A word from West Restaurant
The "jewel in Vancouver's culinary crown" presents innovative, seasonal dishes brilliantly conceived by Executive Chef Quang Dang and talented pastry chef Rhonda Viani.

Service is seamless and hospitable. The exquisite surroundings include a custom built temperature controlled wall of wine complete with sliding library ladders, providing the backdrop to the bar. The leather chairs are the Mario Bellini designed originals found at MOMA, surrounding etched stone tabletops, highlighting a handsome and inviting room that speaks to contemporary Vancouver.

Over seven hundred labels reside in the collection including an excellent range of half bottles and over thirty wines by the glass. ‘BEST OF AWARD OF EXCELLENCE’ Wine Spectator since 2002.

Reservations are not required for seats at the bar.

I watched the sous chef finish plates for a few minutes and it was great to see someone who obviously cared about every plate going out. Everything we ordered was good, but I came away with the impression that the flavors were just a bit muddled or flat and not really popping for me. Maybe an off night. I will be back."

  • "Our first time at West Restaurant + the food was ABYSMAL. The Foie Gras Appetizers were rubbery + dry, with a skin on them, as if they had been hot held vs being prepared a la minute. The 10 oz. USDA Prime Ribeye Entrees were ultra lean, gristly + tough. They came bloody notwithstanding the fact that we ordered them medium rare. The sauteed mushrooms that accompanied the steak contained hard bits + pieces of mushroom stems that were difficult to chew + inedible. Likewise, the potato pave was a soggy overcooked mess. The Ling Cod Entree was mediocre at best. It too, seemed as though it had been hot held + was dried out as a result. The highlight of the meal turned out to be the $18 wine by the glass + the coffee. Service was just so-so."

Highly recommend the scallops as an appy. This place is not cheap but neither are the rest of the top table restaurants. Ronny B was an unreal service. Felt much more at home here than going to blue water. I would definitely go back."

  • "We went for a Sunday brunch and the food was pretty old school but tasty, nothing innovative here. There were only three or four tables and two servers. Our server did not seem happy at all to serve us. He did the bare minimum and did not even come by during the meal to see how it was after having us wait for too long to place the order. I understand that a slow brunch service is not a tip maker for a server but he should not look so obviously disgruntled and disengaged. Even though the meal was tasty, I don't think we will be going back."

  • "Though the food here last Saturday night was very good and our waitress was wonderful, our overall impression of West is very poor. Our reservation was made a few weeks in advance for 7:30 PM for a milestone birthday celebration, but it took the restaurant an hour to seat our group of five because we were told several times that the previous diners at the table were not finished. Thus we stood in the path to the door for an hour while others who came long after us were seated. At one point someone brought us some appetizers which we were expected to eat standing in the doorway. We did get some complimentary wine but my celebration was spoiled by a poor first impression of West."

  • "We were looking forward to a return visit at West. We arrived early, so expected to wait, but not for a full 35 minutes past our reservation time. Of course, a pricey cocktail took some of the sting, but we still spent over an hour standing in a crowded entranceway while scores of people arrived, and moved past. When I began to ask, we were told "only a few of the eight o'clock tables had been seated" before us. When we were finally seated our waitress apologetically assured us the night would get better, but the stellar food was delayed by those who passed us in the entrance way, and ultimately bittered by our experience beside the bustling wait-station. Sometimes, even a good room reaches beyond its limits. Unfortunately, this one has."

  • "Lobster gnocchi, the only recommended dish. Despite the gnocchi slightly overcooked and a bit mushy, did have a flavourful lobster taste. The broth was also quite good but the lobster meat was a bit overcooked, still alright overall though. Next, the diver caught scallops. Reasonably priced at $7.50 each tasted tender and the celeriac puree was smooth, creamy and slightly sweet. For the entrees, the ribeye had too much tendon, hence the chewy meat. Although the first few bites were quite tasty as well as juicy but for $49, not worth it. The other entree was the rack of lamb which tasted tender but also just average. I recommend the tasting menus, they may be be better. Service was average as well, nothing special and no complaints."

  • "I have always loved this restaurant, but our meal last Thursday was exceptional from start to finish with perfect service and exquisite food presented like art! In particular, the foie gras appetizer is delightfully sinful and the bison short ribs with lobster meat was original and delectable. Very accommodating, professional servers and staff. A great choice for pre-theatre at the Stanley which is a 3 minute walk away."

  • "We have been to West for dinner in the past including once for Dine-out, but not for a few years. The food this time around was not good. The soup appetizer was heavy and salty. The veal entree was fatty and tough. The dessert was ok, but given the remainder of the meal was not good it was all in all a waste of money for us. Add to that the voice message from the restaurant reminding us of our reservation and the 90 minute time allotment, we hardly felt welcomed. Dine-out has run its' course for us as it is clear the bottom line is to seat as many people as possible. The quality of the food is below what we had expected. This is a high end restaurant. We expected more. No more West for us."
