Watts GroceryI brought my out-of-town grandparenI brought my out-of-town grandparents to Watt's Grocery, and their high standards were happily satisfied! I thought it was a little pricey, but the food was very good. They especially liked that it was all locally grown, and you could really taste the difference.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time there -- will be back!Excellent alternative to the much-missed Magnolia Grill, and significantly quieter! Excellent food, especially the ribeye and NC fresh fish. Interesting and tasty appetizers, sides and desserts (the malted sundae is to die for!). Wine list is affordable with vintages from sources that you don't see in every other restaurant. Server was knowledgeable about both food and wine selections. Nice atmosphere, busy but not painfully crowded, speedy service. Will definitely go on my list of favorite places in Durham.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderfulOne of the best in Durham. Daily fish is always perfect.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMservice outstandingMy experience was stellar...wait person was very knowledgeable about the prep of the dishes... one in our party was a vegan and was told about what items would be ok for her to eat.... Thank you so much for a very nice lunch one comment...we went online to see the lunch menu and when we arrived the menu was completely different!!!! maybe an update to the web site is in order!!!!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMI am a repeat guest at Nana's.I am a repeat guest at Nana's. It is very consistent. This restaurant is a neighborhood gem. Parking maybe a challenge but the Valet staff members take care of this issue when there is no self parking space.
Thank you for an excellent dining experience.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat local ingredientsMenu changes regularly and includes items from local farms. Love the varied selections. I had the asparagus appetizer with egg and pickled mushrooms and the brined pork loin with collard greens &bacon, and polenta, along with pickle okra and beets. The flavor combinations were wonderful.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat foodWish they would change their menu more often. Second time to eat there in a month. Specials are good but more rotation of main menu is needed. The strawberry rubarb tart was excellent!5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWork lunch! The service was great and the food was pretty AND delicious. We really love the hushpuppies!5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWent to Watts for anniversaryWe love this place and this trip was as good as always. The shrimp/beet salad appetizer was just wonderful. The black bean soup was rich and perfectly cooked. The skin on the sea bass was crispy and not the least fishy. What else can I say....you must eat there!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love Watts Grocery. It'sWe love Watts Grocery. It's our go-to place for special occasions.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was OK. It was fussyThe food was OK. It was fussy as if the kitchen people were trying make
simple fare seem exotic. A Cobb Salad is a salad not an art show.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was great and the serverFood was great and the server was very knowledgable and helpful when we had questions. I would definitely go back and recommend it to others. Only down side was that despite having a reservation, we still had to wait 10-15 minutes past it. That might just be a sign that it is a popular place.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMHow often is something romanticHow often is something romantic but also fit for kids? This restaurant bridges both those disparate groups. We went early (and our kids are used to eating out at 'nice' places) but...if I lived in Durham i'd probably go once a week. Kids had a blast, our server (Alexis) was funny and interacted with them as if they were mini-adults with opinions, food was excellent and described well on the menu and by staff. Well done!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful evening. We had a wonderful evening. Only complaints are that the restaurant become too loud for conversation with a friend 2 seats down, and one of the steaks was way overcooked. Waitress was great, attractive atmosphere.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMService is always excellentService is always excellent here and the food is great also. We were seated right away for our reservation and enjoyed everything we ordered.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is truly outstanding. The food is truly outstanding. Local and fresh ingredients and a seasonally changing menu make Watts one of our Durham favorites. My only gripe would be the cocktails; the taste is underwhelming and for the second time in a row, completely watered down with ice. I'll stick to the wine list in the future.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Service and Great FoodThe food and service always great at Watts Grocery. This is a real gem. I bring all of my visiting co-workers and family here.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAs usual, another terrificAs usual, another terrific meal with friendly service.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a small, lovely, gemThis is a small, lovely, gem of a restaurant with really consistently good service and good food. I've been here on several occasions and had a lovely time on each occasion.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWatts grocery is a hit!!!!!My wife and i love it. i loved the simple menu, i hate choosing, a simple menu helps me greatly. The food portions were just right. The sweet tea was excellent. keep up the good work. One think that i would suggest, please widen your vegetarian choices. We will be back, again, had a grand time.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always, the best!As always, dinner at Watts was the best, especially after being away for several months. The mac and cheese was incredible, paired with the ruby-red grapefruit arugula feta salad, and a nice white wine (i forget which one as we sampled several. We finished it off with the ginger sorbet which was outs the ball park good! Perfect sitting at the bar, and enjoyed Joe's barkeep attention and Amy's nice chat with us - as always, the best.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMAs an out-of-towner in a townAs an out-of-towner in a town without a big culinary scene (I live in San Francisco, by contrast... yes, we can be a bit snobby!) this was a great place to which to take my folks for dinner. The wine list was thin and, worse yet, the wines were served at room temperature. However, the plating and presentation were great and the entries were tasty. My tuna was delicious and not over cooked. I think the clams and white beans would be vastly improved if the mustard used in them were either left out or not a sweet mustard. The sweetness detracted from the delicate clam and savory accompaniment.
Not getting any Michelin stars any time soon but a great find in Durham.2/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBest food in Durham. GreatBest food in Durham. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Food combinations are a culinary delight.1/1/0001 4:00:00 PM
