  • Private Party Facilities: Wayfare Tavern can accommodate various party sizes. The Billiard Room can hold parties up to 16 for playing pool or entertainment or seat 8-16 guests for dining. The Bartlett Room, named for Lt. Washington Bartlett who is responsible for naming San Francisco, is our third floor private dining room that can accommodate up to 50 guests seated or 80 for a standing reception. The centerpiece of this room is the floor to ceiling glass enclosed, temperature controlled wine cellar which offers diners the opportunity to witness the sommelier making wine selections throughout the evening. We can also accommodate full or partial restaurant buy-outs for larger parties.

  • Entertainment: Within our second floor dining room, we have a Billiard Room available for parties up to 16. The room has double pained glass doors and features an antique tin ceiling, vintage red felt pool table. To make ordering easy, the room has a red "hot" phone which direct dials to ordering food and cocktails. Reservations are suggested and the room is available upon availability.

Chef Tyler Florence brings his passion for high quality and style to San Francisco with his new flagship restaurant, Wayfare Tavern. A classic San Francisco Tavern featuring authentic American dishes inspired by local cuisine at the turn of the 20th century, the menu ranges from classic comforts to rustic delicacies. The beverage menu features locally-sourced wines including a selection of Florence's own label, quality draft beers and organic root beer as well as classic Victorian-era cocktails.

All three floors of the restaurant have been designed keeping historical accuracy in mind making Wayfare Tavern reminiscent of a Victorian parlor and an Edwardian men's club, where anything goes from black-tie to blue jeans. Pull up a stool to the Chef's Counter at the open kitchen and look on as Chef prepares your lunch or head to the Library and Billiard Room for a game of pool.   • "Wayfare was, as expected, a delicious experience. I only wish that the waiter(s) didn't constantly swoop in and try to take the plates away before they were finished. Our shared appetizer had a few pieces still left and twice the waiters tried to take it away while we were still enjoying it. The third time, I literally had to scoop the remaining pieces onto my plate while the waiter took it away because I gave up denying him. I realize that they're trying to rush us out of the door to seat more guests, but this was during the 11:30AM - noon timeframe (when we arrived, we were the ~5th diners in the door...the downstairs was still empty). We left after 45 minutes, so I also wouldn't say that we were taking our time. Disappointing."

  • "I typically think of Wayfare Tavern as a top restaurant I would recommend to any out of town visitors. No more. The service was lacking from the minute we walked in. We were there for lunch and there were only a few tables seated, but our server was no where to be found throughout our visit and our food took over an hour to come out (for 3 salads and a fried chicken dish). The fried chicken was still a highlight but the service was so sub par I will definitely turn to the many other fantastic dining options San Francisco has to offer the next time someone asks for a great place to eat."

  • "I made a 1:00 reservation 2 hours prior but read on their website they welcome walk ins. I assumed the 1:00 would be a back up just in case for lunch and with a business part of 4 decided to take our chances and get their at noon. The hostess saw that we had a reservation at 1:00 and despite the request to seat as soon as possible held us to that slot. I felt we could have sat sooner had I not made a reservation. We waited the full hour no bigge since it was good to discuss business before hand, however once we were seated we assumed we would get served at a normal pace seeing the lunch hour was pretty well past. We did not leave until 2:25. That was 3 hours and 25 minutes from our arrival to departure. Little too long for me."

  • "We had lunch at Wayfare Tavern on Wednesday, and unfortunately the service and quality were much less than expected. There wasn't much on the menu that looked healthy or light, so we ordered salads with grilled chicken on top. We waited almost an hour before our salads arrived. The Caesar Salad was the worst I've ever had, mostly tasted like raw egg, not much in the way of flavor at all. I won't recommend going there again."

  • "This was our last night of our California vacation and what a way to spend it! When booking my reservation I shared that in my request and asked to be seated at the "kitchen bar". If you are a party of 2 make sure you do this. Watching the kitchen symphony was amazing. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and even recommended we share a main course because it was so big; so happy we took her advice because we ordered the fried chicken and it had 5 pieces. This allowed us to order a few sides and dessert. The restaurant is tight as far as tables but very eclectic and energizing."

The macaroni was rich and delicious and I had to take most of it home. I was there on my own and enjoyed sitting by the open kitchen watching the chefs at work. So many more things on the menu to try. And the popovers. . . Mmmm. . ."

  • "My husband and I dined at Wayfare late on a Saturday evening after a busy day in SF. We were pleasantly surprised at the "old SF" feel of the restaurant. It was warm, inviting, intimate and pretty. The food was wonderful. The highlights were the delicious fresh oysters and the homemade donuts with 3 relish sauces. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his short ribs. I had the famed fried chicken and although it was good, I would not order it again. There was a LOT of chicken on the plate and no vegs or anything else. Next time I'll try the scallops! The service was outstanding!"

  • "As a huge fan of Tyler I was super excited to dine at this place in San Fran on a recent vacation. I was disappointed by everything. My scallops were salty and too smokey, my boyfriends burger was under cooked, we had to send it back twice. The best part of the whole meal was a salad that we shared. The room was hot.... crammed and we felt like we were literally dining with the table next to us. We didn't get to eat together b/c of the burger incident. Overall just not what we expected from Tyler Florence and his team. I would not go back and I wouldn't recommend."

  • "Everything was FABULOUS! The cocktails were great, the prawn cocktail was outstanding! Fresh, firm, sweet prawns that didn't even need cocktail sauce or lemon. The popovers were delicious and served right out of the oven. The fried chicken was wonderful, really moist inside, with a good crunchy buttermilk breading. The hamburger was cooked perfectly and served with Gruyere on a soft homemade bun. And the chocolate cream pie...OMG, the chocolate cream pie!!! My friend and I had a wonderful time. Our waiter was friendly, informative, and very attentive, and everything was just as good as it could be! Thank you!!!"

  • "Four of us had dinner, each ordered something different than the others. The food was not bad, it was just nothing special.... And the fried chicken was too salty. Servers were confused as to who ordered what so the meals were served incorrectly. Obviously, easily fixed; but it shouldn't happen. Miscommunication regarding sides so we ended up with too many of one thing. Strawberry shortcake was dry, donuts were very good. They do the best they can with seating, but it is a little snug. I hated that the waiter, servers and bussers would rest their hand on the back of my chair when they were at the table. Especially annoying given my sport coat was on the chair. Nothing the dry cleaner can't fix, but they should know better."

  • "Wayfare is close to work so we thought it would be appropriate for a birthday celebration. I've been there on several occasions and the food and service have been very good, and while the fried chicken and mac 'n cheese rock, the service was barely "good". We were rushed by the wait staff; because we were in a large booth (for 6 people) we were constantly handed plates and silverware and asked for them back when we were done. This did not create a very relaxing experience. Our server seemed to be so rushed and distracted that he could barely muster a smile. Also, the people at the end of our booth could not hear what the interior people were saying. As for the birthday boy, he got a "happy birthday" from the server but that was it."

  • "We found it to be generally over-seasoned. The flank stake (ordered medium rare) steak was medium at the least, and the long thin cut of it made most of it well done. It was coated in butter and kind of .. not great. The salmon was very good, but had patches of being very salty. The ceaser salad was good. The deviled eggs were great, and the poutine was authentic. All that said, I expected more. We had dinner at credo the previous night in the same price range/neighborhood, and ... credo was just better. We were visitors to SF so perhaps I'm missing something. The popovers were delicious and they provided plenty of them."

  • "Made reservations but when I got there they didn't have a table for me. We had to sit at the bar. Meanwhile others were sat at tables. Saw a chef mixing steak tartar with a spoon, taste it directly from the spoon and continue mixing with the same spoon he just mouthed. Everyone else's Caesar salad had anchovies except ours. They have us someone else's check. It was just not a good experience. Definitely don't come here for a business lunch unless you don't mind having to sit at the bar despite having made reservations. If you have to come here, I would advise against eating the steak tartar unless you don't mind the chefs saliva in your food."

  • "Our waiter was great...helpful and funny. The food is still good, but not as good as I remembered. The popovers are as delicious as every, the fried chicken was as good as I remembered, but the deviled eggs, poutine, chopped salad were good, but nothing special. The donuts were the best thing we ate. The meal ended very tragically for me...I was washing my hands in the ladies room when the raw sewage backed up and I unfortunately was standing right above the drain pipe and needless to say...it was not good. I think the worst part was the lack of response from the restaurant. No concern or apology. The most sympathetic person was another patron who asked me if I was okay. It was handled very poorly if you ask me."
