunately on thios visit the kitchen was having a very off night. The tuna dish was almost inedible due to the crust being far too spicey, the vegetables were grossly over cooked for 3 of the 4 diners and one dish was far too salty. Our reservation was on a Saturday evening so the chef should have been in the kitchen, and it was not overly busy so there are no excuses for a restaurant of this calibre. One more meal like this and we'll be taking our business to another of Vancouver's fine dining establishments."

  • "The food was excellent, the service very good, but the restaurant is a bit pretentious. For example, the menu emphasized their "biodynamic" organic approach. As best as I can tell, this means local organic foodstuffs in season. The wine -- by the glass -- was outrageously expensive; alternatively, the volume was miserly. The restaurant was also noisy, but that was due to a loud patron."

  • "The waiter comes off as quite arrogant and when he was told he brought the wrong bill, he didn't even apologize for the mix up. To me, it was a difference of a $130 lunch versus a $45 brunch. Saying sorry doesn't hurt; some people in the service/food industry really need to learn when to say sorry and own up to mistakes."

  • "The service was impeccable. The waiter was confused on the subject of frozen fish, when I asked if the halibut was frozen. He said all the fish served was fresh frozen [ on the boat I guess]. Frozen halibut [ the most expensive entree on the menu] is mushy and flavourless, so I had the cod which has more fat in it and is ok frozen. I grew up having fresh fish on Friday's, so I know the difference between fresh and fresh frozen fish."

  • "We did not arrive until our reservation at 6:30 in time for the theatre at 8:00. The staff still gave us the pre-theatre menu. A friend unexpectedly joined us for desert and the waiter & hostess immediately mad a table of 2 into a table for 3. Perfect!"

  • "It's smallish and loudish, but the food and service are outstanding every time. Best oysters in town, divine seafood dishes (sablefish=yum) and other good stuff for you meat lovers. Beautiful wine selection and even more beautiful desserts. Always some who's who at the bar to admire as well. You can't lose at this place - unless you can't get a table."

While it is a bit more lively at night, my girlfriend and I had a wonderful romantic dinner alone. Food was fantastic and done just right to the order.   • "Four of us booked lunch at WEST to celebrate a birthday. Each of us had eaten at West MANY TIME BEFORE and looked forward to our experience; however, for reasons none of us understand, all of the food we ordered was tasteless and at least two items were uneatable. Two of us who ordered halibut cakes sent them back to the kitchen but received replacement menu items that were not much better. One person who did not send back her main course left 2/3 of it on the plate. We all ordered the 3 course lunch: the appetizer Tuna Tartars were tasteless; the beet salads with hummus were tasteless and watery; the only course that was up to par was dessert. The service was very good, but none of us plan to return to West in the near future."

  • "My gf and I went in for dinner on a Wednesday night, the bar was full of guest and the dining room had a good vibe. We decided to indulge ourselves with a lobster gnocchi & seared foie gras appetizer both were plated nicely and hit the spot since we had not eaten throughout the day. We both decided to have fish as our mains which were the sablefish and halibut creation of the day. I think I would have liked less glaze on the sable fish so I could taste the broth more but still tasty. The halibut dish was a great seasonal dish utilizing fresh product with no heavy starch which was nice. The server recommended cocktails that were delicious fruity and creative, we understood why the bar was full of guests would go back even just for drinks."

For a Monday night, it was surprisingly steady, creating a wonderful ambience without being over-crowded. The service was exceptional (very important to me) and everything from the bread and starters through our mains and desserts was absolutely incredible. The wine and spirit selection was also excellent. Upon leaving the restaurant, we both agreed that this was hands down the best meal that we've had in 2014. As foodies who dine out on the regular, this is no statement to be taken lightly. Give West a try, you will not regret it! "

I watched the sous chef finish plates for a few minutes and it was great to see someone who obviously cared about every plate going out. Everything we ordered was good, but I came away with the impression that the flavors were just a bit muddled or flat and not really popping for me. Maybe an off night. I will be back."

  • "Our first time at West Restaurant + the food was ABYSMAL. The Foie Gras Appetizers were rubbery + dry, with a skin on them, as if they had been hot held vs being prepared a la minute. The 10 oz. USDA Prime Ribeye Entrees were ultra lean, gristly + tough. They came bloody notwithstanding the fact that we ordered them medium rare. The sauteed mushrooms that accompanied the steak contained hard bits + pieces of mushroom stems that were difficult to chew + inedible. Likewise, the potato pave was a soggy overcooked mess. The Ling Cod Entree was mediocre at best. It too, seemed as though it had been hot held + was dried out as a result. The highlight of the meal turned out to be the $18 wine by the glass + the coffee. Service was just so-so."
