Diner Reviews
  • "Wow...what can I say. The portions we huge. My husband and I both took home half sized trays of leftovers. The food was very tasty. The lobster mac and cheese hit the spot."

  • "Wide variety of unique food and drink choices. Excellent service. Not really the best spot for kids - the food is much more suitable to an adult palate. (I've hardly ever seen kids here, which is great when you need to step away from home life.) This is gem for couples night."

  • "The Monday-Wednesday Special menu is a fabulous buy. I have eaten at Waterzooi on several occasions, but when its Musselmania night, it is a Dinner to remember."

  • "On returning to this restaurant I was disappointed in the Mussels. They were tiny and not of the best quality. Although the portions are generous, the quality has dropped. I will not be returning."

  • "The crock of mussels were absolutely delicious. A little noisy inside so we were glad we sat outdoors. Will definitely be back."

  • "We were seated immediately. Outstanding beers. Let us taste before we selected the one. Mussels are great. Would come back again"

  • "The bass was so good as well as the mussels.. Really one of the best meals I've had ever!!"

  • "Mussels Mania is a no brainer $22 for an app a pot of mussels and dessert. Delish!!!"

  • "We enjoyed a delicious dinner with great service but the lighting was way too dim and the noise level was crazy loud making it difficult to converse with friends. The bill was so affordable especially considering how much we ate. Great menu choices!!"

  • "Amazing mussels with a large choice of traditional and unique recipes. This was my third visit, I have ordered the "Farmhouse Ale" every time. (I have actually dreamt of that flavor after eating there.) A huge beer menu with very accurate descriptions on tap and bottles focused on Belgium made but many great choices from other locals. Other very notable items, Rib Stuk and the crispy fries & dip that come with the mussels. If you have ever had a real Belgian waffle you know the batter has to be made a day in advance so the batter fills with bubbles and when you cook them the next day they are so lite, airy and crisp on the outside.. Yeah they make "those" for brunch, lunch, dinner and dessert!"

  • "We used to live in Amsterdam and mussels pots are our favorite. They added the flavor something American to it but they were still good. We went for Sunday brunch and ended up staying there till 5 o'clock. Good atmosphere and we will go back again."

  • "The food and wait service at Waterzooi was excellent as always we were very disappointed by our treatment by the person who seated us. She made no effort to accommodate our request for a booth and gave a walk-in the booth we asked about after the people who requested it cancelled (we found out when we left). We sat through our meal feeling like we'd been lied to. It wouldn't have been a big deal to move to that table but it wasn't offered to us. At any rate, it left a bad feeling at a restaurant we've been eating at for over 14 years."

  • "Weekday pre-fix dinner was a good deal, included appetizer, a pot of mussels and dessert for $21.95. I picked the lobster croquette as appetizer, paella mussels (additional $7.00), and triple chocolate mousse as dessert. Great for week night dinner and not too pricey."

  • "We had not been here for years, but the visit was not disappointing! Great Belgian beer selection, which is the draw here, and the oyster menu was outstanding!"

  • "This has become one of our favorite places. It's a cuisine you don't find in a restaurant very often and is worth a visit."

  • "The last time we went for dinner it was much louder, this time was better and we were not rushed at all. Good for mussels and seafood. Great selection of beers!"

  • "Chose the restaurant to celebrate my daughter's 1st wedding anniversary. Food was really good especially the mussels but a bit noisy."

  • "We ate on the outside patio & we had a great seat out of the rays of the setting sun. Unfortunately, we were close to the bar where loud excitement over the World Cup was taking place."

  • "If you like mussels that are clean and free of sand, this is the place to go. We had a very nice lunch with most of us having the mussels. Another table ordered burgers which looked amazing. The service was friendly but remarkably slow when they were not very busy."

  • "Went for dinner on a Sunday. Decided to eat at the bar to watch the game. And glad we did, bartender Nikki was super sweet and helpful with food and also tasting wine&beer (were picky) hostesses were very accompdAting and sweet. Although the food can be inconsistent we will keep coming back. Great service."

  • "We had an enjoyable dinner get-together with friends who had not been in touch for a while, so the restaurant was good at allowing us to sit and catch up. The service was very good, we had a nice table, half in/half out. Not too noisy. I understand mussels are the primary food here, but I was in the mood for a lobster roll and it was a bit disappointing. The fries it came with were excellent. My table mates enjoyed their dinners - crab lump salad and chicken. A good evening with good friends."

  • "After taking out a co-worker for lunch on his last day, everyone invited was absolutely blown away at the terrific beer selection and different menu choices! So, for a combined Father's Day and birthday celebration I made a reservation for last Sunday for my own family. Once again the menu offerings and beer and wine selection satisfied everyone in the party. The appetizers are different: lobster croquettes, sweet potato gnocchi, and escargot was outstanding. The crab mixed salad was light, fresh, subtly flavorful. And the mussel pots were tender, squeaky clean, flavorful and exciting! Thank you, Waterzooi!"

  • "Food was great. Had the huge pot of mussels. We sat out on the patio which was very nice."

  • "Before dining at Waterzooi, I was not a huge fan of mussels. Well, this place converted me as the mussels are to die for! For starters we had the salmon flatbread which we devoured, and for our entree ordered the Moules Pot (pot of mussels) with Paella. Each cast-iron pot contains at least 2 1/2 lbs. of mussels enough for even the heartiest appetite. Each mussel was tender and tasty. We finished our meal with the Creme Brulee which was as delicious as I enjoyed in Paris. Highly recommend this bistro and will be returning soon for the weekday specials."

  • "The Belgian seafood restaurant features Mussel Pots. I especially like the Homard Pot which has a lobster sauce similar to a lobster bisque. The Belgian Beer is great as well. i recommend this restaurant highly."

  • "Good food, mussels were plentiful with a variety of favorable sauces. Noise is the negative here and detracts from the food and fine service"

  • "And everything was delicious. I was impressed at the portion sizes of the entrees and the variety of the different flavors of the mussel pots. My favorite thing we had was the cheese fondue appetizer. "

  • "Food was delcious and unique. Some of the best mussels i've ever had also had the verson of beef stew with apples and prunes. Insanely good and pleasantly different from the normal flavors and pairings. Service was top notch and the wait staff was very courteous."

  • "the drinks were great as ususal. i come here quite often but this was my first time for brunch. the brunch menu was great lots of great selections but i was not happy with the lobster roll. too much mayo and not enough lobster and for $30 i felt i didnt get what I paid for. I could've gotten a better one at panera for half the price. my friend enjoyed her lobster eggs benedict and it looks like she had more lobster than i did on her entree. I still love this place this was my first negative experience in the 4 years i have been coming here. "

  • "I loved the Mussel Mania deal. The food was very good. I would go back for the deal again. However, service was slow. "

  • "Been to Waterzooi many times. Typical Garden City prices, but if you can afford the neighborhood I guess expensive restaurants don't bother you either. They have cheap mussels on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday (which are always delish - I can't argue that), so I sucked it up. Waiter was really great, although there were a few bumps at first (not his fault - salads came out in about 2 seconds, and the drinks not for 10 minutes). Martinis were great, and the beer is really good too. A downside is the acoustics - VERY loud when the place fills up, to the point where you can't hear across the table. Anyway, come for the mussels and the beer. It's worth the trip. On a Tuesday."

  • "I am told if you like mussels they are terrific. My dinner companion had the mussels and loved them. Everything else was just average. I had the lobster cocktail to start. It basically had no flavor. My steak was good not great. The only thing I really liked was the Truffle lobster mac and cheese. It was an appetizer but we ordered it as a side with the main dish. I tried the parts of the paella pot that was not mussels and it was flavorful. I would not go back but again I am not a mussel lover."

  • "Lunch was very good. My dining companion had the chipotle burger and I had the sirloin sandwich. The beer and wine lists looked terrific. We will be back."

  • "If you can deal with the booming from the next door restaurant, the mussels are excellent. I have been here a bunch of tmes and the service depended a lot on which waiter we had. This time he was not very good. selection of beers is excellent F "

  • "The food was excellent, the service was good. Very noisy though and not enough room on the table. We ordered 2 appetizers: 1 order of mussels and 1 order of fondue, it was very tight. Everything we ordered was delicious. We've been there a few times before and will return again - the food is definitely worth it! "

  • "Most weekday nights, Waterzooi has a $22.00 three course special offering mussels in a variety of sauces. Always good, somedays better than others. Same day, I took business guests for lunch, which was excellent."
    Dined on 5/14/2014
  • "This is pretty much why I go there. The lobster roll with truffle fries are beyond delicious. This was the 1st time I tried the mussels and they were ridiculously good! "
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "Eggs benedict with smoked salmon was very good. However, the food was served warm, would have preferred it to be hotter. Instead of potatoes, there should be an option of a salad -- Belgian waffle was very good - should have a little more fruit served with it. Pistachio gelato was delicious. Noise level was very loud!"
    Dined on 5/3/2014
  • "I love this place! So far every mussel pot I had was amazing, I can't wait to go back. Fries are great too!"
    Dined on 4/27/2014
  • "I came here for brunch for my birthday. There was nothing notable about the lobster benedict. it was overpriced and boring. i was expecting to be wowed, and i really wasnt. we had 130 reservations and somehow got seated between people w obnoxious children. this really did not seem like a place that you would expect children to be at-- not impressed. the noise level in this place is honestly obnoxious, so loud you cant hear anything. i would not come back here for brunch.
