Diner Reviews
  • "Webster House is located next door to the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, offering an amazing selection of quality antiques, personal accessories and phenomenal dining. Last night was catching up with the girls for an evening of shopping/dinner at the Webster House. The summer supper small plates we ordered included; southern fried green tomatoes with (AMAZING) pimento cheese, (FABULOUS) crab dip with grilled pita chips and the (BEST) heirloom tomato bruschetta I have ever had!! Most of the ladies ordered the sea scallops with baja slaw & cilantro aioli. Our server Amine was attentive; overall enjoyed our dining experience and we will definitely be back."

  • "This was our 55th Anniversary dinner. We were seated immediately and had a great waitress. The food was outstanding! Keelee took great care of us."

  • "Service tends to consistently slow. Server seems to have to many tables and takes a bit to get back to us. Consider leaving the ticket when the entrée is delivered since that is always the hold up when I come there."

  • "The food was wonderful and the service even better. Information we requested about the area was "spot on." Webster House will be a future destination."

  • "The site has boutique shops with multiple subjects: home decor and clothing. Upstairs in the old school are several charming dining areas. The menu is concise but has variety."

  • "Since I have only been there for lunch twice, my recommendations are limited for dinner, bar or wine list. I don't live close, so I don't come down often. Both visits were very nice. Food was good and prices were reasonable. The first time I came with a group of ladies, and it was very accommodating for us. This time I brought a friend down for her birthday lunch. She had not eaten there before--and said she enjoyed. We shopped also. We both found treasures to buy. I plan not to wait so long to come back. It was a very pleasant day."

  • "Nice atmosphere - you can imagine all the small children sitting in the classrooms in this historic, charming building. The brunch was delicious (french toast with hazelnuts and short ribs with polenta.... YUM!), and the lunches I have had there were amazing. Always a must-see when traveling to Kansas City."

  • "Great food but what eally sets Webster House apart is the amazing service. Perhaps the best I've had in KC. You will not regret coming here!"
    Dined on 8/9/2014
  • "The food was tasty and interestingly prepared. The service was very good, but the dinner menu was limited and there were very few "regular" type entrees like a steak, fish, chicken or the equivalent. Most items were either sandwiches or salads, which while sufficiently sized, were not our idea of dinner entree items."

  • "I thought the menu was very limited. It was explained to us that the kitchen was being remodeled, so that was probably the reason for the limited menu. Otherwise the experience was great."

  • "Impressive building...beautiful. We were seated in the library. Our food was nice. We had the crab dip, the special, and the shrimp salad. Wine selection was nice. There were only 2 other tables of patrons in the room with us. A chef carried on conversations with one of the tables repeatedly, a gentleman in a suit checked on the other table, but we just sat there waiting for our food. We asked for a dessert menu and then waited 15 minutes before my husband told them we had to leave. No one came back for our order. Finally, the man in the suit came to check on us, and got our server so we could leave. We love farm to table, but this will not be where we return. It was not a busy night. Maybe we just came the wrong night."

  • "This was the ideal place to create a memory. It was just lunch with a few family members, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope someday we will be reminiscing our enjoyable time spent together, and this will be one of them."

  • "Beautiful historic structure. Friendly professional staff. Great bar to start evening. Ambitious and very well-executed menu of offerings. Starters of soup special and salads, and our mains of seafood plates and pasta plates were all excellent. Our party closed the place. A delightful dining experience all-around."

  • "I have been to Webster House a number of times and the updated menu was great. Had a melon salad that was light and fantastic. The scallops and the almond encrusted salmon were both perfect! And the very cobbler was great. The service was right on! This is a solid restaurant with a great menu and great service. I will recommend this place to friends and will return myself!"

  • "Has potential but way off the mark. I'm always tempted to order mussels when I see them on the menu, I should have passed on temptation. Received about one third of the order you get at other places for double the cost. The medium rare filet was more on the rare side and again, overpriced. Small portion of scallops. In general the food tasted good, service was decent, however I expected much more out of the experience for the price."

  • "Webster House is my go-to place for a nice lunch with friends. The food is great--mostly light but satisfying--and a little shopping afterwards is a perfect ending!"

  • "Took a vendor to lunch who is new to KC. She was amazed. Someplace she could really tell others about and use for her own luncheons. Service was super as always and great food. The relaxed atmosphere made it a nice break in the day. I highly recommend it to anyone bringing in someone new to KC or visitors."

  • "Lunch was really special, the Chef thought outside the box and had wonderful specials Tuesday. Always enjoy the Webster House but this was a really special luncheon. Try it you'll like it."

  • "The elegant environs of the Webster House restaurant calm the spirit and set even the most callous attitude up for a delightful dining experience. The menu was crafted to please diverse palattes, and the resulting lunches did not disappoint. Having to choose between the soup of the day and the (drool) house chips is difficult, but always get the soup. The day we were there the Potato-Leek soup was bowl-licking worthy. The lunch trio ($14.00) allows a sampling of a panini or sandwich, the soup or salad, and chips. The service was attentive and efficient."

  • "This converted schoolhouse is full of antigues, clothes and home furninshings. Don't let the sale things fool you. The gem of this place is the beautiful decor and amazing food. Everything we ordered was excellent. The combination of ingredients was smart and tasty. Our waitress was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. She made some great recommendations and we followed her lead and were not disappointed. Save time to shop around after you dine."

  • "great staff. I had made reservation via on line, under special occasion I had written anniversary. Even told the waitress. But nothing was done. I felt it odd, why ask for special occasion. We ordered the fried green tomatoes, it looked like they were a little over cooked. I ordered the salmon. I was surprised that it was farm raised. When it came out, it was kinda burnt, but ate it anyway. It was a very nice portion. We order the half salad, only the second time I had order a half salad. The first time the lettuce was crisp, and the home made dress was fantastic. So we tried it again, we both felt the lettuce was ok, and the dressing was ok. My wife ordered the chicken, she thought it was fine, but did not care for the sauce."

  • "My daughter & I dined here, for lunch, before a performance at the Kaufman Center. We were taken care of promptly and food delivered quickly. We were done in 45 minutes and had plenty of time to browse in the shops and then on to our show. The food was awesome and so good. The pretzel rolls, before our meal, were so good. They brought out butter, that was soft, to spread and made it even better!"

  • "We were not impressed with the Webster House. The food choices were not that great & certainly weren't worth the price paid. We both commented that we had eaten better steak & chicken at Texas Road House and other chain type establishments. We would not recommend this restaurant to anyone."

  • "It has become a tradition among 4 friends to celebrate each of our birthdays at Webster House. A special occasion needs a special place to celebrate. Webster House is that place for us. Our tradition involves eating our lunch (with dessert), visiting and catching up, and then going downstairs to see what we can't live without. Everyone who works there is so friendly and helpful and after so many years of coming here, they seem like old friends. We always look forward to celebrating the next birthday."

  • "We had never been to the Webster House but, upon a colleague's recommendation, we took a couple who is just moving (from another country) to the Kansas City area. The meal, service, and ambience were excellent."

  • "I usually only come here once or twice a year, as it is a "special occasion" sort of place. It's pricey, but the food is always tasty and tastefully presented and the wait staff is attentive. And you can't beat the uniqueness of the locale, which is a big part of the experience. Leave time to wander around downstairs before or after your meal — it adds to the experience."

  • "This has become our annual birthday celebration lunch spot. We plan to continue the tradition. It's such an enjoyable experience. Everything is wonderful."

  • "The Webster house is one of those places you leave and tell all your friends about. They take Classic American dishes and make them their own. I would recommend this place to anyone. From traditionalists to modern foodies, The Webster House has something for everyone. A place that is sure to impress."

  • "I treated my good friend for her birthday last Saturday evening at the Webster House. This was my first dining experience and I intend to return many times. The atmosphere was cozy, quiet, and comfortable. The servers were wonderful and helpful with suggestions. And! the dinner and desserts were delicious. I was so happy to have enough for a take home box! I especially enjoyed browsing the shops."

  • "This is truly our favorite KC fine dining restaurant for many reasons and occasions. We love the trio of spreads, the filet, and my husband tried the pasta special - all was delicious and so wonderfully flavored. We will certainly return (many) more times!"

  • "I think that the Webster House makes the baddest Bloody Mary in town!!! I had the fish taco lunch item and it was very good. And so were the dinner rolls (pretzel rolls?)"

  • "this is a difficult restaurant to get into when the performing arts scene at the Kauffman Center is busy. In the summer, it's easier to reserve a table and it's worth it. The atmosphere and food is always pleasing, if a little expensive."
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "This is a very nice place to lunch with a friend. Great food, nice dining areas. The noise level makes it difficult to have conversation."
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "Beautiful venue in an old school house now converted into an antique store and restaurant. I have eaten there multiple times and the food has never been anything less than spectacular. What is offered on the menu will change depending on the season and what is available locally. The service is consistently good. Decent wine selection and our servers are always able to assist us in choosing a good bottle or glass. It is close to the theaters if one is attending a performance. One of KC areas best places to eat (and an independent restaurant to top it off!)."
