Diner Reviews
  • "Four of us dined and enjoyed duck tacos, mussels, beet and goat cheese salad for appetizers; asparagus ricotta lemon ravioli, lobster shrimp ravioli and panko chicken w/fettucine for main; creme brulee, peach crisp, pecan pie, and pistachio sundae for dessert. Cocktails were perfect. Hot rolls welcoming. Service was impeccable."

  • "The West End Cafe is as fine a restaurant as any in Manhattan but it is located in a strip mall in Carle Place on Long Island. I always come for the Twilight fixed price dinner which provides an appetizer, entree and dessert . The duck Taco appetizer is to die for! The Lobster and Shrimp Ravioli is light and fulfilling and the Pecan Pie is delightful. They also serve a bread basket with delicious warm onion rolls. This restaurant is my neighborhood gem but it's worth traveling any distance to enjoy. Reservations in advance is a must for the twilight dinner!!"

  • "I totally enjoyed catching up with a friend over a wonderful lunch. Besides the amazing garlic knots the Ahi tuna salad is my favorite. Can't go wrong with anything on this unique menu. No rushing , wonderful pleasant service and I suggest reservation. Many people have discovered this wonderful resturant so make an opentable reservation and be prepared to keep coming back."

  • "Celebrating my birthday at the West End was as great as celebrating with family--- only I did not prepare the menu, cook the food and or clean up the dishes. So for me it was a real birthday- just about me. And as always you are able to accommodate my mother's needs. Thanks for making my day special."

  • "Thankfully booked early for a table on Friday night as the restaurant was full around 6:00pm. Enjoyed the twilight dinner menu which had a good selection of seafood, chicken, meat and vegetarian. I was not disappointed with any aspect of the dining experience as the West End Cafe always lives up to expectation. Highly recommend for a feeling of SoHo in suburbia."

  • "Hidden in a corner of a shopping center. It's a great find. Food, service and drinks all excellent. Great eclectic menu"

  • "A party of eight made a repeat visit to this mainstay of dining. Highlights of our experience included: appetizers-duck taco, organic stuffed eggs with sweet bacon, meatballs, and mussels. Main courses-lobster shrimp ravioli, asparagus and ramp ravioli, salmon. Desserts-grand marnier creme brulee, ice cream atop a home made brownie, and peach crisp...all wonderful. Bread basket was diverse, fresh and warm. The staff is very accommodating and it is always a pleasure to dine at West End Cafe!"

  • "Enjoy the food and service but the noise level makes it difficult to converse."

  • "West End Cafe is a perennial favorite in our household. We can always enjoy a tasty meal in a nice atmosphere. They change the menu often enough that you don't get bored but not enough that you miss your favorites. The wine choices are very pleasing, offer variety and opportunity to taste new wines. The staff is very accommodating while providing excellent service."

  • "the noise level is such that I would not return to this restaurant if I needed to have a conversation."

  • "The food is the best! and prixe fixe is an excellent value for 3-course dinner. Our faves are: Juicy tasty chicken that is tender and tasty; fresh veggies and fluffy mashed potatoes; scallops; salads. Their creme brulee and pecan choclate pie are tied for first place in deserts, but they all are very good. Enjoyed our meal and had a great waiter. We also like the busboys who are very professional and tend to smile. Friendly place."

  • "All 5 of us enjoyed our meals. Food & service was VG. Plenty to eat. Noise level very loud."

  • "Voted one of my favorites; actually dined for lunch with friends and went back that evening with spouse. The menu is different from the usual fanfare, kudos to the chef and kitchen staff. A bit on the noisy side so I wouldn't recommend it as romantic. Definitely recommend."

  • "It is still my favorite LI restaurant! Food is always perfectly prepared!"

  • "Drinks are exceptionally high. 14$ for a drink is not what I pay."

  • "We went on a Monday night, expecting the restaurant to be empty. The place was hopping and every table I saw was being used. We were a little cramped and too close to the table behind us, but at my request, they gave us a table that was out of the way and somewhat quiet. The room was very noisy but we could hear one another perfectly. The wait staff did a professional job. The food was well prepared."

  • "West End Café never disappoints. Not the biggest menu, but everything on it is great! The Wait staff is always friends and knowledgeable even when posed impossible questions... ("What's better the tuna or the salmon?"). The tuna pizza appetizer is mandatory."

  • "This was my first time at the West End and it was wonderful! The decor is beautiful and it is a great place for a nice occasion or just a dinner out. The nut crusted goat cheese salad was delicious as a first course and I ordered the burrata (stuffed mozzarella) as my entree. However, if your hungry the romano crusted chicken cutlet is to die for! The beer braised short ribs was more like a deconstructed stew but it was also delicious. Overall I had a wonderful time at the West End and I can't wait to go back for another great meal!"

  • "Had the mussels appetizer which was good. Friend had short ribs and liked them."

  • "The food was delicious from start to finish. Waiter was nice & friendly. Only problem I have is that they cleared off the table too quickly even when we're not finished eating. There were some empty tables and it was busy for a wednesday night. The place is small so I guess they needed the table for other guests. (There was no one waiting.) I would give it a five star if they didn't rush us. Definitely not a place to hang out and chill."

  • "West End Cafe is always a special treat for me. Their sauces and other food combinations are delicious. They never disappoint me. My only disappointment is that I can never get a reservation for Saturday night. Lunch and weekday dinners are never a problem."

  • "I know I can count on West End Cafe for a delicious, fresh, and often-times creative meal. I try things I wouldn't ordinarily, because I trust their palate. With a great seasonal menu, I never have to have the same thing twice, though I do find myself returning to certain favorites (tuna sashimi pizza! beet & goat cheese salad!). On this last visit, we tried the quesadilla and WOW it was great. With a deep bar and knowledgeable staff, this is a favorite restaurant and a diamond in the rough in the land of "casual dining" chains."

  • "We recommended West End Cafe to four friends and suggested dining here. The food was very good. However, the air conditioning was shut off mid meal and when we told our server we were extremely uncomfortable he did nothing about the problem. My friends were flushed and uncomfortable; you could feel the humidity in the room. We ended the meal as quickly as we could. No matter how well food is prepared if it is uncomfortable in the restaurant it is not an enjoyable meal. I was embarrassed to be the one who recommended eating here. The total lack of regard for our complaint was inexcusable."

  • "I had heard good things about this restaurant so I had to try it. I was disappointed. For an appetizer we ordered a dip and it came already spread out on very this pitas. It was way too chunky to be called a dip, first, and second I order dip because I want to dip the pitsa myself! My cousin ordered sangria and all it wss was seltzer with cheap red wine poured on top. I ordered roasted chicken that I was told would fall off the bone. It didn't. It was tough and tasteless. We ordered molten lava cake for desert. There was no lava. Just a dry cupcake with whipped cream on it. The waiter was uninterested in being friendly or providing good service. The chrck came, the rest of our desert and water glasses were taken away before we finished."

  • "The Food was great. My wife had Scallops and I had short ribs. Both were made to perfection. The best part was the desert, peanut butter tart. the service was better than better. The only problem was the noise level, it was much too high."

  • "I have been coming to this outstanding restaurant (in a shopping center that does not live up to the quality of the restaurant) for years. The menu has stayed pretty much the same, but the preparation and presentation of the food has only gotten better. The service was excellent, and the noise level was conducive to being able to totally hear the person across the table. There price fixed dinner is fabulous and well worth the money."

  • "I really enjoyed my recent dinner at the West End Cafe. It's such a nice restaurant and even though it's tucked away in the shopping center it is always busy. The food was delicious and our waiter Vinnie was helpful, friendly and efficient."

  • "The food was delicious, the restaurant very accommodating. We went for my mother in law's 91 birthday and she was thrilled. She had a problem with the spices on her order and they remade it the way she wanted it."

  • "Looked for a place for a light supper and West End was perfect. Little surprised to find it tucked into the corner of a non-nondescript shopping center, but once inside, was very attractive. Tuna Tartare was excellent. Husband thoroughly enjoyed his ravioli in a flavorful sauce. My molded crab cake salad was delicious. Not my neighborhood, but if it was, I'd consider it a gem!"

  • "If you ever watched Cheers you would remember when Norm would walk into the bar and everyone would say "Norm". When you walk into West End you may not be Norm but you are greeted with a smile and seated within minutes of your reservation. Then of course there is the consistent food and service as well. So when you need that night out and just need to chill and have a great meal.... It's West End Cafe "

  • "Made reservations through Opentable for our 35th wedding anniversary dinner. Seated as soon as we got there and had a great meal. Opted for the price fixe menu and a bottle of wine. Short ribs were great. We will definitely return."

  • "Service was very good. Garlic knots delicious. Excellent value. Good wine reasonably priced. Mussels were excellent, but pork chop though tast and properly prepared was a bit tough. Deserts were good. Overall a very pleasant dining experience."
