Diner Reviews
  • "The view was great on the deck sitting outside. We made reservations through open table. Our table was outside on the deck overlooking the water. It took about 10-15 min before our server came out to us. After we ordered drinks/appetizers, it'd be another 10 min before he came with our drinks. Service was extremely slow and food was mediocre. It could have just been an off night there as I have read many great reviews on the place."

  • "The view from the inside of Shem creek is a plus for Water's Edge. We go there from time to time to enjoy a meal and watch the evening activities on the water. The food is good but not the main attraction. The service is attentive and timely. Go for the view and enjoy a meal."

  • "Even though the menu is listed online, the food was a great surprise. Great selection, wasn't skimping on any food items as a matter of fact the salmon was a delight. Have already recommend this restaurant to friends and family. Great food, even better price."

  • "They accommodate everything we wanted. Even getting a specialty drink which was only served at the outside bar. Great place to eat , and large varied menu. Anything seafood was wonderful."

  • "Go here once a week grouper is the best. Service is always the best. The views are fantastic."

  • "The best thing about this dinner was that we had a table that overlooked Shem Creek. We ordered creme brulee it was over cooked and had the consistency of cottage cheese."

  • "I loved the view of this place. Sits on Shem Creek with so much action to watch dolphins, returning fishing men, paddleboarders and pelicans. The food was good. Lovely Bloody Mary bar. Good looking brunch buffet. Knowledgeable attentive server."

  • "Great brunch..especially the made-to-order omelets! There is not a carving station or dessert, but that would raise the cost which is very reasonable. Great Bloody Mary bar, too! The view on Shem Creek can't be beat and you can take a nice walk on the boardwalk after brunch."

  • "Water's Edge used to be a standby whenever we visited Charleston. This time, I have to say we were greatly disappointed. Our server was incredibly aloof and forgot simple things such as water, bread for the table, and lighting the candle on our table. My future father-in-law asked several times for his glass of wine to be delivered... it came after his dinner had arrived. Later in the evening, an obnoxious party boat came through the canal was was blasting "I'm on a boat mother ---" repeatedly. This was before 10PM. While the food was nice, it was pricey, fair seafood. The dessert was supposed to be peach cobbler, but was essentially a giant piece of bread and some peach chunks, with a tiny ice cream scoop. We will not be returning."

  • "My wife and I visited and we loved everything! Great service and food was excellent. My wife loved the grouper and fried seafood platter was good. Our server was excellent...kind, prompt, and anticipated anything we might want. Nice place to get away and have a date night without the kids."

  • "Had some friends coming into Charleston for the first time. I debated on where to take them for seafood. I decided on Water's Edge as it had been awhile since I had been there and you can't go wrong with the view at Shem Creek. I made the right choice. The food was wonderful. I recommend the Grouper. The service was excellent. Thanks Andrea McCollam for the wonderful service! You can't beat the view. We watched the kayakers, Stand UP Paddleboarders, and boaters going by. The best part was watching the dolphins swimming around in front of us. My friends really liked the restaurant selection and had a great first time Charleston experience!"

  • "Second visit as a local. Food was decent, portions a little small. Scene and ambiance were fantastic though and I think that is what I was paying for."

  • "Very noisy, somewhat grungy - a good steam cleaning would help, waiter was professional and accomodating Requested seat by window where I was seated"

  • "We really enjoy the brunch on Sunday with its something-for-everyone menu. Starts with our favorite, smoked salmon and ends with omelets. Its self-serve, very reasonably priced, kept tidy and stocked. Another plus is that it starts at 10:00am as others start closer to lunch. Should you prefer a burger, theirs is one of the best in town. This is a great restaurant to bring another couple, you can get "downtown" variety menu and not just fish and fries. Try the whole crispy fried flounder, you won't be sorry. Dining outside is our favorite during good weather, just make sure you're under an umbrella and don't feed the birds or they will never leave. Don't overlook the nice selection of wines, you can get very nice ones by the glass."

  • "Manager was visibly mean to his employees, who were doing a fine job. It made us very uncomfortable. We will not be returning."

  • "We went for a graduation celebratory lunch and really enjoyed it. Loved the porch with the view of Shem Creek. The shrimp and grits were excellent. The fish stew was great. Kids had a grilled cheese, hamburger, and shrimp. They all liked their meal. Waitress went out of her way to assist with food allergy. The only not so great item was the crab dip. Otherwise it was perfect."

  • "Wanted to try a Shem Creek restaurant besides Vickery's. View of Shem Creek and marina is excellent, even from inside. Lemon chicken soup was pretty good, although way over-salted. The filet mignon was a disaster, ordered medium well and burned to a crisp and only 50% edible. Sides were blah. Waiter was clueless and unresponsive on comments that the filet was burnt to a crisp. Not going back to this Shem Creek restaurant."

  • "Fun bar scene. Mostly fried foods offered for happy hour. Except for the muscles that were swimming in butter and mushy. So we went inside for dinner. Food was good. Server was nice and was kind enough to split our salads and main dish. Wine prices were very fair. We liked it."

  • "The view was wonderful-watching the dolphins and birds out on the creek. The food was very good. The special was wahoo (sp) which was delicious. My friends loved the crab cakes and the seafood platter. We will definitely will return"

  • "This was my first visit. I requested a window seat overlooking Shem Creek. We saw dolphins swimming in the creek and then we saw a baby swimming with its mother. Honestly, after that, the food could have been terrible and I would have loved this place. But the food wasn't terrible. It was actually quite tasty. I had the special - wahoo with greens. Healthy, tasty. Could have had a wee bit more spices to increase the flavor to suit my taste but was still quite good. My fella had the paella. He loved it. Ate all of it and some of mine. There is a park adjacent to the restaurant row area which was lovely to walk after our meal. Long boardwalk meandering through the marsh. Great evening. "

  • "Was hoping for a good seafood meal in Shem Creek but was extremely disappointed by the quality of the food at Waters Edge. All of our food was bland - basically no seasonings at all - especially the Herb Crusted Grouper which was also not completely cooked. The Shrimp Bisque had a strange texture. I will never eat there again and certainly won't recommend it to anyone. "

  • "Very nice restaurant on Shem Creek; good food and excellent service. We were seated immediately and impressed that lunch was served without delay during the busy holiday weekend. Good crabcakes; excellent blackened mahi (just the right amount of spice); nice wine list. We enjoyed watching the boats, kayaks and paddleboarders from the inside dining area. We'll definitely return. This will be a nice place to bring visiting family members."

  • "Noise from the entrance which is open to the dining room. Should glass in the dividing wall. Food was good. Tablecloths a plus. Terrific waitstaff. Delicious fresh bread and butter. More rest rooms! Even the men were waiting in line! lol"

  • "We had taken family from out of town for dinner here as it is one of our favorite places however I don't know if it was just extremely busy or our waiter not paying attention or a combination but it definitely was not up to par. My husband's ribeye was much to rare and my brother in law's was very tough. Everything else seemed off. We waited 2 hours to actually get our meals then they don't come out done as ordered. No one wanted to send theirs back because we had already waited so long. Our waiter was rather brash and loud thinking he was funny but we watched him completely agravate another table as well. All in all it was disappointing especially because we have always loved it and had great food and service."

  • "My boyfriend and I came here out of recommendation from a close family friend. However, our experience was close to awful. The waitress was rude, short, and hardly came to check up on us. After receiving a delicious salad we had high expectations for the entrees. Forty-five minutes passed between receiving our salads and entrees...the entrees were over cooked and flavorless. A very disappointing experience to say the least. "

  • "Delightful afternoon on the deck with family and friends. Fresh seafood served cheerfully. Our party of six chose a variety of items -- mahi sandwich, shrimp salad, Po Boy -- very fresh and well prepared. "

  • "The waiter seemed friendly as we ordered 2 drinks and our appetizer and meal. After 1 hour and no appetizer and seeing everyone around us eating and leaving, the server said "looks like someone deleted your order". I went to the entrance and asked to speak with a manager who only said I'll take care of it. Long story short, we left after 2 hours and no one ever came to our table and apologized for the poor service. I definitely would NOT recommend Water's Edge."

  • "Our dinner was fantastic. We all got one of the specials and were not disappointed. We had a fantastic view of Shem Creek and were able to watch the sun set over the water. Our server was very attentive, but not overly available. Dessert was superb! We had the Chocolate Pecan Pie and I would come back just for dessert and drinks! Highly recommend. Pretty touristy, but worth the view."

  • "A great, leisurely way to enjoy a tasty seafood meal. We were able to sit outside. My husband's crab BLT was delicious & I had the special- lobster, penne & cheese."

  • "The setting on Shem Creek, the terrific food, and great service- all made for a memorable experience! The restaurant was busy, though considering that it was graduation weekend in Charleston .. the noise level was really not too bad. Our waiter was knowledgeable and had local roots...every recommendation that he made was enjoyed by all!"

  • "Our favorite in Charleston on & off the Peninsula always super food and great atmosphere. We found Water's Edge 4 yrs ago and have returned several times a year when visiting Charleston and will continue every chance we have since we are 3-1/2 hours away. We have never been disappointed this was one of many visits. "

  • "We had a reservation for 2:15 and arrived on time. We were seated quickly and our water glasses filled. We spent the next two and a half hours enjoying the view. They were extremely busy as it was Mother's Day and several college graduations in the area as well. We anticipated having to wait for food, but it was a little longer than expected. For my personal taste, the main entrees weren't worth the price. The waiter for the table beside us spilled a tomato based sauce and it got all over one of the ladies' Coach bag. He offered soda water to clean it, but wasn't very apologetic to the situation. If I were her, I would have been livid. I will say the fried oysters were the best I've ever had. I don't plan to return. "

  • "At prime time for Mother's Day meals, there was a line of people waiting to be seated, and the delay was that the 3 or 4 hostesses could not locate one single menu. It took at least 5 minutes to locate menus, and there were 5 or 6 total when they did. Once we were seated and started to browse the menus we noticed that the condition they were in was disgusting. The cover looked like it had been burned or melted, there were food/liquid stains all over the inside and the outside. The time to get some new menus is long overdue. "
