Five of us had dinner at Webster House. 3 out of 5 dinners were good. 2, which were both the chicken entree were not so good. The fingerling potatoes were not fully cooked (hard). The chicken was okay...just mediocre. There was a private birthday party going on in the room next door to our table, so it was rather noisy until the birthday group sat down for dinner.

We have dined at Webster House many times and have always had an enjoyable meal. We had a couple from out of town and there were four of us. The meal was excellent as usual but the service was absolutely poor. We were greeted appropriately by a server. She took our order and we never saw her again. I flagged down someone from the wait staff and someone else was finally assigned to our table but even then service was slow. I hope this is unusual and does not become routine. Thanks.

We had a last minute opportunity to have dinner with family visiting from out of town. All 5 of us raved about the food. The steaks were awesome, the salads inventive. We also shared a delicious piece of chocolate cake ! Thanks for a great experience.

I was delighted with my first visit to Webster House. The service was exceptional....from servers but, especially, the hostess desk. Menu interesting and our choices of lamb and salmon prepared to our liking. All we asked was delivered and more. Will certainly return for the next special event.

  • A disappointing experience

I was disappointed at my latest experience at the Webster House. I have always enjoyed it in the past. I had an out of town guest with me. We had been there before together. This time the service was not as good as the past. My friend's salad arrived late, was overly salted, and the chilled fork seemed to have been in the freezer. One of my shrimps was cooked well, the other was undercooked. The server seemed inept. The entire experience was below the standard of the Webster House.

This is one of the best restaurants Kansas City has to offer. We sat at the chefs table, which is a four seat bar that is nestled up to the kitchen. Watching the kitchen staff and chef prepare the meals was like watching a well orchestrated dance. Everything that we ordered was mouth watering. I had to remind myself to breathe between bites! If you haven't experienced the Webster House then you are truly missing out on a KC gem.

We have eaten there before, but quite a while ago. The food was excellent, as was the service. It was a bit noisy as we were near the kitchen & it was a very busy night. We felt underdressed. People were dining there before the Kaufman event so they were exceptionally dressed, and there was a wedding party dining. This was a Friday night so we should have expected a little more upscale attire. The rooms of merchandise were exceptional. If you want to find items that are not readily found at other specialty shops, this is the place. Lovely shopping venue, great food!

We ate there before the season-opening Symphony concert and enjoyed the dinner. Having made the reservation several weeks in advance, we were shown to a table crammed into a corner next to the bar. We asked for a better table in a main dining room and were accommodated, though not without a bit of grumbling. Once at the second table we had a very pleasant dinner experience.

given the favorable reviews, I had high expectations for Webster House but when my mussel special arrived, I was somewhat underwhelmed with when they were way overcooked (I'm guessing they were cooked long before my order and had shrunk to raisin size). My main course (salmon) was excellently prepared, however. Dessert was good albeit boring. Prices were high. This is a good "dinner w/ grandmother type place." Wide spaced tables, effective service, hit and miss on the food.

We visited this restaurant for our four year anniversary. Upon our arrival the building is beautifully renovated and the hostess greated us politely and pointed us in the right direction. The dining room was elegant and the view was nice. Candlelight and only a few other patrons was setting up for a romantic evening. It ended with that, dinner was bad! Over priced and small portions. Not what we was expecting for $80 for just two people. The chicken was so small we joked that we got a chick instead of chicken. It was covered in lemon also the broccoli. Potatoes was just plain, no spice or flavor and my pasta was no better then mac-n-cheese. I had maybe four or five small shrimp in it. We left hungry and disappointed.

I have always loved this place; from the browsing the shop to the dessert and view! Unfortunately, I feel Webster House is changing. The shop items are changing from the antique collective pieces to clothes and trinkets. My husband I would arrive an hour early to admire to collection pieces that dated way back! Although the food is still good, I feel it is just not the same as it used to be. What I ordered was more of a lunch portion (and the receipt stated it was) even though I had not asked for a lunch portion. I was quite disappointed in this.

Everything was great but after you order your desert, the waiter no longer checks on you. We waited 15-minutes after finishing our desert, just 5 small tables in the room & we watched as the waiter/bartender and the manager checked everyone's table not once or twice but some 3-times without even looking at us or offering water. We finally went to the bar & asked for our check

We went to Webster House because we like it and they were offering $10 lunches for Labor Day weekend. The choices were great. Our food (grilled salmon salad and pureed carrot soup). The extra touches at Webster House are great. The soup was garnished with pistachios, black sesame seeds and a miso cream. Pretzel rolls are served before your meal with sea salt butter. I ordered my salmon medium rare, and my companion ordered medium. Both came exactly as ordered.

Webster House is located next door to the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, offering an amazing selection of quality antiques, personal accessories and phenomenal dining. Last night was catching up with the girls for an evening of shopping/dinner at the Webster House. The summer supper small plates we ordered included; southern fried green tomatoes with (AMAZING) pimento cheese, (FABULOUS) crab dip with grilled pita chips and the (BEST) heirloom tomato bruschetta I have ever had!! Most of the ladies ordered the sea scallops with baja slaw & cilantro aioli. Our server Amine was attentive; overall enjoyed our dining experience and we will definitely be back.

Since I have only been there for lunch twice, my recommendations are limited for dinner, bar or wine list. I don't live close, so I don't come down often. Both visits were very nice. Food was good and prices were reasonable. The first time I came with a group of ladies, and it was very accommodating for us. This time I brought a friend down for her birthday lunch. She had not eaten there before--and said she enjoyed. We shopped also. We both found treasures to buy. I plan not to wait so long to come back. It was a very pleasant day.

The food was tasty and interestingly prepared. The service was very good, but the dinner menu was limited and there were very few "regular" type entrees like a steak, fish, chicken or the equivalent. Most items were either sandwiches or salads, which while sufficiently sized, were not our idea of dinner entree items.

Impressive building...beautiful. We were seated in the library. Our food was nice. We had the crab dip, the special, and the shrimp salad. Wine selection was nice. There were only 2 other tables of patrons in the room with us. A chef carried on conversations with one of the tables repeatedly, a gentleman in a suit checked on the other table, but we just sat there waiting for our food. We asked for a dessert menu and then waited 15 minutes before my husband told them we had to leave. No one came back for our order. Finally, the man in the suit came to check on us, and got our server so we could leave. We love farm to table, but this will not be where we return. It was not a busy night. Maybe we just came the wrong night.
