Our waitress was inattentive and seemed very bored. The concept that an empty water glass requires filling seemed foreign. Food was reasonably good however."

  • "We had a delicious southern lunch here: shrimp and grits, pecan pie--all made with fresh ingredients, all with a twist, all delicious. The strawberry rhubard cocktail was also yummy. The orders were sometimes a little mixed up coming out of the kitchen but the staff realized the mistakes readily and more than made up for them, completely without attitude."

Our table was right next to the door where the waiters and waitresses went in and out so was a bit distracting if you are looking for something a bit more intimate. We had Sunday brunch. The menu had a fairly good selection of brunch items. We will return!"

  • "We had a dog visiting from out of state and we were looking for a restaurant with outdoor seating that would accommodate our pet. The Weathervane was very accommodating. The even brought Ajax his own water bowl. The food was delicious as always. Three of us had the kale salad with either shrimp or chicken. The other person had the special menu. He especially enjoyed the RC Cola braised beef. We would be happy to go back there again. We always like the Weathervane!"

  • "The food and service were both excellent and never vary. Five women went for a birthday celebration lunch. We were seated at a round table in the far room. The noise level was unbearable and frankly ruined the lunch for our group. I have excellent hearing and could barely hear what the woman across the table was saying. Next time I will request NOT to be in that room, and to have a booth which is infinitely quieter. They really need to do something about the noise in that room. It makes an otherwise lovely lunch into a torturous experience."

  • "We went for brunch and found the brunch menu oddly un-brunchy. There's no omelet or waffle on the menu. Your best bet is to cobble a little meal together from the appetizers and sides. The champagne we ordered was flat. No bubbles. We had to request un-flat champagne. Really unacceptable. When champagne goes flat pour it out and open a new bottle. Service was indifferent. Does anyone there know how to smile?"

  • "The new management of A Southern Season has obviously cut costs everywhere. This is no more obvious than in the lunch offerings at the Weathervane. The formerly excellent salad trio has been cost reduced to basically chicken salad with a side of weeds. Gone are the excellent shrimp salad and pasta salad. Of course the price remains the same. We drove the 30 miles to Durham to meet friends from Tennessee at the Weathervane for a special lunch. We were disappointed."

  • "We read that the Weathervane was great for brunch. We experienced something different. We sat for almost 15minutes before a drink order was taken. Then it took alot longer to get the drinks. Waiter was never around to refill our drinks. Chicken salad on crossiant came out and it only had 6 chunks of chicken. They brought us out more. Not worth the money we spent."

One of the reasons we enjoyed going there was the originality of the menu items. This time the menu was very limited and the selections somewhat uninspired. If this is typical of the summer months we will avoid going there during the summer season."

  • "I'm not sure how The Weathervane was put in the category of the 100 best brunches in the country. My meal was just awful. The housemade French Toast was small. I was expecting brioche bread not bread that appeared part of a loaf sandwich bread from the grocery store. I could deal with the small portion but this was flavorless and blah. I left hungry and stopped elsewhere on my way home. Another at the table ordered eggs benedict and was not happy with that either. Another ordered the crab cake and was not impressed. I had eaten at The Weathervane in the past about three years ago and do not remember an issue with the food so maybe the quality has just gone downhill in the last few years. All I know is I will not return after today's visit."

  • "I was looking for a great brunch spot that served eggs Benedict for my mom's birthday. I was recommended here and one other place. The person bosted about how wonderful the eggs Benedict were here. She is a foodie so I took her word for it. Maybe my hopes were too high. Because nothing was good about my meal. I asked for my poached eggs to be runny, they were hard. Their version of Canadian bacon is like an over cooked tough pork chop. There was hardly any hollandaise sauce. The muffin was saturated in butter & over cooked. And its as if they don't know what salt is at this place. I never add salt to anything. I definitely did here. I ended up throwing away half my meal because I was not happy with it. Nor the 2 other people that got it ."
