I made my first visit to Wence's
on a Saturday evening at around 7. We were seated pretty quickly and the service was good. But the noise! There are some very simple things they could do to reduce the decibels in the place. It was built with ALL hard surfaces. The food was excellent and I would hate to see them fail because of something so basic and so fixable. I will go back again but will probably ask to sit outdoors."

First time eating at Wence's after
many recommendations. Not the best service, but the caprese salad and crab stack made up for it!! Delicious and will most likely return. The only negative ... A couple near us, arrived before us, my husband and I ordered, ate and payed for our meal before they even got an entrée! What rubbed me wrong about the situation is neither the server or manager apologized. They just kept trying to justify, I wanted to say "just say sorry and move on!". The server was very defensive and walked away from the table rolling her eyes. I own a retail store, and to customers, perception is reality."

I have been here several times
with friends and family. The food is fantastic, the cocktail area is quaint, and I have never had bad service. The only thing I wish would change is the noise level, I would not consider this place "romantic" for that reason."

Our group gets together every
couple of months. We like to try locally owned places. After seeing Wence's on Open Table and reading many positive reviews, we decided to try it. There were 9 of us (originally 16, then down to 12, then 10, and one didn't show up). We all enjoyed the food, from the crab stacks to the sweet potato fries, from the sea bass special of the day to the cheeseburger (for a 10-year-old who thoroughly enjoyed it). The cookie melt and creme brulee were delicious desserts. The noise level truly IS very high, so we were actually happy that our party of 16 had dwindled to nine, or we would never have been able to talk amongst ourselves. We all agreed we would go back."

Great resturaunt for all. Local
community gem. Will always be back."
Dined on 7/13/2014
The food was extremely good
however the noise level was very loud. It was very difficult to hear my husband who was sitting across from me. I loved the food so will definitely be back however because of the noise level, my husband does not want to return."

Had lunch with a friend. The
expansion looks good. They needed more room. The food was good/great (that's the upper side of good). Their soup that day - lobster chowder - was really wonderful! My sandwich was good. My friend raved about her street tacos! We will go again."
Dined on 7/9/2014
Really wonderful food! Excellent
service! It's hidden away in a step mall in pleasant hill, almost Lafayette . Definitely worth trying!"
Dined on 7/7/2014
I had the swordfish -it was
excellent. My daughter had Caesar salad with prawns which was very good as well."

We've been to all the Walnut Creek
restaurants, and except for a select few, find them pretty mediocre and not worth the money. We were pleasantly surprised at the level of "foodieness" of Wence's. The food was wonderful - beautifully presented, sophisticated/interesting flavors, very generous portions (I should have brought some home but it was so good I could not stop eating!), and the service was also great. I myself am a very good cook, so I have a high bar. Wence's met/exceeded it. Let's hope our 2nd visit is as good as the first."

Went with a party of 7 retired
corporate women who are all foodies. They agreed we should come back and all try different items from the menu!"
Dined on 6/23/2014
No issue with the food, once it
came, but big service drop-off from previous visits. Has been a breath of fresh air in P Hill, but this time service was very slow & did not check me in for OpenTable reservation so I had to go to OpenTable to get credit for visit, as restaurant was not willing to do anything about it when I called (or at least didn't know what to do about it). They were quite busy, perhaps understaffed -- due to recent expansion of restaurant square footage?"
Dined on 6/22/2014
We got 6:15 pm reservation but we
didn't get our dinner served until 7:10. It was not busy when arrived so we were surprised it took so long to get our meals. My husband liked his seafood grill since he suggested to the waitress that it should be seared and not cooked thoroughly. However, my seafood pasta was soaking in pesto sauce. The waitress was very professional and friendly."

Was not expecting to find the food
as good as it was for being a neighborhood restaurant. Food was excellent and a good portion. I order the calamari appetizer and the pork chop (really big size), both were very well prepared. Equal to the restaurants in SF. Will definitely returning on a regular basis."
Dined on 6/15/2014
The salmon was very good, the
gnocchi was fine but not great. We sat outside, the server was a bit disorganized but very pleasant. I will go back again and would take friends there."

Selected Wence's based on many
positive reviews. However, we had an awful experience. For 20 minutes nary a server looked our way. When I got up and asked if someone would take our order, the response was "OK, wadaya want?" Really?! Took another 20 minutes to get our appetizer. Nearly 30 minutes after the app plates were removed we still didn't have our entrees. The server said the kitchen had run out of bread for my sandwich. Found the manager who said that wasn't true, that the Father's Day crowd caused the delays. After I pointed out four tables that were seated after us and served already, she said, "Just another 5 minutes." 15 minutes later the food finally arrived. It was tasty, but given the awful service, I'll never return."
Dined on 6/15/2014
Was taken here for an early
Father's Day/Birthday dinner. Good selection for everyone on menu. Food arrived hot and prepared well. We had a number of appetizers to start, and then ordered our entrees. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food, and there was plenty of it! We took several containers home for later. Service was very good and prompt. Would happily go back there again...."

The food and presentation were
outstanding. We started with the scallops which were perfectly prepared and presented. Entree's were the swordfish and mahi-mahi. The presention is right there or better than San Francisco's finest restaurants. The mahi-mahi was on top of some potatoes and green beans, topped with a plum and mango salsa - to die for. Similarly the swordfish comes stacked in between veggies and toppings. Service was great, the waitress has been there a while an knows all the menu items in great detail. From a food standpoint I think it is the best restuarant in area - WC, Lafayette, Danville, etc. - and throw in the reasonable prices and it is even better. if yo have never been this is a gem you need to try."

Wonderful food, good service.
Everything fresh and presented beautifully. We love that this is a neighborhood, locally-owned restaurant right here in Pleasant Hill. Great that they have expanded!"

Wences is a must-go, must-see and
must-dine place in Pleasant Hill. Located on Oak Park Boulevard, it is conveniently located, and the parking is excellent. The interior decor is vibrant, and the food is tremendous - and wait until you taste their desserts! I have another reservation for this coming weekend - and I'm going to make it a twice-or-more-a-month experience!"

The BBQ chicken salad was one of
the best I've ever had. The atmosphere is a little tired. But, a great neighborhood find"

Needed to find a good spot for
dinner with my wife to celebrate our 12yr anniversary. We wanted to try a place that wasn't along the well beaten paths of Walnut Creek. A good friend had been here a few times and had nothing but great things to say. So when I brought up the need for a good dinner spot for a special occasion my friend said "I've told you before about this place Wence's in Pleasant Hill. You gotta go.". Well we did...and we are glad we did. Such a great dinner spot. We will be back. "

This was not our first visit to
Wences, although it was our first time for mother's day brunch. My aunt wondered how they could have fresh crab, but she was so pleased with the crab cakes and her crab Louis salad. My husband also had crab in a crab Benedict--he loved it! I am allergic to shellfish, so my food was much less exotic--a spinach, tomato, and artichoke frittata that was excellent. We also had drinks--all were great! Finally, we shared an order of the beignets--how can you go wrong with fried dough with powdered sugar?! A generous order of three good sized beignets with a strawberry jam type topping on the side--not too sweet and a perfect complement. A great brunch in a great spot. Recently expanded as well so lots of room!"

Once again the Wences family
provided an excellent fresh meal and recommend this establishment to all. "

Nice neighborhood restaurant that
has expanded their restaurant size. First weeknight opening the new part of the restaurant. Menu was good but missed the Paella that no longer was offered. Male waiter needed to be less serious and recommend any special if any since we only had the menu items. Quality of food was great. "

As we were driving up to the
place. we could hear the diners inside! I thought, "Uh Oh, this is gonna be ear splitting." But we went in anyway and enjoyed the meal even if we did have to shout at each other to hear. We ordered crab cakes to start and they were very good. I got a cheeseburger with a salad and it was very good. The salad was extra delicious because the dressing was so fresh and flavorful. For desert we ordered bread pudding. It was ok. Should have ordered tiramisu. I will go back and try something else and hopefully it will not be so loud. BTW, our server, Courtney was great."

The food at Wence's is always
creative, beautifully served, and delicious. Service can be a little slow, but it's worth the wait. I really wish they would expand the wine list."

Great salads just the right
dressings. Relaxing time not rushed.excellent service.Caesar salad delicious"

So the food was OK. Don't bother
making an RSVP because even with a reservation, they run VERY late. Also, the owner gives people the menu while they are waiting so that they can quickly order. Then after a 30min wait (past reservation) she walks around looking at everyone to see who will finish quickly...Waitress asked us as we sat down what we wanted to order and drink...then checking back every minute, THEN brought us our bill as we were still eating our entree. Very rushed. Not very kid-friendly or date night. BUT the food for the price was reasonable (like $23 entree, special of the day - Halibut $28, Appetizers $8-$10. Overall, not a great experience mostly due to the way its run."

I chose it when it first opened
because it is close to my camera club meeting place. But after going there several times I realized how much I like it, and convinced other camera club members to meet me there sometimes. It has become so popular now that I have to make a reservation. I'm glad. One downside - the menu doesn't change much over time. Of course, that's an upside too, because I know I get things I like."
Dined on 4/3/2014
Fish tacos seem like the fish was
fried but did not say that on the menu. Pretty greasy. Tuna melt was good flavor but there was minimal tuna on the sandwich, mostly bread and lots of lettuce. Fries were supposed to be done crispy but they came pretty soft. Not as good as previous visits. Hope it is not going downhill. Service was ok but the music is loud and no response to repeated requests to lower it."
Dined on 4/3/2014
Dinner was excellent. Wine list so
so and tables are way too close together. But our dishes were so good it almost didn't matter"
Dined on 3/27/2014
My wife and I usually drop in for
dinner on Friday nights, but decided to grab lunch on Saturday instead. As usual, the food was great, service awesome and as a result, we will dropping in for lunch more often."
Dined on 3/22/2014
Been here a number of times. Great
food at reasonable prices. Last time seated 45 minutes after our reservation time (we were early). Ordered entrees only and another 45 minutes. That was probably the slowest experience to date but it always slow. It's a small and pretty loud place when busy. Although I heard they are moving next door in the strip mall to a larger location."
Dined on 3/7/2014
Wonderful dinner. Recommendations-
Wence's Chicken Gorgonzola, Cajun Chicken Jambalaya-perfect blend of spices & just the right amount of "heat", Special Grilled Lamb Chops in Cabernet sauce- perfectly cooked with crisp green beans and potatoes. All good size portions. Caesar Salad huge. Presentation of the food was beautiful, you could see the care given to the wonderful food. The waitress was terrific. It was a treat to be able to sit and catch-up with friends without feeling rushed. Great wine list. YES we will be going back there soon."
Dined on 3/5/2014
Treated us great. My father is not
very mobile and the took very good care of us. Food was incredible. Our group of 7 had 7 finicky eaters. All were happy with their selection which was a first for us."
Dined on 2/28/2014
The waitress was slow and
unresponsive. Refilled my water one time. Never asked if I wanted a second drink. The appetizer was a crab dish with avocado and some sauces. The crab was the most bland thing I have ever eaten in my life. It was like textured water. Very disappointed. The biggest thing was the time. It took 45 minutes to get our ap and another 30 to get our main. I had sea bass and my girlfriend had the pork chop. Mine was fine, the mussels and clams with it were cooked well. The broth was tasty . GF's pork chop was pretty mundane. not bad, not good. Given the price tag (which is what we expected) $85 for 1 ap, 2 mains and a beer we were very disappointed. Maybe we're just not quite there yet out here in Pleasant Hill."
Dined on 2/17/2014
We shared a delicious artichoke
salad, then my husband had salmon and I had swordfish. The vegetables were particularly amazing!"
Dined on 2/15/2014
Overall I was very disappointed
with my meal. We've been to Wence's on a couple other occasions and really enjoyed it, my hope is they were just not prepared for a Valentine's Day crowd. -- 8pm reservations and we were seated at 830pm -- Our initial bread basket was thrown together with only three heels of bread -- My chicken saltimbocca was wrapped in a thick piece of breakfast ham (maybe I missed it on the menu, but I assumed it should be prosciutto) -- Chicken and potato came out piping hot, while the vegetables on the plate were luke warm (at best) -- Servers all seemed frazzled and rushed Again I hope this was an aberration as we've enjoyed ourselves in the past. We'll probably be back, just not at a busy time."
Dined on 2/14/2014
We were seated promptly when we
arrived. The food and service were excellent, as always! They had a special Valentine's Dinner menu, which made it all the more special. This was a perfect choice for a romantic Valentine's dinner."
