  • "West Oak is a great dining experience but it is also great for a vibrant late night bar scene. I've eaten here a few times and the food and service is always great! My last visit was with a friend and we ended up chatting so much we were there for over 4 hours and the staff did not rush us at all."

  • "Expecting much more from West Oak. Small portions. Over priced wine and not a great selection of wines under $70.00. Scallops were tasty. Gnocchi was thick and not very tasty. Dessert menu lacks - if you don't want chocolate the only of choice was pecan pie."

  • "Food and atmosphere was good. Seating at the bar, outside, in the restaurant or at the food preparation area. So, although it's not a huge room, each area has it's own vibe. I arrived early and, while waiting for friends, was made comfortable by the friendly staff. I'll visit again. Will have to stop by to check out happy hour sometime."

  • "The first time I ate here it was a quick snack of breakfast Mimosas and whatever else my friend ate. The mimosas were delish! The second time I brought three other friends with me, all very picky, one a vegan. Bringing them there was a great success we shared the goat cheese bruschetta, which made our mouths water and our stomachs even hungrier for the next course. I am a small eater and so ordered a salad to follow, mixed field greens. It says a lot about a restaurant if they can make a simple salad delectable, West Oak did this. The ambience is great, what a nice day to have an outdoor dining area, the Vancouver sun was shining down on us and the people watching was great."

  • "we made the reservation on the open table for 6.30 for 6 people and when we arrived the hostess told us that we have to leave by 8.15 do not have the opening for6.30 if you book the table for 8.15 it was very unpleasant it is not a cheap restaurant so we did not expect to be treated that way we will not be back and we will not recommend this plave"

  • "I took my roommate here for his Birthday brunch and it was amazing. It was a great looking space, the patio was heated and warm, even on a rainy day! The food was delicious. I would eat the hash brown potatoes all day long. When our server found out it was his birthday, she brought us an amazing plate of cookies to celebrate! She even went out to look for candles. It was fabulous all round!"

  • "This place wasn't even on my radar, but I am so happy I went! The food was very west coast and very well made and presented. Quality ingredients for sure. The staff were so friendly, inviting, accommodating, and attentive. Small, but effective wine list. The cocktails we had were delicious as well. I loved the room. It was modern and warm. I would definitely recommend this place to people, and I will be back. "

  • "Recently visited for lunch with out-of-town guests. Staff were exceptional - welcoming, courteous, knowledgeable. My guests were in transit with their suitcases and the staff volunteered to store them safely away, without acting like it was an unusual occurrence. We were made to feel completely comfortable remaining at our table after lunch to visit without being pressured by staff to vacate (or buy more). Menu is a little bit safe - standard west coast contemporary type fare, but prices were good, and portions surprisingly generous. Beet salad was a standout at less than $10"

  • "We had dinner at West Oak on new years eve - early seating. Warm atmosphere, lively, pleasant staff, awesome food. My husband had tenderloin and I the sablefish, both perfectly cooked. Loved the carpaccio to start and the Moscow Mules. Everything was delish. Charmaine our server was efficient and very pleasant. The champagne and vodka bar at the back looks like it would be great fun. We loved Chinoise (the former restaurant in this space), it's the same owner but a different style altogether. We'll definitely be back, looking forward to trying the crab cakes, mussels & fries and..."

  • "We went in this past Sunday for a birthday brunch with a table of 8. Our reservation was at 12pm and we didnt leave until past 2pm. The food was good....service was friendly...but we felt that the pace of everything, from the food coming out to us getting our cake and billing....it was very very slow. I'd also like to mention that we were the ONLY table there throughout the entire service. The kitchen only had our order to make...our waiter, only had ONE table to serve. If you're going to go, make sure you are not in any rush or on a tight timeline."

  • "Great energetic atmosphere but didn't feel rushed at all. The sablefish was very good but risotto, although tasty, seemed more like rice, as did a friend's side order of mushroom risotto. At the end of our meal, the server brought us a complimentary order of their famous cookies because of the delay in serving our meals but we hadn't even noticed. This tells me management is on top of things and proactive, which has been consistent over the course of my many dining experiences at West Oak. Thank you Peter and your team for another great evening!"

  • "Four friends getting together to dine and chat - ordered the platter for four as it seemed a logical choice. The food on the platter was excellent but we all felt (even the fierce carnivores in the group) that it was too heavily weighted to meat and potatoes. Would have loved more seafood and brightly colored veggies. The complimentary scallop appetizer was a very nice touch and also delicious. Our server was excellent; friendly and attentive. Our only complaint was that as the evening wore on the restaurant was so noisy that we couldn't even hear each other and that was at a table for 4. For that reason, I would think twice before recommending this restaurant. It would depend on what type of experience the diner was going for."

  • "The staff and patrons were almost uniformly scenic but the good was, on the whole, average. Not bad, but hitting below their weight. An exception: the Brussels sprouts were out of this world (no, really) and a dining companion said the fries were too. The bartender wasn't very versatile either -- if your cocktail isn't on their bar list, don't expect them to know how to make it. I might go here again for drinks and snacks, but not a meal. And not for conversation -- too loud."

  • "The food was great as was the service. I would definitely go back. If you're looking for a restaurant in Yaletown, definitely this is a very good choice. It's the best steak I've had in Vancouver (much better than the Keg). Per the menu, it's grass fed, etc and it definitely tasted like such. The prices were quite reasonable."

  • "We took a last minute chance on West Oak on a rainy Friday night and just snuck in before the rush. Great choice! Started at the bar while they prepped our table and enjoyed several features off their $9 bar menu (doubles!) which were well crafted. Followed by fantastic service and meals at dinner. Really enjoyed the personal attention by the owner and other host who added to the lively conversation and experience. We'll be back!"

  • "I took my parents here for taste of Yaletown and it didn't disappoint. My parents had the cauliflower truffle soup and the seafood pasta. I had the sablefish with risotto. Everything was cooked to perfection and our server was so patient and attentive throughout the evening. My parents are already talking about going back for more. Great evening, definitely provided the same service as when I went on a regular night."

  • "Went to West Oak for a nice romantic dinner. Great location (heart of Yaletown). BF ordered off the Taste of Yaletown menu, I ordered off the regular menu for variety. Got the roast chicken with potatoes, broccolini and dijon sauce. AMAZING flavours and presentation! The only complaint was that the dish had a bit of pickled something that was too salty. BF's sablefish dish was delicious but the fish was a bit underdone. Great cocktails and appies. The restaurant was a bit too loud once it got busier. Music was a bit too loud."
