Diner Reviews
  • "Watermarc continues to impress. This gem of a restaurant in our hometown never disappoints. Food, service, table, ambiance, special occasion treat for everyone. We consider this our special occasion restaurant but I think I will have to edit that by calling it my "once a week restaurant". Thank you again for a memorable evening upstairs with friends."

  • "We had dinner at Watermarc on Friday night, August, 15. Generally, the drinks and tapas (flat bread, oysters and lamb) were top notch, although the "Dark and Stormy" tasted terrible, so we opted for "Fire and Ice" which was terrific! Seafood entres (scallops and paella) were way too salty. Service was attentive and accommodating when we sent the "Dark and Stormy" back. Would go again, but just for cocktails and tapas."

  • "We made reservations for our anniversary dinner at Watermarc in Laguna Beach and found everything about it oustanding. Plus...the best comped anniversary dessert we've ever had!"

  • "The food taste fine, but very rich. Was with our 2 daughters and wasn't looking to spend $170 for dinner (no drinks)."

  • "We had a wonderful experience with the exception we were both gluten-free for health reasons, not by choice. We let the server know this from the start; he even said he would make sure things were prepared gluten-free. My dish was served on a toasted round (not gluten-free) and was topped with crispy onions (not gluten-free) and surprise dessert was bread pudding (so not gluten-free). We will be back but will make sure we are very clear about the seriousness of having our meal prepared GF."

  • "I have only eaten at Watermarc a few times, but it is my new favorite restaurant. The reason is consistency. While a couple of my other regular spots offer great food and service, they sometimes have off days or times when the entrees aren't quite right. Every time we've been to Watermarc, the food has been prepared perfectly. This last time, we both had chilean sea bass as our entrees and it was perfection, along with the vegetables, which included asparagus and artichokes. The nut cake was a great desert. We also always find a wine by the glass that we like and is reasonably priced. We'll be back."

  • "My husband and I had a marvelous meal there. I had the best seafood paella that I've ever had. My husband ordered the filet mignon trio. They were a little too well done, and there could have been more sauce on the plate. Everything else was wonderful, including our small table on the terrace."

  • "I've visited this place twice so far. I'm not from California so it was just coincidence that came to the same area before and this place has a vibrant feel to it. However this time wasn't as impressed as last time just a year ago. Food was slow to come in. Not as good as I remembered and service was also a bit slow and yes it was a very busy night but I believe this is the norm."

  • "We had Sizzling Shrimp, Blackened NY Steak and Filet Three Ways which were excellent. Also ordered Potato Trio which was disappointing - pureed to much almost pure starch. Had "Lunch Box" for dessert which was cute but just okay. Good location and friendly efficient staff. We will be back."

  • "WATERMARC was recommended to us by a friend and we weren't disappointed. Our server, Matt, was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and didn't hover. We highly recommend it and will definitely return the next time we are in Laguna."

  • "From patio dining to inside Watermarc never disappoints. The menu is diverse from homemade tomato soup with grilled cheese finger sandwiches to seafood paella brimming with a half lobster, mussels, shrimp and calamari to tender fall off the bone beef short ribs. Extensive cocktail menu and desserts. Great place!"

  • "Driving from the Laguna Play house at 5:00 PM to the Watermarc is quite the battle but worth the hassle! Parking is another major headache for any restaurant on PCH. The food was excellent; the shrimp appetizer and the pistachio crusted lamb chops were wonderful! Next time we will park at one of the parking lots on the Canyon Road and take the bus down to avoid the traffic...however, you get there this is an restaurant."

  • "It was Spectacularly mediocre... Pork was dry but lamb chops were the best meal. Only saving grace was the excellent waiter we had."

  • "Fantastic meal. We had the "steak the ways", cauliflower, and mashed potatoes. Highly recommend. Everything cave out perfect."

  • "This place came recommended. Cute restaurant, very fun atmosphere. The food was OK, not fabulous. The staff while attentive seemed to want to turn the table quickly and seemed more responsive to those diners with larger parties than just two. I did appreciate the waiter steering us away from things he felt were inconsistent or not high on his list of faves. His recommendations were spot on. I would give it a second try the next time I'm in Laguna."

  • "We had another restaurant in mind which didn't take reservations. So I checked out the reviews on Tripadvisor and someone complained about the drinks being two strong which is crazy. My friends wife had the filet 3 ways and it melted in your mouth."

  • "If you are visiting Laguna Beach or a local, this is one of our favorite restaurants. Unique flavors and food. Try the tuna-watermelon skewers the best!! Order lots of small plates and share, you will be happy. Really exceptional and unique restaurant."

  • "We like coming here, great happy hour menu, nice location, food and service are usually great. Bun on my burger was a bit stale, fries were not hot, we had a server change during our visit, second one acted as if he really didn't want to be there. Always been terrific before, just off their game this time."

  • "What a cool little restaurant. The tables are pretty tight, but I'm sure rent in Laguna Beach has something to with that. Service here is as solid as it gets, the wine list has many interesting selections and the food is fit for the most discerning palates. A+"

  • "We had dinner last Saturday night for second time and been impressed both times. We were seated promptly at a window table we had requested. Service was good, our guy was nice but a bit over the top, overly attentive but not there when you wanted him, had to request water top ups a few times plus pouring our own wine. Fried goat cheese and ahi/melon apps were great and nice bread. Chilean sea bass was amazing and asparagus with it great. Herb crusted lamb chops were just Ok, nicely seasoned but not great lamb as not very tender, gnocchi was a bit heavy but nice and mushrooms were great but smothered in butter so had to be good. It is very loud and there is little space between tables, a few less tables could transform this place."

  • "The food was impeccable. Flavorful and plentiful. Only drawback was no air conditioning after a hot day outside. We were upstairs and there was no air flow - not even any fans. It was hard to enjoy a hot meal after being outside all day in Laguna Beach."

  • "Food was outstanding, we had a dinner of all appetizers and loved it! Waiter was very attentive and FUN, always watching and ready to fulfill our needs Sitting at the window at sunset was a bit bright, (only for a short period of time) well worth it!"

  • "The manager on duty was very accomodating and our server Mat had a great attitude and seemed to enjoy his job. Their cocktails are made from fresh fruits , check them out. Tapas bar is very experimental. Highly recommended!! After dinner walk to across for Gelatto, from Paradiso. BBS"

  • "Watermarc has a well-designed atmosphere and an intriguing menu and wine list. And that combination along with a convenient location on PCH has brought us back three times now. And while I can say it is good and that we have enjoyed it I can't say it is great because they always seem to be just off a bit on one thing or another. It could be the menu is simply too ambitious for the talent in the kitchen, or it could be they just don't have enough quality control, but there always seems to be something cooked a bit too much or too little or seasoned wrong. And while they offer a great assortment of wine by the glass they serve the white wine too warm (an unwelcome trend). But still we come back hoping for a bit more..."

  • "This was truly the first restaurant I have been to in years that I could say was PERFECT. The service (Wade was wonderful) was impeccable, the food was out of this world. Everything about our experience on our anniversary was beyond any restaurant we have ever been too. You never see a waiter until he knows you need service and is right there to attend to you. His suggestions for food and wine were spot on. No one bothered us during our meal and were quietly available for our needs. Thank you for making our 7th anniversary a special one. This is our go to restaurant in Laguna."

  • "We had a very enjoyable meal at Watermarc, with the possible exception of the noise level (hard to avoid these days anywhere). Food and drinks were excellent, staff was pretty attentive. Too crowded and noisy for a romantic meal, but fine for a larger, boisterous group."

  • "Had an early dinner with my hubby here. The extra dirty martinis we ordered were spilt all over, not very cold and not very dirty. By the time we got the extra "dirty" I asked for, we had already eaten our apps and our entrees showed up. Our server was friendly enough but not very helpful or professional. The paella was very good and the steak my hubby got was "good not great." We should've stuck with out usual Nick's (next door)."

  • "I picked this restaurant for my birthday dinner. The reviews were glowing. The restaurant was packed and noisy. Some of the food very tasty and some like the filet mignon mini potpie very disappointing. The server was just doing his job and I felt nothing special from him, let alone any special courtesy or warmth on my birthday. Hey, a girl just wants to feel special on her birthday. I see no reason to return here, there is better food and service in Laguna Beach."

  • "The grilled halibut tacos were delish. Son had the duck confit burger. 1 of the best he's ever had. High praise coming from a New York foodie. Also loved the Burata burger. Attentive, good service .Will definitely be back."

  • "Really good filet mignon tacos and homemade veggie burgers. We had great service, a lovely window spot and our favorite wine. The only thing that would make this restaurant better would be an outdoor garden or patio."

  • "My boyfriend and I are always looking for a new place with a great menu to try. Watermarc did not disappoint! I had the filet 3 ways. It was delicious! The filets were cooked to a perfect medium rare, each having their own flavor. My boyfriend got the carpaccio, which he loved. They had numerous sides and appetizers to choose from as well."

  • "Watermarc delivers a warm and vibrant atmosphere with great food. We were seated promptly in a great spot upstairs. This was a first date and my date was very impressed and loved the whole vibe. We will continue frequenting this restaurant going forward. Kudos to the chef on the scallops and sea bass...amazing and the Watermarc martini was superb."
