DELICIOUS!Went here for Mother's Day with a reservation. After being seated, our server was extremely kind and started us off with two Samuel Smith Light beers and gave us some recommendations on what was good and what the kitchen had on special for the day. After ordering oysters and a filet mignon pot pie (which was very tasty) we ordered our main entrees. I had the duck burger with a sirloin patty after our server recommending it to us. There is no burger in this world that can come up to par with that burger; IT WAS THE BEST THING, EVER! A must have if you ever go there. We were seated upstairs next to the balcony overlooking the courtyard and the twinkle-lighted pepper tree. The ambiance was wonderful; it felt like we were in a posh treehouse. Cocktails (try the signature Watermarc) were delicious and not weak, and my husband was excited to see Chimay on the drink menu. We ordered several small plates, and especially loved the bacon wrapped dates and fried goat cheese. As for entrees, the scallops, salmon and filet 3 ways were all big hits, as was the potato purée trio; quite honestly, everything was sooo good. He scheduled our tapas dishes to come out with perfect timing and even suggested the order based on the presentation on the palate. He suggested an excellent wine for me as well (and I'm pretty picky about that). The busers were very quick to clear the tables. We came last night after our engagement photo shoot and our photographer liked the decor and decided to take a few shots in the restaurant. The restaurant owner/manager was very gracious and helpful as we snapped a few shots before dinner. I highly recommend the Filet Three Ways and the Potato Purée Trio. The steaks were perfectly cooked and seasoned, and each mashed potato dish was very flavorful. The tapas are outstanding. You could order several to share in lieu of a meal and it would be perfect. I have now tried 2 entrees, the short ribs and the scallops, and they were both delicious. Watermarc's location across from Main Beach in downtown Laguna Beach is great. We got windowside seats,& could people watch both inside & outside. More importantly, we could hear ourselves speak. Although the restaurant is loud, it's a pleasant buzz, or at least it was from our table. Try the Dates wrapped in bacon, you'll thank me! The ricotta cheese & lamb chop small plates are also superb. We wanted to try their Beef Wellington, since not many restaurants offer that as a choice these days. Again, we were quite satisfied with the quality of the filet and the flavor and texture of the mushroom pate' as well as the pastry. Our waitress was also friendly and attentive. The food was great. We had several of the small plates (beet carpaccio, ahi watermelon skewers and burratta) and they were all yummy. We split the filet tree ways which was good but not amazing. We also had the potato purée three ways which was great and the sweet corn risotto which was excellent. We dine upstairs where the ambiance is quieter and more dining-like than the downstairs bar area that is more casual and noisy. We had the sizzling shrimp appetizer and for entrees the scallops and the swordfish which was the special of the evening.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFun night of foodLoved the menu at Warermarc. There was 2 of us and we shared 6 dishes from the tasting menu. Really original items. Our favorites were the oysters on the half shell that had vodka lemon infused ice chips on top and the tuna watermelon skewers. Our waiter was amazing...that always makes the night special. Bread pudding on dessert menu was to die for. Only complaint was noise. Acoustics are lousy so you have to talk loud. And seating is a bit like NY where tables right next to eachother.
Forgot to add...the warm bread they serve was out of this world.
