Diner Reviews
  • "Celebrating my husband's birthday. We are foodies/vegetarians. The staff was very accommodating; the food out of this world! Inside or out. Romantic setting, special for friends or family, Highly recommend."

  • "This restaurant is located on the east end of College of DuPage. I have heard it is part of the college but is run by a stand alone staff. Whatever the case is the food is fantastic-- you will not be disappointed. They also have a very nice outdoor space which overlooks a large pond."

  • "This is a real find! On the campus of College of DuPage, at the Culinary school, Waterleaf is a fine dining experience with a conversation-friendly ambiance. The food was delicious, and the service quite good. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience dining on the patio."

  • "Waterleaf on a pleasant Saturday summer evening. Dined outside on patio, the setting was picturesque, relaxed, comfortable. The service is outstanding: friendly, attentive, pleasing to serve, knowledgeable about menu selections. Food was very good. I understand Waterleaf promotes as "French" dining, but it seemed the portions for the entrees and the accompanying side dishes could have been a bit bigger for the price / value (applies to orders selected by myself and dining companions: tilapia, duck, filet). Was unaware that this elegant gem is part of the COD complex. Certainly a place to go for a special occasion."

  • "Our second visit for lunch - this time took friends who enjoyed it as much as we. Food, service, and ambience were excellent both times. Worth the drive (from Geneva) for lunch, but unfortunately a little too far for dinner since we love our wine."

  • "This is a wonderful restaurant with excellent food, service and ambiance! Spread the word and get people there!"

  • "One of the very best in the Chicago area. The setting with the lake in front of you, lighted trees around you and 2 fire pits In the center of the patio is dreamlike. The food is very creative and delicious. A good example would be the peanut butter soufflé with grape jelly on the top. Our server was very attentive and substituted a side dish when of us did not want the one that came with the meal. Can't wait to go back."

  • "The restaurant (and hotel) are almost hidden on the campus of the College of DuPage. However, it's worth the trip. It is easily accessible from the Roosevelt Road exit off of I-355. Food is excellent (and we're foodies) and we plan to visit, again, in the future. The patio has a nice view of the pond and campus. Inside the dining room is quiet and reserved. Management is highly trained and motivated so that the experience is always pleasant. Highly recommended."

  • "We tried the Waterleaf Restaurant based on a great review by Phil Vettel (sp?) of the Chicago Tribune. We sat outdoors near the fire pit and overlooking the beautiful small lake with lighted fountain and floating flowers. The menu was well rounded, and the wine list was extensive. Our meals were delicious and the presentation was nice without being over the top. The chef made excellent use of seasonal produce. My duck breast with blueberry sauce & roasted nectarines was both delicious and creative. The service was excellent; friendly but not intrusive. The evening was romantic with wonderful ambiance. The dining room is also very attractive and cozy. All in all, we plan on returning often & may even try the overnight hotel/dinner pkg."

  • "Everything was very nice. The food was inventive and delicious. I really enjoyed my tuna carparchio and my veal loin. My only complaint would be portions are kinda small."

  • "I have been here many times and am never disappointed. Wonderful food and service. Very accomadating to our wishes."

  • "The main courses were good, liver and lobster roll, but we ordered the 3 cheese appetizer and thought the portions were too small. The setting is gorgeous, window wall looking out on the lawn and lake. Service was also very good. The prices for lunch were high, we had appetizer, main course , dessert and coffee for $40 each. Sorry I can't be more positive, we were looking forward to it after reading the reviews."

  • "This restaurant, which is on the campus of COD, was recommended to me by a friend, who dined there and couldn't believe the food, atmosphere, scenery and service! I took a friend there for her birthday and it was wonderful! Food was outstanding, as well as view and service, and most of all it was a relaxing atmosphere! It's amazing how many people don't know it's there along with a 6 room hotel! Do yourself a favor and head to Waterleaf, it's the best kept secret in Du Page County, you won't be disappointed!!!!! It is also available for private functions up to 120 people!"

  • "This was my second visit to Waterleaf and my first review. My first visit was excellent but I can't say the same for this visit. Everything was same as first visit except for the Service. We had a Saturday night reservation for 6:45. It took 30 minutes! to get our pre-dinner drinks after we ordered them when we sat down. What made us furious is that while waiting 30 minutes to receive our drinks, the "reserved" table guests sitting next to us by the window got their drinks, their order taken, their bottle of wine and were visted by their server and management staff several times. It seemed as though the patrons and management are all French and as a result received impecable service at our expense. Everything else was very good."

  • "This is a lovely hidden gem and the service is outstanding. There was always someone to take care of something for you right away. Great dining experience."

  • "Whereas the chilled asparagus was somewhat overpowered by its sauce the halibut was out of this world as was the double chocolate cake. Service was efficient, knowledgeable, and unobtrusive. Highly recommend the Waterleaf and will return to try other promising menu items."

  • "We took friends to Winterleaf after reading all the great reviews. The place looks great with wide open views over the pond. We all had the three course dinner, and were not all that impressed. The dinners were all good, but were missing the ingredients that would move them to the great class. My pork tenderloin was slightly over cooked. My mushroom risotto was skimpy in mushrooms and in size."

  • "Wonderful weather, dining al fresco overlooking beautiful garden and pond with background music playing softly in the background. Top notch food cooked perfectly with a presentation to match. Waterleaf is a true find, one of the best restaurants in the Chicago metro area."

  • "This could possibly be the best restaurant in Chicago without all of the hype. Outstanding view of the lake from the patio. Definitely worth the drive. Don't believe the OpenTable availability. If there are no times available on OpenTable, call the restaurant directly."

  • "We have only been for brunch, although they do have a full lunch and dinner menu. Caramel apple pancakes are a family favorite. All the food is very well done and as one would expect. They go out of their way to deliver excellent service. Location is actually very nice. Entrance is a bit "institutional" as it is part of COD, but the restaurant overlooks a pond with nice big windows, so you actually forget where you are very quickly."

  • "The weather was perfect so we ate outside. Food was great, as usual. Saw two blue and one white heron flying and wading around, as well as several ducks and cormorants. Flowers islands floating in the man made lake and water fountain completed the beautiful and relaxing luncheon."
