A word from Wayfare Tavern
Chef Tyler Florence brings his passion for high quality and style to San Francisco with his new flagship restaurant, Wayfare Tavern. A classic San Francisco Tavern featuring authentic American dishes inspired by local cuisine at the turn of the 20th century, the menu ranges from classic comforts to rustic delicacies. The beverage menu features locally-sourced wines including a selection of Florence's own label, quality draft beers and organic root beer as well as classic Victorian-era cocktails.

All three floors of the restaurant have been designed keeping historical accuracy in mind making Wayfare Tavern reminiscent of a Victorian parlor and an Edwardian men's club, where anything goes from black-tie to blue jeans. Pull up a stool to the Chef's Counter at the open kitchen and look on as Chef prepares your lunch or head to the Library and Billiard Room for a game of pool. Wayfare Tavern is a truly unparalleled dining experience translated from a century ago. Photo: John Lee.

Had a wonderful dinnning experience Thursday night at the Wayfair Tavern. Our party of four sampled the octupus, deviled eggs, and the avocado salad for apps along with the popovers that come with the experience. Then we went on to the main course, fried chicken, scallops, and a pork dish. The food was spot on, cooked to perfection very flavorful along with a very good presentation. The wait staff was also very professional and did not miss a beat. There are many places to eat in SF and this one should be on everyones bucket list.

$20 for a nothing special cheeseburger and very small cardboard container of fries?? Among the orders for the three of us, there was nothing that would bring us back. 2 cheeseburgers, a chopped salad, small pototo chip/French onion appetizer, 2 beers, ice tea and three coffees for $150?? Nah!!!

A friend loved this restaurant so we had high expectations. We were seated in a booth downstairs which we loved because it felt very private. Service was prompt and efficient. We thought the menu would have more Southern flavors, but instead is a mix. We loved the vegetable poutine and deviled eggs. Popovers were cold, asked for fresh ones, they were also cold. Fried chicken was good, but not great. Homemade doughnuts fantastic. All in all, I think there are many better restaurants in this price range.

We were in SF and looked on Open Table for a lunch recommendation. Wayfarer Tavern was very convenient to our hotel location and sounded good. The building is nicely remodeled. The menu uninspired bough some of the descriptions were better than the actual food. There were some serving miscommunications but nothing major. The support staff handed us dessert Menus after clearing out appetizer plates but before our main courses were served (not at all a big deal) and my husband'so salad had bacon at the bottom of the bowl after he ordered it without bacon. The doughnuts ordered by another table looked AMAZING but we didn't have dessert that day. I would probably go back but there are so many amazing restaurants in the city that I may not.

We were a large table entertaining clients in San Fran. While waiting downstairs for our reservation we ordered drinks from a very overwhelmed bar. The waitress took 3times to just get a simple vodka club soda correct, and that was just mine... After moving us upstairs to a private room which was perfect, our service improved. The food was just ok, but had some issues. The burger was rare, and a few other things across the table. The Mac and cheese was OUTSTANDINGLY! The fried chicken was yummy too. Overall all I wanted more from my Tyler Florence restaurant experience

We came to this restaurant for a birthday dinner in hopes of having a nice celebratory dinner. Our server was horrible! Mis-represented the restaurant by not knowing enough about the food and not able to accurately describe them, or whether particular wines were available or not, and it took at least 30 minutes between each course on a two top while the other tables around us were served promptly. It was if he had it out for us from the very moment we sat down. Never felt welcomed and left with a bad taste in our mouths over the entire experience. When we addressed the manager on duty that evening he seems ambivalent to the whole situation and seemed to care less that we had such bd service. Will never return!

Sunday morning, October 12, my husband and I decided to have for lunch since they open at 11:30. We had visited Wayfare a year ago and loved the food - and the experience. This time we were very disappointed. The wait staff was ambivalent, one waiter was almost to the point of being rude, and the food was sub-par. We ordered the fried chicken. Knowing that good fried chicken takes some time to prepare, we were patient, but it was a long wait. The dark meat pieces with bone were undercooked and not edible. I politely tried to explain my disappointment to the waiter, who didn't respond. They had no mashed potates, either, and told us they had not had time to prepare them. Was the poor service and sub-par food a result of a tired staff?

After much anticipation, my wife & I experienced Tylers flagship restaurant to an underwhelming experience. Found the appetizers too big - even for sharing with no steering help from the waiter.... We ordered the Devil Eggs & Seared Octopus, thought that the waiter could have mentioned that it might be too much for two to share.... Same experience for the entree's, they certainly can be shared, my wife ordered the Fried Chicken which is alot of food for one person, I had the scallops - they were served on the cold side.... Best thing of the night - Donuts - they were awesome Recommendation - Go to the bar, have a glass of wine and order the donuts!

WT has been a special restaurant for my husband and I for the past four years. We made a reservation for my birthday and our ten year anniversary as well as our three year wedding anniversary which all fall on the same day. This has been a tradition for us since I proposed to him in WT four years ago. On this very special occasion, the hostesses haughtily told us that our table wasn't ready, but would be in five minutes. We stood in the way at the hostess desk, maneuvering around exiting guests and waitstaff. After asking about our table for the last time at 9.20, we were told it would be more than a ten minute wait. We waited until 9.30 and left; were we extremely hungry; I am eight months pregnant and needed to get up at 5 the next morn.

Overall I would say that Wayfare tavern is a nice place to have drinks or dinner. The noise level is very high and we found it difficult to carry on our conversation at times. The food was good but my food was not cooked as requested. The menu is relatively diverse and you can probably find whatever you are looking for or something close to it. The service was average and at times we were looking for our waiter. The other staff were very attentive and helpful. Definitely recommend if going out with friends but if this is a romantic date or first date, you might consider somewhere else.

One of our dinner guests entrees was not brought out until long after everyone else was served. And once they were served their scallops were raw and they had to wait even longer. Not at all what was expected from this establishment. The wait staff was not congenial to begin with and this event didn't appear to nick their armor.

And secret: It's even better leftover :) The poutine with Oxtail was unbelieveable. And the popovers! My goodness. What a fun way to start the meal. No room for dessert but we left completely satisfied! Can't wait to come back to try the burger...

This was one of my favorite places that I could always rely on to bring friends. Unfortunately this visit was a real disappointment and I won't be back as long as this menu is in effect. There used to be some interesting appetizers and sides that were must haves, ie the brusssel sprouts and the balsamic appetizer. These greats are gone from the menu and what's left is - boring. I had trouble ordering sides because there was so little to choose from and the one I used to love, the mac and cheese, was bland and lacked texture. I've had some amazing meals here, but this menu is now completely lackluster. My husband did really enjoy his lobster and the fried chicken was perfect as usual, but beyond that there was nothing to rave about.

We live only a few blocks away. It's very much like a bar, stylistically, and has a bit of a meat-oriented menu that changes quarterly. But the food is truly excellent. We had a very nice meal matched with a very good sauvignon blanc. Quite enjoyable. Some of the other tables were loud, but this reflects the bar-like atmosphere. But it is still easy to talk.

Tyler Florence has guts, serving poutine on is menu and having an hungry french Canadian craving Poutine. His was perfect, the Oxtail was buttery and melting in my mouth, the vegetable base sauce was simply sublime and the dosage of the light cheddar was to die for. We also had half a lobster with some Oysters (again, the oyster we're all from Canada). What can I say about the donuts that we had for desserts: simply out of this world. My favorite meal I had in 5 days in San Francisco.

Just to see the precision of how this staff works and the pride in which each and every dish was prepared just made our evening so special. And of course what we heard of the fried chicken was absolutely true, AMAZING!!!! Don't forget to make reservations ahead since this is really a hot spot. Will be back when in San Francisco.
