Diner Reviews
  • "Was ok. English muffins for the Benedict were hard from sitting in the hot pan . Scrambled eggs were rubbery. U could tell they were eggs in the bag. "

  • "The dining room overlooking the creek is nice but the food was awful. The rib eye was full of grizzle and the marinara sauce was watery. Worst meal we had in SC. Would not recommend wasting your money on the Water's Edge."
    Dined on 4/19/2014
  • "Where do I start. The calamari was over cooked. The Caesar salad was loaded with lemon....I could only get through a few bites. The fried seafood platter was cooked in old oil and it was overcooked. The oysters, shrimp and scallops were awful. Have eaten here before but will never return."

  • "Highly impressed with everything. Best place on the creek"

  • "Always a special experience. Table by the window overlooking Shem Creek where the dolphins jump at dusk. Excellent waiter, fine fresh seafood thoughtfully prepared. Best restaurant in Charleston with a scenic view. Very romantic at dusk."

  • "Having eaten here before, I found the food extremely disappointing. The soup of the day, she crab, was the worst I've ever had, anywhere. The only things notable about it were the abundance of flour that went into it and its consistency - more like thick oatmeal than soup. On the positive side, the service was very good and you can't beat the views!"

  • "Very average place even with the waterside view. Ho hum salad with sticky sweet vinaigrette (they had an even odder option of a creamy vinaigrette). Fish was overcooked - lots of sweet sticky sauce on that too. The waitress appeared to have no interest in what we had to say or what we wanted. I guess the owners put their all into the location."

  • "The location is fantastic. To go grab brunch or lunch on the water, it is worth it. A dinner fit for a foodie, not so much. Even tasted fries and the grease needed to be changed, so those weren't even good."

  • "The first visit to this restaurant was delightful. Got a corner table on the terrace and spent an hour quietly discussing business with my out of town guest who was meeting for the first time. Food and service were quite good and interruptions minimal. Would go back again."

  • "Friends in from put of town.....had a wonderful meal .....and the service was suburb !!! I had the grouper .....delicious !!!!"

  • "Pretty basic seafood restaurant. Nothing to complain about, but nothing special either. I think my grandparents would have appreciated it more than me. Nice atmosphere. Server wasn't particularly versed in the menu items. Overpriced for the quality. I love good food, but this place didn't meet my standards."

  • "I took a business guest and the food & service was wonderful!! I'll be back in the near future."

  • "We were visiting and had been to Shem Creek many times in the past. Water's Edge had a good view and the food was above average. Portions were a good size and the price was reasonable. I ma rating because the service was excellent. Proper amount of attention and the server offered good tips on the selections and suggested a few variations in what was offered that made our selections even better. Deserts looked good but the meal was more than enough for oe evening"

  • "This was not my first dining experience at Waters Edge, but my service was horrible. My table was way in the back of the seating area. I had to ask the hostess yo at least pull it out so my guest or myself can get in before she rushed off. Finally when my waiter decided to acknowledge we were there, after bringing water I had to ask for the wine list. The whole thing felt rushed, not my best visit for my Anniversary considering I was just there about 4 weeks prior for my birthday and it was wonderful. Disappointed!"

  • "Excellent setting on Shem Creek with great views. Varied menu, but food is average, Had the grouper which was over cooked and definitely was not fresh as it had a very fishy taste suggesting it had been in house for several days and have had the seafood platter which was not bad, Service was attentive but not overbearing. Have also gone for lunch several times and burgers, salads, and sandwiches have been good, Was disappointed with our 2 trips for dinner though."

  • "Location. Location. Location. If you want to be on Shem Creek unfortunately you take what you can get. It is kind of sad that all of the restaurants on Shem Creek are lacking in the food department. Service was great but elements of each dish were lacking or off."

  • "It never fails...Water's Edge always delivers...great, fresh seafood; excellent & friendly service (Will, this time) and waterfront dining atmospehere!"

  • "Unfortunately, Shem Creek does not have the caliber of restaurants to match the scenery. The food at Water's Edge (the nicest dining option on Shem Creek) is good - nothing special or impressive as downtown Charleston. Still, the view is beautiful even on a rainy day. Definitely make the trip here!"

  • "We were both very pleased. The server knew the menu very well and he was charming. Highly recommend Water's Edge!"

  • "The staff were very accommodating, we enjoyed our evening the food was excellent the view was beautiful. Most times people do not recommend as it is not in downtown but we definitely would recommend to others traveling thru Charleston."

  • "Great waterfront dining. The crispy whole flounder was very good. Everyone had a seafood dish which was good. Desserts made in house - I had key lime pie -- large piece, very good."
    Dined on 2/27/2014
  • "View is fantastic but the food was disappointing. The Shrimp and Grits were so salty it left my taste buds feeling burnt. Shrimp were obviously frozen. The waiter was very professional and courteous."

  • "We had a table overlooking the water, so the view was outstanding! My husband had the crispy flounder, which he stated was delicious. I had the shellfish pasta - it looked fantastic, fresh tomatoes, spinach...but for the ingredients, the menu didn't state it was covered with some kind of melted cheese. I told the waiter I didn't eat cheese, and he looked a bit put off, took it, and said he would be back in a few minutes. When I got another dish, it didn't look near as nice. There was no spinach on it...it was still good, but would have been much better. The waiter didn't ask my husband if he wanted another beer after he finished his first (he would have ordered another) and we had to ask to have our water glasses refilled."

  • "Water's Edge reminds us of a number of eateries in the stretch from Calabash, NC to Myrtle Beach, SC. A lot of warm wood paneling, subdued lighting, an interesting water view. We had the fried seafood platter, and the breading was light and crisp; delicious! The Spanish style rice was a tasty side in lieu of the usual baked potato or French fries. Attentive and friendly service. Will be back next time we head for Charleston!"

  • "We arrived about an hour before our reservation. Ordered drinks and appetizers in the bar. Bartender made a fantastic vodka gimlet, appetizers were phenomenal! We got the shrimp bruschetta and mussels in a tomato artichoke wine sauce. Our entrees were fantastic, grouper and parmesan encrusted swordfish over angel hair. The waiter was great about letting me sample the two wine choices I was considering. Wait staff were great and fun. Their dessert special (it was my birthday) Brittle cup delight or something. So a peanut brittle cup filled with white chocolate mousse mixed in a vanilla ice creamy, strawberries and a raspberry sauce! To die fore. Wish we lived there so we could go back A LOT!"

  • "We always come back to Water's Edge when we want a guaranteed excellent dining experience. The food NEVER disappoints. Service is typically top notch, although this time our waiter was slow on bringing our bread and getting more drinks. To his credit, he was also waiting on the "community" seating so he had several tables. Another server noticed our drinks were empty so she offered to get us more water and let our waiter know we needed another round of drinks. That's the kind of teamwork and service that makes our visits so enjoyable. My swordfish was so good I could have cried! Seafood platter was the same as always...excellent."

  • "This was my first experience at Water's Edge. The service was perfect and the food was incredible....by far the best mahi I've ever had. The wine selection was respectable - wine from every part of the globe. I definitely want to go back!"

  • "The food was good, but too pricey for what we got. The table was in the middle of a small dining area that over looked the parking lot! We expected better portions and more of a menu selection. The service was fine, but overall I was disappointed with my selection of the restaurant for our Valentine's night out. We should have gone downtown."

  • "We had a window view which I would highly recommend. Their daily special and sea food platter were excellent. It is on the high end of the budget but the overall experience is worth it especially for special occasions."

  • "The specials were very good...Pork steak covered in Oysters & pistachio encrusted grouper. Had a good bottle of New Zealand wine. Very friendly staff. Our waitress...whose name escapes me was a young lady 25 years old who gave us great service. Everyone there seemed to be having a great time and service in our area was outstanding. We reserved a table on short notice using a smart phone and it worked like a charm. I would suggest making a reservation...they are busy!"

  • "We brought relatives from out of state with us and every one of us raved about our meals. The service was excellent as well as the food and of course it's a great view of Shem Creek. We will definitely be back as well as recommend it to others."

  • "The staff there is amazing. But the food was OK. 4 out of 5 dinners had to be sent back due to it being cold, under cooked and over cooked. But the manager came right out and said sorry and we had fresh food brought out in minutes. And that food was pretty good :)"

  • "On a recent visit to the Charleston area, my wife and I found the Water's Edge, in Mt Pleasant, to be the equal of any of the top restaurants in Charleston. The enclosed deck, on Shem Creek, affords lovely views of the sunset. The Portobello Mushroom Caps and the Caprese Salad were very good. The Peppered Seared Rare Yellowfin Tuna was fabulous and my wife loved the Herb Seared Grouper. The wine list is amazing and the service is attentive but not annoying. We completed the meal with two deserts and espresso. To have this meal at $50 a person with drinks, the Waters Edge is truly a hidden gem."

  • "A friend had told me Water's Edge is the best place for dinner in Charleston so my husband and I had high expectations. Our dinner was phenomenal and exceeded what we were expecting!"

  • "Times gone by it was really good...Now (at least the night I was there), not so much.... It was Charleston Restaurant Week, so maybe that is why this experience was not really good, but only fair. Had the prime rib. Undercooked to rare rather than medium rare. Meat quality was good otherwise. The mashed potatoes were quite good. The veggies came with a fair amount of cooked onions that overpowered the broccoli--OK as one was good and the other was "al dente" at best. Appetizer was good. Had the bread pudding for dessert. A big hunk of it with fair taste only. All in all, a disappointing meal."
