A word from Wayfare Tavern
Chef Tyler Florence brings his passion for high quality and style to San Francisco with his new flagship restaurant, Wayfare Tavern. A classic San Francisco Tavern featuring authentic American dishes inspired by local cuisine at the turn of the 20th century, the menu ranges from classic comforts to rustic delicacies. The beverage menu features locally-sourced wines including a selection of Florence's own label, quality draft beers and organic root beer as well as classic Victorian-era cocktails.

All three floors of the restaurant have been designed keeping historical accuracy in mind making Wayfare Tavern reminiscent of a Victorian parlor and an Edwardian men's club, where anything goes from black-tie to blue jeans. Pull up a stool to the Chef's Counter at the open kitchen and look on as Chef prepares your lunch or head to the Library and Billiard Room for a game of pool. Wayfare Tavern is a truly unparalleled dining experience translated from a century ago. Photo: John Lee.

We love the food at this restaurant, and our server Brian, was outstanding as usual. We visited recently for my wife's birthday. I had contacted the restaurant directly the week previous and told them of the special occasion. They told me they would have a special dessert ready for us. When the time came, the dessert was no where to be found, and never an acknowledgment of the birthday. Very let down and disappointed.

This restaurant, as always, has great food and a nice, not unduly punitive wine list. The fried chicken is great, as advertised. The burger is awesome. I have been here several times and the food is wonderful. This time, however, the service was not great. I ordered a bottle of wine and some appetizers. The wine took almost 20 minutes to come to our table. The appetizers never came. We had ordered some oysters which arrived. When asked about the appetizers later, the waiter claimed he thought we only wanted the oysters even though he had repeated the order to us previously. Our meal wasn't served to us until about an hour and forty five minutes later or so. This is the first poor service I have encountered here and I hope, the last. The comp'd dessert didn't really make up for what happened.

Food and Service was average but with so many outstanding restaurants nearby, I would not recommend this one. The shank portion was way too large and way too greasy for my taste. Tables are really close to each other, you can hear every word being said by other diners.

You won't be seated until your entire party arrives, which is fine, but there's no where to comfortably stand out of the way or get a drink while you're waiting. Our reservation was for 1:15PM on a Friday. Once seated wait staff and water come fairly quickly. Drinks, a coupe beers, took a bit long to arrive. Once you place your order, the waiting starts; we ordered four appetizers, the first two took about 15-20 minutes to arrive. The second two, deviled eggs and Mac 'n Cheese arrived **with the meal**, which took 40-45 minutes to arrive. They completely forgot to bring one of our party his glass of wine. We weren't heads-down, buried in our phones, so we noticed these delays. The food is good, but for some sort of kitchen issue, food doesn't get delivered in order or in a timely manner. The service, not always the same person, even when reminded about missing items forgets and never follows up. For the price, this isn't a place I'd spend my money again, given all the other choices in the city.

This is my 3rd visit to this great supper club! We dropped-in for a quick lunch this time. My wife and I had Wayfare Tavern's staples...oxtail poutine, fried chicken, and the hamachi crudo. The meal was just like settling-in to a comfort food meal...all your favorites with all of the expectations that were met in an instance. The service was excellent and the waiter expedited the meal just enough to ensure that we were able to enjoy our meal, yet get back in time for that afternoon meeting. We'll definitely be back.

This place was PACKED when we went on a Wednesday night at 5:45 and I am so glad we had reservations. Parking was easy because of the valet, but we did need to wait a minute for him to appear. Food was very good, but not particularly fancy. The poutine was my favorite and the oxtail is actually in the poutine, so it could be a light meal for someone if that's all they wanted. I had the burger and my friends had the chicken and the pork shank. Everything was really good, but I think I will get the chicken next time. That seems to be the dish to order. I also had the sour which was wicked good - the best I've ever had. We also had the smores for desert and that had a home-made graham cracker and I really liked the cinnamin ice cream, but my friends found it too cinnamin-y.

Realizing San Fran is an arrogant city, Wayfare is the perfect example. Service was a bit rushed. Catching up with old friends. 10 minutes after sitting down waiter asked if we had decided. We said we needed a few more minutes...30 seconds later, he is back, interupting the conversation. We quickly ordered and when the food came out, it was ok. I had the famous chicken. Tasted as if an entire bag of lemons were i. The batter. It was dry! Just dissapointing overall

We were seated immediately in a requested, large, and comfortable booth Had the fried chicken, burger, salad with green goddess dressing, broccolini, and fries. Everything was fabulous, except for the fries which were average. Loved the doughnuts for dessert. Service was just right. Restaurant was not full, so noise was not an issue. Went on a Sunday, and on street parking was not a problem.

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful experience here. From the ambience, to the service, to the food - everything was top notch and outstanding. This place is foodie heaven. My boyfriend, being from the south, is one of the pickiest eaters when it comes to friend chicken. He and I both agree this was the best we had ever had. The attention to detail with everything we ordered was really impressive. We will definitely be back. My Recommendation: Fried Chicken (the meal is big enough to share.) Deviled Eggs are phenomenal The Chocolate Pie Cake

Great food and atmosphere. Completely negligent service for our table. A neighboring table seated after us received their entrees before we received our appetizers (they had a different waiter). The waiter completely botched one person's order (we opted not to have order corrected as we had already been waiting for a long time), and glasses were left empty for most of the meal. Barely saw the waiter and took entirely too long to receive our food. We were all extremely happy with the food once we received it, but bad service during a business lunch is tough to get over.

Family birthday dinner celebration and always wanted to try Tyler F restaurant. Service was great, decor was interesting but nothing special ..actually odd. Food was only okay. Expected much better given prices....$49 for steak?? Supposedly bacon wrapped and chef decided to try something " new " and instead added pork fatback on the side--concept not well thought out. First announcement server makes are the menu 'changes' which meant three main items were not available and we had an early reservation 6:00. Probably would not have minded as much except one was salmon which our non meat eating daughter had planned to order. Underwhelmed given the prices for food. Had dinner been at least a $100 less might have had a better opinion.

Had a wonderful dinnning experience Thursday night at the Wayfair Tavern. Our party of four sampled the octupus, deviled eggs, and the avocado salad for apps along with the popovers that come with the experience. Then we went on to the main course, fried chicken, scallops, and a pork dish. The food was spot on, cooked to perfection very flavorful along with a very good presentation. The wait staff was also very professional and did not miss a beat. There are many places to eat in SF and this one should be on everyones bucket list.

The entire staff is attentive to delivering superb service from the second you come in the door: the folks at the front of the house who are working hard to get you seated on an ultra busy evening; the attentive and expert bartenders; the highly professional and engaging wait staff (ask for Ricky, although we're sure you would have a similarly excellent experience with other servers); and oh my oh my, the food the kitchen delivers. Luscious oysters and cold lobster from the raw bar. Possibly the best salmon I've had anyplace ever? Can't remember better, anyhow. You already know about the fried chicken. Popovers. Pear sorbet. And share a glass of moscato d'Asti after the meal. So great we came back twice on a 2-day trip!

A friend loved this restaurant so we had high expectations. We were seated in a booth downstairs which we loved because it felt very private. Service was prompt and efficient. We thought the menu would have more Southern flavors, but instead is a mix. We loved the vegetable poutine and deviled eggs. Popovers were cold, asked for fresh ones, they were also cold. Fried chicken was good, but not great. Homemade doughnuts fantastic. All in all, I think there are many better restaurants in this price range.

We were in SF and looked on Open Table for a lunch recommendation. Wayfarer Tavern was very convenient to our hotel location and sounded good. The building is nicely remodeled. The menu uninspired bough some of the descriptions were better than the actual food. There were some serving miscommunications but nothing major. The support staff handed us dessert Menus after clearing out appetizer plates but before our main courses were served (not at all a big deal) and my husband'so salad had bacon at the bottom of the bowl after he ordered it without bacon. The doughnuts ordered by another table looked AMAZING but we didn't have dessert that day. I would probably go back but there are so many amazing restaurants in the city that I may not.

We were a large table entertaining clients in San Fran. While waiting downstairs for our reservation we ordered drinks from a very overwhelmed bar. The waitress took 3times to just get a simple vodka club soda correct, and that was just mine... After moving us upstairs to a private room which was perfect, our service improved. The food was just ok, but had some issues. The burger was rare, and a few other things across the table. The Mac and cheese was OUTSTANDINGLY! The fried chicken was yummy too.
