Terrific food, fun vibeWe had a business lunch here and loved it - the food was fantastic, the seats are comfortable, and the decor and ambience just right. Service was very efficient and friendly. It has the feel of an English country pub but the food is more upmarket, of course. Really a great venue for just about anything, and one of the few gems in this part of the city.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent foodOur food was delicious and beautifully presented. We all liked our meals. Service was excellent until we ordered coffee, which I had told my dining companions was excellent. Cups were delivered but no coffee for an inexplicably long time. We flagged a staff member who went to check on it and as she left, our waiter delivered the french press coffee. They apologized for the delay and comped us the coffee. I'll still lunch here - it's great food - though I'll speak up earlier should there by any future delays.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic food!We took friends from out of town.....wonderful experience from the minute we walked in the door. It's our third visit and we will definitely be returning!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMVery accomudating for kids!My boys had a blast here and we really enjoyed food. The flower was a real nice touch for Mothers Day. Thanks!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMSF GemWe found this restaurant on SF's 38 places to eat. Wonderful choices. We ordered the poutine, fried chicken, veal schnitzel, grilled asparagus, and baked macaroni and cheese. I loved all the dishes except the fried chicken. There was some herb that was overpowering. I read about it from other diners in reviews of this restaurant. We plan to return to try other dishes.
As far as the service, the front staff could be more attentive, and the waitstaff could make us feel like they wanted us there.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of my Fav in SFWayfare Tavern, has never disappointed! Food and service was excellent. A wonderful meal and place to celebrate Mother's day!
A must have is the fried chicken and hamurger!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways perfect!Food is always fresh and seasonal, music background is lively, drinks are yummy, waitstaff is always there for you but doesn't rush you through!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMBest RestaurantThis place is amazing. My fiance and I went here on our engagement night. They took extra care of us once they found out it was a special occasion. This last time we went, it was just for a good meal. The manager came over to check on our meal and remembered us from our engagement evening. This is 3 months after the engagement. He was very gracious and congratulated us once again. Now that is service! This is such a great restaurant from the service to the food. Don't miss out.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMTyler always deliversTyler & the Wayfare Tavern create a short, but fantastic menu. It offers a few standard amazing items, but continue to swap out some new items that never disappoint. The wine list is a great combination.
The food is just off the charts.
Thanks for yet another stupendous experience!5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMSan Francisco VacationBeing somewhat of a "foodie" I wanted to try Tyler's restaurant. Dined there the evening of 5/6/13. The staff was very accommodating, especially with regard to food allergies. LOVED the popovers -- a nice alternative to a heavy roll or bread. I ordered the filet (medium rare). The first medallion was slightly tough, but the other two were very well prepared/cooked and were very tender. Had the crispy brussel sprouts. Although good, they were slightly burned.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMLunchThe staff was pleasant and attentive, refilling our water and replenishing our bread. (Which are fantastic!) My guest and I ordered the Organic Fried Chicken and it was delicious! Generous portions and succulent pieces. As a side, we ordered the Mac and Cheese -- Best mac and cheese ever! Rich and Creamy. Still craving it. :)4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMPower Lunch or Just LunchEither way you cut it (power lunching or just lunching with friends), Wayfare Tavern hits the spot for anyone looking for a modern, stylish but understatedly so, lunch spot downtown. From the moment you walk in, you sense that this is a place of serious food, but not overly serious attitudes. Wine list is solid, and our waiter was clearly well-educated in making just the right suggestions for both drink and meal. The lunch menu made it difficult to pick just one thing, everything sounds so bone-achingly good. Steak tartare and butter lettuce salad are not to be missed, and the Rose (waiter's pick) was perfectly crisp and refreshing. I will be coming back here again... and again.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, great ambiance.Great food, great ambiance. Would definitely go back4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMLove this place!!Love the Wayfare Tavern!!! Dined on a Sunday Night. Everything was great!! Parking really easy!! Our second time dining there, will def be back!!4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMOur server did an amazingOur server did an amazing job, was clearly a professional. The restaurant was impeccably clean. Ambiance was very cool - kind of an upscale hunting lodge/barbary coast thing going on. Pop-overs were delicious. We shared two appetizers, two entrees, a side, and a dessert:
Poutine - Hearty, tasted very much like a beef stew.
Kobe Tartare - AMAZING. Stand-out dish of the evening.
Sweet Pea Ravioli - Delicious! Tasted like eating a garden, if that makes any sense.
Fried Chicken - Lives up to its reputation. Juicy, crispy. The fresh herbs in the batter added a very unique touch.
Brussels Sprouts - Perfect. Exactly what we TRY to achieve whenever we make them at home.
Mint Chocolate Chip - Outstanding. Fresh mint ice cream.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I went here onMy wife and I went here on recommendation from a friend for our Anniversary. Everything was wonderful!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent dining experienceFrom the drinks to the appetizers through dinner and into the dessert; Wayfare Tavern did not disappoint. The service was excellent and very attentive and believe me you will want to have more than one of those popovers. Definitely make reservations.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful time atWe had a wonderful time at Wayfare Tavern. The food was excellent, the wait staff was superb and the overall ambience was terrific.
We will definitely go back!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMIn my view the restaurantIn my view the restaurant deserves 4 full stars for the food, service, ambiance and pricing. One star goes off due to: 1) the salt content should be significantly reduced in some dishes (Black Cod in particular) considering the growing awareness of grave health risks;2) brioches served in lieu of bread appear to be out of place at dinner time;3) the volume of music should be lower to facilitate communication at the table;4) patrons should be warned that street parking is not free on Sundays in this area of San Francisco. The above mentioned drawbacks do not significantly diminish the overall positive impression of the eatery and I certainly will return myself and will recommend it to friends.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were late due to traffic,We were late due to traffic, and still got seated. The service and food was amazing. We ordered the steamed mussels as starters, main course we ordered the filet and ribeye. As for dessert we ordered the panna cotta. All four dishes was really good and cooked perfectly, it is definitely a place we will visit again.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent! One of the best for old-fashioned American food with imaginative, well-executed twists. The coconut panna cotta dessert is divine, fried chicken is perfect. Efficient friendly wait staff. We'll be back.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMClassy atmosphere, superbClassy atmosphere, superb food, busy and crowded, but always worth returning for more.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was very good. OrderedFood was very good. Ordered standard fare but with Tyler Florence's flair everything was delicious. Try the deviled eggs - to die for.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love the restaurant. TheWe love the restaurant. The food is amazing and the service wonderful. I'm always so pleased to see the managers/owners coming to the tables to pour water and refresh our drinks. Overall I love the decor but on this visit we were seated upstairs and all the tables were so close together. I felt uncomfortable having a conversation with my husband. The couple at the next table started telling us where we had to visit in Chicago. Also the server had a hard time getting around to the side of our table. I had people reaching over me to pour water.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic as always. SatFantastic as always. Sat at the Chef's counter - my favorite spot. The only way it could have been a better experience is if we had seen Tyler Florence.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food and the serviceAmazing food and the service was exceptional. Jasmine had great recommendations and didn't let us down.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AM-- and tyler was onsite!Wayfare Tavern lives up to its billing -- American dishes elevated. We ordered off the ala carte menu. Portions are large. This is certainly not a problem or a criticism for myself, but the appetizers and entrée could have been split for my two co-diners. Each dish is well executed. The dining experience also lives up to billing -- the boisterous crowd fits a upscale tavern. An overall excellent experience.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of our faves!!Simple and rustic, Tyler Florence offers everyday Americana with a twist. Poutine was bumped up with an oxtail gravy and some shaved truffles; grits had pine syrup to make it a sweet/savory treat; the tartar came with popover points (!!!!); and the fried chicken comes with roasted garlic and lemon rounds.
Did I mention that instead of rolls, they serve popovers?
The only real complaint is that it's very crowded and we waited a while for our table, but that just means everyone else loves this restaurant as much as we do.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best meals we'veOne of the best meals we've ever had and our server and staff were super friendly and attentive. The smoked cheesecake dessert was out of this world!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe deviled eggs were quiteThe deviled eggs were quite memorable as was the beef tartare! They were so tasty and surprising! Everyone enjoyed their meal! Thanks and I'll be back!4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBest lunch burger in SFAte at Chef's counter. If you enjoy watching the kitchen work, which I honestly do, request this placement.
Burger is ridiculous.
Changed the Devil'd egg recipe. Now adding curry flavor with bacon. If you like curry, get them. If not, skip.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice atmosphere, goodVery nice atmosphere, good service. The food was very good.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMTavern was filled on a SundayTavern was filled on a Sunday night with a mixed crowd of young and older diners. Short menu and long wine list of excellent and some unusual wines. Description of menu items was spot on. Brown Pear, Red Endive and hazelnut salad was bautiful and tasty. Black cod was moist and outstanding. I would say the menu offers "comfort food". My wife had the fried chicken, and she had some difficulty eating it, but only becaue she wouldn't pick it up with her fingers! Outstanding popovers were served instead of the usual bread.
Service was attentive and not obtrusive. Our server knew the menu and wine list, so I appreciated that help.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMBest meal that we have hadBest meal that we have had for a very long time, thank you for the wonderful night!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAn hour wait for our tableAn hour wait for our table even though we had a reservation was very frustrating; however I think the restaurant knew that there would be a delay since appetizers were brought to us a the bar while we waited. An hour is really too much, and when we finally sat down it took at least 40+ minutes to have 2 salads and some oysters for our first course. We were the last table in the restaurant (having to settle with the Valet before we were close to finished since his shift was over). Ultimately the food and service were both excellent, it's the time it took for everything that really set the tone of the evening. I would go back, but only if I had a 7:00 reservation to ensure I wasn't still eating dinner at 11:00pm.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat meal accompanied byGreat meal accompanied by excellent service. Pointed out to our server that out chicken was still a little pink and she offered to replace it right away. Our wonderful server recommended the chocolate creme pie for dessert and ended up taking it off of our bill. All in all a great dining experience and I would gladly return.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner was outstanding. WeDinner was outstanding. We were recommended by friends to have the Organic Fried Chicken and the Wayfare Burger. Was not disappointed in either entre recommendation and was surprised by the large amount of food served. Service was great and we were seated within 5 minutes of our 8pm reservation. However the restaurant was very noisy especially downstairs. However we were seated upstairs and were a little insulated from the noise. We loved dinner would certainly go back again. Very enjoyable experience.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food - service pushedWonderful food - service pushed it over the top - will definitely return next time I am in San Francisco!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMMarvelous!Absolutely loved this restaurant. The food was amazing but my favorite item was the oxtail poutine. Delicious. Service was impeccable. Will definitely be coming back and recommending the restaurant to others.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, service, but toughGreat food, service, but tough to hear people at my own table for the noise level in the restaurant. Have dined here several times for lunch and this is a consistent problem4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMNever disappoints! The food here is always very consistently fabulous. I have never come here and had a bad experience. I will have to say the service here is 2nd to none. The staff make every experience I have here one to remember. The burger with egg and the fried chicken is a must-have. Either or of course. The deviled eggs and the brussel sprouts I must recommend.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved this "English" pub!Loved this "English" pub! If it weren't for the poor service we experienced at the little bar upstairs it would have been fabulous. We spoke to the manager and he comped one round of Gin and Jelly signature drinks which were excellent.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was excellent but weFood was excellent but we wondered why some people who arrived after us got served before we did and left sooner.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMhttp://www.worldtasters.net/2013/04Beyond drinks, Tyler and his crew know how to make you feel welcomed with their unlimited warm popovers on your bread plate (my first time having a popover – I think I’m addicted)! Everything was well thought out. The lunch menu featured a lot of California ingredients like fresh dungeness crab, grass fed beef from local farms. His most popular dish is his fried chicken with a buttermilk brine. I ordered the Dungeness Crab Louie, a simple salad wedge with chunks of crab meat and bacon. Siddharth ordered Florence’s Le Grand burger with smoked bacon and brie which appeared to be a mountain on his plate. Although it’s difficult to really make a burger more perfect than it already is, this burger was definitely grand.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic Service!Had fantastic service with delicious food! Service was impeccable, had a wonderful time for lunch with my girlfriends after a morning of shopping!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic evening out withFantastic evening out with my friends from Chicagowas made even better by the amazing staff, delicious food, and pub side visit from Tyler Florence! Thank youfor a great evening and fine food!3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWe took our friends thereWe took our friends there for their anniversary & had a great time. It's not a quiet place & it was packed on a Wednesday night so a lot of people must think it's a place to be. The food was very good & our server was very professional but had a good sense of humor as well.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMone of my most favorite placesone of my most favorite places to dine and is definitely a special place to take close friends and partners.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Wayfare Tavern came highlyThe Wayfare Tavern came highly recommeded and we expected a good experience. Great waiter and wait staff.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMOur group of 4 stopped inOur group of 4 stopped in for lunch before heading to Fort Mason for a wine tasting event. We shared 4 or 5 appetizers and 3 entrees. All were very good. My favorite was the lamb carpaccio. Our server was excellent. I will definitely go back.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
