Diner Reviews
  • "Had the mussels for an appetizer which I have had before. This time they were fishy to the point of being inedible. You could smell them coming. Everyone at the table said the same thing and urged me to send them back. Then entrees. I had the organic chicken which was good but another person at my table had the pasta with shrimp. The shrimps were worse than the mussels! They were fishy and chewy and had obviously had been frozen for way too long. This time we said something because it was getting ridiculous. We were nice about it and did not ask for anything else. The waiter gave us an nasty attitude and ruined our night. For a dinner that cost over two hundred dollars what happened is unacceptable and sadly we will not be returning."

  • "The food was very good. But, I had the lobster and shrimp ravioli, with only one shrimp. Small portion. Was still hungry. The mussels appetizer was very good and enough for two."

  • "The service was outstanding, they made you feel welcomed and were not over bearing. Food was straight out of a magazine, appearance was amazing and taste was fresh and perfect. I will definitely go back!!!!! By far the best restaurant. The atmosphere was awesome as well, not too quite and not too noisy. Great vibes, happy staff and off course happy customer."

  • "It was a busy Sunday evening, the place was packed. The food was excellent, beautifully presented. But the service, while friendly, was a comedy of errors. And while the $32 prix fix menu is a bargain, being forced to order dessert right at the start is simply crazy. It's not like my pecan pie was made to order! I was stuffed after the main course, and would have preferred the sorbet but I was locked in."

  • "Food and service excellent. Healthy menu. Love this place as do countless others."

  • "This was my first time dining here and I will definitely be back. The atmosphere is nice inside, reminds me of being at a cafe in the city. It is a great lunch spot if you work in the area. It is a little nicer too, which is nice. The service and food choices were great. I was very happy with my experience."

  • "2 people ordered regular menu items & 2 friends ordered off the price fix menu which had almost every appetizer, meal & desert for $30. Good deal but they make you pick desert at time of ordering your meal, no exceptions - really weird. Service was attentive up until we got our meal....then bam! They bring desert over for the 2 price fix friends and never even ask the other 2 people in our group if desert was wanted. Took 10 miuntes to hail down a waiter to request a desert menu & another 10 until they came back to see if we wanted anything. By that time we were too annoyed and the other 2 were done with desert. apple crip desert was blah creme brulee was warm and not quite settled plus the sugar topping should hae been thicker"

  • "Twilight special is available all day Sunday for $31.95 and consists of app, entree and dessert. All very generous portions. Food quality is excellent, service is good, nice tap beer selection served at proper temperature. Wine list is weak but appropriate for neighborhood place. An excellent value."

  • "Discovered West End Cafe in dismal strip mall-(almost turned back when we saw the parking lot!). It was filled with a crowd of happy groups, happy because the food was excellent, and the service was great. Ignore the parking lot- it's a great place !"

  • "Haven't gone here in awhile because its difficult to get in on a Saturday but did get in this past Saturday. Always very crowded and impossible to get to the bar. But we had a 7:30 reservation and were seated at a great table against the wall almost immediately. The staff is very attentive and aims to please. The food is exceptional and consistent and for an upscale restaurant, the prices are fairly reasonable. I had the Ahi Tuna Rare and my wife had the lamb. Both were superb. This is one of the best restaurants on Long Island. Its a don't miss place. Love it."

  • "I've had dinner and lunch at the West End Cafe many times, for many years. It never disappoints. The food is consistently enjoyable and I find the lunch menu to be excellent. Actually, more of a variety than the dinner menu. (My opinion only) The atmosphere is very pleasing with a friendly staff and great service. Worth checking it out but make a reservation to be safe."

  • "You must have a reservation even for lunch! This is always "the place to go" in the Carle Place area. Delicious and inventive, never ordinary. Good, well-paced service. Nicely decorated, upscale. I do not think they serve continually from lunch to dinner ..."

  • "This was my first time @ West End Café and went having heard good things from a colleague. Overall, I thought the food was good to very good, but the service was just average. I went on a cold night recently and the restaurant was not very busy so I expected the server to on top of things as he was not that busy, but that wasn't the case. He seemed to disappear a couple of times and although it didn't really have a big impact on our experience it left me wanting more. I will go back to see if I experience the same issue and hope not as I would like to make this restaurant part of my routine."

  • "The prix fixe dinner is a good deal. Began with portabello and mozzarella. OK but not as flavorful as some I've had. My friend enjoyed the beet and goat cheese salad. Next course, we both had pasta--shrimp and lobster ravioli and butternut squash and goat cheese. Both excellently prepared--light and not gummy. Desserts were nothing special--creme brulee and apple crumble (more crumble than anything else). Make sure you make a reservation as it gets really packed. Maybe that's why the service felt a little rushed. Clearly a local favorite."

  • "This is and has always been my favorite restaurant. They just don't disappoint. The food is consistently good and the menu always has lots if great and different items. It's always revolving as is the drink menu. It's impossible not to like this place."

  • "The food is definitely over-rated. This restaurant doesn't warrant the crowd that they draw. The food was dry and tasteless. The desserts were awful. Will not revisit this cafe."

  • "This has to be the best food and the best presentation. Their Sunset special from 3 p.m. on Sunday for $31.95 is AMAZING. Everyone needs to go here!!"

  • "Kasi and Marissa welcome you as their guest. Not just a Hi How Many? The food from the amazing Rack of Lamb to the Ahi Tuna with Soba noodles has been a consistent dish for my wife and myself. Lets not forget the Duck Tacos, Flat Bread and of course the Calamari (original corn meal batter was GREAT) but the bread crumb style is freah and not chewy. Sometimes the service can be fast unless you mention to your server to pace your apps and entrees. The wines by the glass will always compliment your food as they have a variety of choices. And don't forget to leave room for dessert."

  • "We have always enjoyed this restaurant. It is probably our favorite., the service good and the surroundings pleasant. It tends to be a little noisy at times though."

  • "The WEC is always enjoyable. The food is well prepared, well presented and flavorful and the menu offers a wide variety. We went for an early lunch and so the sound level was not as high as it can be at other times. My very small complaint was that the waiter asked for our drink order before giving us the wine list, and did not offer any alternatives to a member of our party (who could not drink alcohol)."

  • "There were 5 of us for the Sunday Prixe Fix dinner. There were many choices (more than most other restaurants we have visited). I had mussels for appy, spaghettini with shrimp and then pistachio brownie dessert-all excellent. All other diners enjoyed their choices very much. Will visit again."

  • "this is the first time in all my years dining that the waitress took my empty beer glass and didn't ask me if i wanted another (which I did) I waited to see if she was going to ask when she came back, but she never did...i drank water the rest of the night....financially your loss; ruined my dining experience. we have been coming to your restaurant for many years; food was great..as always!! ould like to know why beer was put into a brandy shaped glass instead of a mug??? very strange"
