I've been a customer of A Southern Season since the early 80's. I'm all for change but the recent ones since being sold are just disappointing. I always took out of town friends but rarely do now. This brunch was to celebrate the birthday of a dear friend and my mom. The food was delicious but otherwise our whole experience was not good from reservation to exit. I've sent this feedback to Weathervane but haven't heard a response. It took over 10 minutes to get someone to acknowledge our presence at our table and after that we had to flag down server after server for water, coffee, to order, to get our check. I still don't know who our server was. Weathervane is a destination and I've loved it for years. I will now hesitate to return.

I have dined here on numerous occasions. I took out of town visitors to lunch and they enjoyed their meals as did I. I had the Parmesan Fritters as an appetizer and they were scrumptious. The hostess and our waitress were attentive, polite and helpful. We dined outside and the ambiance was fine, however, because of the time of year the bees were a nuisance. This of course was no fault of the restaurant. It would be helpful for the host to let us know when we were choosing whether to dine in or out, that the bees were out in full force.

Although I made the reservation on Friday a.m., the restaurant didn't seem to know about it and we did not get one of the better outside tables. There are about 8-110 tables along the wall under the pergola that were so much better and they were full, but I find it hard to believe that all that many people should have had preference to our reservation. I think something fell through the cracks. Thankfully we had a wonderful server who was perfect and the food was good. But this was a business meeting lunch and I would have preferred a quieter table - not one in the middle of the patio.

Weathervane, associated with Southern Seasons, is one of the few places to get decent food during the off hours between lunch and dinner. There is a limited afternoon menu available even though the website states that the brunch menu is available until 5PM (it actually stops at 3 PM). The food was reasonably good and moderately priced, although not extraordinarily imaginative. Again, we were only able to choose from a limited list of selections at the time we went, so this may be the reason. Also a reasonably good selection of microbrews and wines by the glass.

I have always loved The Weathervane and think that the latest recreation of its outdoor dining experience is fantastic. Very comfortable with both sunny and shady spots, along with a cheerful water feature. Unfortunately, in the past 5 or so years, I find that the food is largely disappointing. The legendary almond chicken salad seems to be made with yoghurt (?) - way too creamy and somehow manages to dull the good taste of the chicken salad itself. Curried tuna is good. Quiche is very poor. We sat and had a bottle of wine and a wonderful time, attended by an excellent, attentive waiter who made up for any disappointments in the food.

As out of towners we were recommended to this restaurant by a local friend for a nice dinner. I have an allergy to garlic (I know, horrible right) and immediately told the waiter that I would need help selecting something from the menu that could be tweaked and cooked without garlic.I am not a demanding diner. I realize that many dishes on the menu cannot be made to order. The waiter assured me that he would ask the chef and get back to us. To make a long story short, after being ignored by the first waiter & and told by a second that I could only have salmon and salad without dressing, my annoyed husband went to speak to the manager& the chef finally agreed to make "anything" I wanted without garlic. It was not a pleasant experience.

We arrive and we were offered a choice of the two worse tables right next to the kitchen. We decline so were put in the other room which is quieter but way too cold. Our waitress was inattentive and seemed very bored. The concept that an empty water glass requires filling seemed foreign. Food was reasonably good however.

We had a delicious southern lunch here: shrimp and grits, pecan pie--all made with fresh ingredients, all with a twist, all delicious. The strawberry rhubard cocktail was also yummy. The orders were sometimes a little mixed up coming out of the kitchen but the staff realized the mistakes readily and more than made up for them, completely without attitude.

Our food was good! It wasn't spectacular but a bit above average. The atmosphere was nice. We sat outside. Our table was right next to the door where the waiters and waitresses went in and out so was a bit distracting if you are looking for something a bit more intimate. We had Sunday brunch. The menu had a fairly good selection of brunch items. We will return!

We had a dog visiting from out of state and we were looking for a restaurant with outdoor seating that would accommodate our pet. The Weathervane was very accommodating. The even brought Ajax his own water bowl. The food was delicious as always. Three of us had the kale salad with either shrimp or chicken. The other person had the special menu. He especially enjoyed the RC Cola braised beef. We would be happy to go back there again. We always like the Weathervane!

I think Weathervane provides an upscale environment with good food, good menu, good service at a reasonable price. The food and service were both excellent and never vary. Five women went for a birthday celebration lunch. We were seated at a round table in the far room. The noise level was unbearable and frankly ruined the lunch for our group. I have excellent hearing and could barely hear what the woman across the table was saying. Next time I will request NOT to be in that room, and to have a booth which is infinitely quieter. They really need to do something about the noise in that room. It makes an otherwise lovely lunch into a torturous experience.

We went for brunch and found the brunch menu oddly un-brunchy. There's no omelet or waffle on the menu. Your best bet is to cobble a little meal together from the appetizers and sides. The champagne we ordered was flat. No bubbles. We had to request un-flat champagne. Really unacceptable. When champagne goes flat pour it out and open a new bottle. Service was indifferent. Does anyone there know how to smile?

    Dined on 8/11/2014
The new management of A Southern Season has obviously cut costs everywhere. This is no more obvious than in the lunch offerings at the Weathervane. The formerly excellent salad trio has been cost reduced to basically chicken salad with a side of weeds. Gone are the excellent shrimp salad and pasta salad. Of course the price remains the same. We drove the 30 miles to Durham to meet friends from Tennessee at the Weathervane for a special lunch. We were disappointed.

We read that the Weathervane was great for brunch. We experienced something different. We sat for almost 15minutes before a drink order was taken. Then it took alot longer to get the drinks. Waiter was never around to refill our drinks. Chicken salad on crossiant came out and it only had 6 chunks of chicken. They brought us out more. Not worth the money we spent.
