Diner Reviews
  • "Brought a coworker who just moved to Cambridge for a chat over dinner. Though a bit noisy the restaurant is a great place to have an energetic discussion. The small plates are great, brisket + gnocchi was a fantastic combination for a just-right dinner portion. Service is friendly and efficient, location is great. Definitely coming back..."

  • "West bridge is definitely one of the best options for a reasonably priced ($40-70) up-scale and trendy meal in Boston with atmosphere and presentation to match. After running out of one of the dishes the restaurant went above and beyond to address it by bringing us an extra comped dish in addition to the replacement we ordered. I still can't help but find Boston to have a sub-par food scene compared to NYC, Chicago, SFO and Seattle but West Bridge is a good option among what's here."

  • "Lovely atmosphere. I had taking time off for lunch, cause most places take too long to seat and serve you, but not this place. This was my third time there for lunch. I had a reservation so we got seated immediately. The server was very efficient but did not rush us. Our order was ready within 10 min, and the food was great. Service has always been consistent."

  • "Loved all the delicious small plates. Go with close friends-everything is shared."

  • "The restaurant itself is really cool. The decor is nice and I like the vibe. You can tell they put alot of time into every detail. The drink list was impressive. I tried the Conant's Island which was Cucumber vodka, rice wine vinegar and green tabasco. It sounds strange but it was delicious. I had the Strawberry Cobbler which was strawberry infused vodka, lime, mint and soda. It was amazing. I would only recommend going for drinks. I tried 3 veggie dishes and I only liked one. The cauliflower was good. The carrots were okay. Theggplant was gross. My boyfriend tried the egg in a jar after reading reviews saying it was amazing. He said it was nothing special. Overall nice decor, exceptional drinks, average food."

  • "There's not much to say about West Bridge besides it is an excellent dining experience. My girlfriend and I went there for a date, which it is perfect for, and we can't wait to go back again with our friends. To start with the staff was warm and lively, and pretty knowledgeable. We had delicious cocktails, 5 different small plates which were all exceptional and a scrumptious dessert. Will definitely be coming back again. A+ location too, the little cove at One Kendall Square is definitely a great place to go with excellent options and a movie theater."

  • "Cocktails were good - mezcal-based drink was smoky and spicy, the Exporter was a hit. We skipped the egg in a jar - we were disappointed with it during our first visit. Small plates got high marks - carrot, eggplant, and octopus dishes were all good. We shared the bass large plate and were glad we did. Nice meal. Not inexpensive but worth the money."

  • "Finally a place that melds incredible food that is inventive but not overly stuffy or pretentious with tasty cocktails and a very warm and caring service staff. This place has become my new favorite place to go out to eat in Boston."

  • "Creative menu; very good to excellent food; Professional, pleasant, un-obtrusive, yet helpful wait-staff. Our party tried most of the small dishes and found the majority to be excellent. Noisy week-end atmosphere."

  • "This is one of the best place for dinner. The dishes are made with heart, and that's the most important. I can taste them in different levels of flavor in every dishes and great plating. Can't ask for more."

  • "There are a lot of good eating options in Kendall Sq. But Westbridge is one of our favorites. Focus is on small plates. Delicious and adventuresome combinations of flavors. Menu changes regularly. But the egg in the jar will always remain. I think there would be a revolution if it disappeared. The wine by the glass list is a little sparse. They focus on french and a few others. The Rose is always great and is generally what I get. The menu accommodates gluten sensitivities really well. Prices are reasonable. It can be a noisy scene. But it varies day to day. Wednesday night was quiet and very enjoyable."

  • "Very cool place, the decor is very nice. The tasting menu is definitely worth a try. And a nice cocktail list. Their 'love and fear' cocktail is superb!"

  • "Great, unique menu served small plate style for sharing. We were a group of two adults and three grown children. We each ordered two plates and shared two desserts. The food and service was great. With tip the bill was $350."

  • "The food is terrific -- strong flavors, interesting combinations, everything was very well prepared. The noise level prevented us from being able to have a conversation, and interfered with our enjoyment of dinner. This was our second visit to West Bridge. The noise level the first time wrecked the evening. We decided to give it a second try, and made a reservation for early in the evening, hoping if the restaurant were reasonably empty, it would be quiet enough to be able to talk to each other. Unfortunately, the space is very reverberant, background music forces everyone to talk over it, and noise levels rapidly escalate until the whole experience is unpleasant. Which is a shame, because the chef is clearly very talented."

  • "Our friend moved to Switzerland and misses the creativity of American restaurants. He loved the meal. So, score one for West Bridge. I'm a chef & I found all of the dishes slightly lacking. Predictable given how overly complicated the menu is. So many "small format" plates that each have so much going on. I appreciate the effort but would have loved a better flow to the meal. Server was a little theme-park in her performance. Sometimes when I go out to dine I wish the service could be a little less theatrical, so that a good meal can be a background to a great conversation with loved ones. Wines by the glass list is kind of thin. Just saying. All in all, though, a nice meal."

  • "I was not impressed with the food at West Bridge. They push the small plate concepts. The plates are SMALL. Three small shrimp, three small scallops. And very heavy. The shrimp came with a huge portion on softened butter covering it. I don't know about you, but I can only take butter in very small doses. We also had the Seafood Potage. I did like this, but it was in a heavy cream sauce. The best dishes we had were the Farro & Pumpkin and The Black Tuscan Kale (which was a decent serving size). The ambience was less than expected in a restaurant this price range - very stark, loud, spare, and cold in feel. We will not be back."

  • "the food was excellent as it has been on every trip -- interesting combinations without being overly bizarre or forced. We eat there on a Sunday evening and the noise level (which can be high at other times) was a pleasant buzz (not sure if this was a one-off observation or not)."

  • "We have been introducing friends to West Bridge since our first visit and everyone makes comments like "that was the best lamb I ever ate" or "this chicken is amazing". The small plates are total taste treats and yet enough for everyone to have a taste. The specials are unique and we love the little "gifts" from the kitchen."

  • "Delicious, creative small plates. Gnocchi and seafood potage were standouts. My group of four ordered two eggs in a jar because of all the hype but were a little underwhelmed- it's basically rich mashed potatoes with a poached egg on top. Server was friendly but rushed. Definitely go hungry!"

  • "This is a wonderful place to dine with friends because their menu is mostly made up of small plates where you can experiment and share dishes with each other. The farro and pumpkin and egg in a jar were my favorite plates because of their creamy texture and flavor. The waitstaff was attentive and helpful. We chose the Tempranillo, which paired wonderfully with the richness of entree sized steak that we also ordered to share. The only thing that bothered me was the noise level. The high ceiling made for a very loud dining experience and I had a tough time hearing the waitress and friends. Chef Matthew Gaudet and his team put together a great menu of familiar and exciting ingredients and we will be back with more friends!"

  • "We were led to a high table with stools with no backs -- one of us has a bad back but there were no other tables with regular chairs so we were led to the lounge to have dinner at a small cocktail table. The restaurant is VERY noisy. We chose a $40 bottle of wine and the server arrived with a half-bottle. We just don't order th equivalent of $80 bottles of wine. In very fine print on the wine list, this bottle was listed by its mililiters. The duck breast as a special was tough. We expected so much more and were very disappointed except in the server who did all she could to cheer us up."

  • "We were pleasantly surprised by the food. The small plates format was a great way to sample a variety of dishes and keep it light if needed. Service was good, maybe a touch slow. The ambiance is somewhat industrial geek chic. Our table was right at the entrance (OpenTable curse hits again), not the homiest environment, i.e. would not be my Valentine's Day pick. The place was busy, and we will be back for the food."

  • "After visiting West Bridge on several occasions, I can confidently say this is my favorite restaurant. The food is consistently mind-blowing. As the meal progresses I can feel myself turning into a giddy child as each bite is better than the last. I also appreciate the flexibility of the menu. If you want to dine tapas style, stick to an array of small plates and share with your dining companions. Not the sharing type? That's fine, you can get a large plate all to your own. Feel like dining family style? They have you covered there too with excellent entrees designed to share. Finally, the cocktail menu has some of the more unique and imaginative offerings you'll encounter. Eat here."

  • "Unbelievable execution from both sides of the house. 7 course tasting was incredible with chefs ability to deliver complex flavor profiles using simple New England ingredients that made your mouth feel alive. We will be back that's for sure."

  • "The food was delicious and creative. Egg in the jar, grilled shrimp, and octopus were great small dishes as was the whole fried quail. Most everything had a sauce on top and a few were rather rich. Our waitress was attentive, informative and nice.the place is very loud, meaning that you have to scream to your table mates. Even so we had an enjoyable time."

  • "The tasting was fine, but underseasoned to our liking. The next trip, when we ordered ala cart was much better. The octopus and egg in a jar were outstanding - and very well seasoned. The scallop and lmab belly were also excellent. We'll be going back - often!"

  • "Arrived with party of four and taken to a table for eight, with four other seats about to be filled. Told 30-40 minutes until table for four available. Thought about leaving but seemed unlikely we'd be able to find better alternative Saturday night at 7:30. Fortunately, as we were ordering, they said table for four had opened up. It may well have been the best table in the house, in the corner by a window, but sound level, which was substantially better than our initial seating in the middle of the room, was still so loud that we frequently had to ask each other (and waitress) to repeat comments. I presume that some younger people enjoy the "buzz" of a hot spot. We found that it simply destroyed what otherwise was an excellent meal."

  • "Came here twice, the first one during Drunch on NY day. We thought we will definitely give he restaurant another try of its regular menu. We love this place; the cocktails were one of the best we've had, the menu is creative, food is great and unique, definitely will come back again another time."

  • "The food here is excellent. We each had a small plate and a large plate which was ample. One could easily be satisfied with two small plates. They have large plates for sharing as well. Everything we ordered was both intriguing and superb. The waiting was friendly, efficient and down to earth. The room is spacious with a central bar. There's little about to muffle noise so we chose 7PM on a very cold Tuesday night for our reservation & the place was busy but not crowded, which kept the noise down. It's a shame that one often has to shout to be heard in many restaurants that serve excellent cuisine. I consistently strive to find places where the pleasure of eating can be shared with friends in normal conversational tones."

  • "Service was excellent, always available when needed yet not hovering with extensive knowledge about the menu which is necessary considering there are no explanations to dish preparations. The snails were prepared in a unique way but tasteless Egg in a jar was the highlight of the evening as well as the salted caramel ice cream, heavenly The squash soup was very tasty but too minuscule an amount,( approx 3/4 cup) I would have liked "more please sir". The chix which has a 3 day preparation was a dissapointment It was not hot, barely warm, skin not crispy and unfortunately just ok. It would be wise for the kitchen to invest in a plate warmer, cold plates do not enhance flavors or the experience when sharing dishes."

  • "We've been to West Bridge several times and on our latest visit we splurged for the tasting menu and accompanying wine tasting. It was likely the best meal I've ever had. Portion sizes were just right - we left satisfied but not stuffed. The food was interesting - coddled egg with mushroom ragu was my personal favorite - and delicious. What's more, the staff were knowledgeable, attentive yet not intrusive, and we got a personal visit from Alexis, who was genuinely interested in our feedback. I recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a superior meal and will continue to do so especially after this experience."
