West RestaurantFrench food using local ingredientsThe four of us went on a Sunday at 6 p.m. so the restaurant was fairly quiet. We requested a booth and got ring-side seats to the kitchen. Our waiter, Julian, was very attentive. The food was excellent and artfully presented. Next time, my husband and I will be sure to have the lobster gnocchi and the duck, which one of our party ordered. The scallops were killer. My husband and I had been at La Regalade the weekend prior to dining at West and were very disappointed at the quality of the food. For example, my husband ordered duck and it was a leg and thigh, and was very bony and fatty and was approx. the same price as the beautifully presented duck breast at West. The experience was flawless - excellent food, attentive service and a relaxed ambiance. My gluten-free dietary request was accommodated with ease and there was even a basket of house-made fresh gluten-free bread done especially for me at a moment's notice. The cocktail list is inventive and the drinks we tried were fantastic. Only two things that need improvement - the waiter seemed to be constantly trying to 'up sell' - suggesting side scallops with the crab salad, suggesting an order of foie with the duck entree, this isn't necessary in this type of restaurant; the other negative was that the wine we selected was not available.
There were wonderful dessert choices although I felt like the $15 plus for the chocolate tasting plate was high, it really wasn't particularly special, everything was sticky and overly sweet.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food.
