Diner Reviews
  • "Four of us dined last weekend and found the restaurant to be an enjoyable experience and a good place to be able to have a conversation with friends. The waiter was new but seemed knowledgeable. My beef short ribs were outstanding. I only wish I had saved my risotto starter, which was not so notable, to enjoy with the sauce on the ribs. My husband selected from the price fixe menu which was a good value. The service was attentive, but it did take my girlfriend a couple try's to get a glass of ice. For someone who loves to cook I thought it was a wonderful night out!"

  • "This is our second time here. The first time we time was very nice, but it was a bit different, since it was on a Monday. Then they had a fixed menu and pricing with the COD students serving and preparing. This time we visited after a concert at the MAC. The food was exceptional and the service was just as good! There was a nice variety and even a few specials. Both my husband and I really enjoyed our salad and entrée, and we shared a lovely dessert. I would definitely go back a third time! Loved their wine list too!"

  • "Wonderful in every aspect. Very good pricing for the quality received. Excellent wine list. Will look forward to making my way through some more of the menu and the wine list in the future."

  • "We had a wonderful brunch. The crab and corn soufflé was delicious. The quail was unique and quite tasty. The atmosphere was very sophisticated. All in all, a very lovely meal. And the price was very reasonable. We would come again."

  • "This is the place for any special occasion or a romantic night out. The regular menu is a little pricey, but the food is so worth it. Complex, complementary tastes. Great presentation. Not rushed. We'll be back soon."

  • "Lunch at Waterleaf was a bright and pleasant break from the long and dull winter days. We all loved the open and bright atmosphere with floor to ceiling windows providing a lovely view. The food was good and our service was extra special. Looking forward to returning for brunch on the patio on a warm Sunday."

  • "A great meal, great friends, great service. This was everyone's first time at Waterleaf, and will not be the last. I had the pork tenderloin off the prix fixe menu, and was so good I hope management puts it on the regular menu. I didn't care for the texture of the milk chocolate crème cremeux nor did I care for the dark chocolate syrup topper. I don't care for dark chocolate, just a personal preference. I sampled the crème brulee and would order that instead."

  • "I am mourning the loss of all the missed meals. I just didn't know this place was there - hidden on the campus of College of DuPage campus. The setting was beautiful with expansive views of the water (I guess it's a retention pond, but it's beautifully landscaped). The brunch menu was fantastic. My partner had Crab Benedict & it was delicate, meaty & sublime. I had a delicious savory pork with a spicy peppered sauce. We started with the house smoked salmon and a selection of 3 cheeses. We finished with a medley of desserts - both the vanilla bean Bavarian custard and orange crème brulee were memorable. The service was extremely attentive without being uncomfortably formal. Overall a great experience. We'll be back to try dinner!"

  • "Two of us really enjoyed a nice lunch here for a very reasonable cost. We were on a time limit which we didn't mention, but were in and out in exactly an hour. It looks like if we wanted to, though, we could linger over coffee for the afternoon. Food presentation was beautiful, and they were very accomodating regarding food allergies. The curried chicken salad was quite tasty. I'll definitely be back and will be trying some of the excellent-sounding fish dishes on the menu."

  • "Our group enjoyed a tasty brunch here. The service was excellent and attentive. We had a quiet corner table near the windows. Our brunch entrees were beautifully presented and delicious."

  • "We arrived a little early and they were very accommodating in setting up a table as soon as possible. We sat at the tables within the lounge and had a drink and the service and attention at the bar was excellent. Once seated the staff was not rushing us to make a decision on ordering. Once we decided to make a selection the staff give us some suggestions and also answered any questions we had about the menu. The ambiance was wonderful, it was quite so we could talk and enjoy each others company, and we never felt rushed. The food was exceptionally good and I would go again. We had heard about this restaurant before but never went. Don't wait go and enjoy it as much as we did."

  • "One would not expect a fine dining restaurant on a community college campus but that is exactly what Waterleaf is. The service is impeccable and the room is very attractive. The wine list is huge and the waiter very knowledgeable. The Pre Fixe menu is a good value although somewhat limited. My only complaint is that the chocolate tart was very hard and crumbly and almost impossible to eat despite the great flavor. Very convenient to the McAninch Arts Center which is right next door and feature some great concerts."

  • "The server was a wealth of information. She offered her favorites but knew about every dish. We took some very good friends for a special brunch. We had a wonderful food....the blueberry French toast was delicious and the crab soufflé was yummy. The food presentation was beautiful. Thank you for the wonderful dining experience."

  • "Went to Waterleaf before a performance at the MAC. Loved the cuisine and ambience. Service needed polishing. At the restaurant's price point, servers should not be saying "no problem" in response to a customer thank you or request. Also, the interaction among the servers should be a little more professional and less "student" like in their language, casualness, etc. Overall, we were very impressed except for the service issue."

  • "This was a really nice dining experience. Great service, super friendly bar staff with well made cocktails. Great service, especially the bus? water, bread, busperson blonde girl. Food beautifully presented. Nice sized entrees. Pricey, but worth the experience for a special occasion or a quiet, romantic dinner."

  • "For restaurant meals we usually choose local, reasonably priced venues; the exception being special occasions. 6 of us celebrated my sons 53rd birthday. The Waterleaf was a good choice. There were a variety of menu choices, the food was excellent and the service prompt and friendly."

  • "Three of us had leek/potato soup. It was a little too strained and the portion was too small for the large bowl it was served in. My rabbit and spaetzle were like mush and very salty but the men liked their fish - sea trout but not the side oyster mushroom. I wasn't crazy about my hazelnut chocolate tart - very dry - over cooked - but a friend like the crème brulee and her main dish of chicken pot pie and her beet salad and the other man liked his sorbet. The prie fixe for $35.00 had two fish dishes and rabbit. A better mix would have been better. The place had a nice ambience overlooking the pond and the patio with an open fire pit. Service was excellent. Restaurant looked lovely with a small but nice bar area"

  • "Food was way to salty. Presentation was very good. No one was in the place, don't know how they are going to stay in business. About 30 people in the whole place."

  • "We went with high expectations for great food and we were not disappointed. We looked at the specials and regular menu and were pleasantly surprised that all in our party had selected specials included in the 3 course fixed price menu. I had lobster salad with a very tasty dressing, veal short ribs, nicely herbed, and a chocolate pavlova which was light, nicely chocolatey, not too sweet. I don't usually get dessert, but I was glad I had gotten this one. There apparently was a performance at the MAC the night we were there, and when we told our server we were ready to order, he explained he needed to get coffee and a bill to a group that had to get to the MAC. We were fine with that as we appreciated the time to visit."

  • "My husband and I went on a Friday night. We didn't know what to expect and were quite unsure of what was in store for us. We had an amazing experience. Fantastic food, service, and ambience. Gourmet food at a completely reasonable price! We will be back!"

  • "The staff was very anxious to do a good job so wonderful attitudes and the restaurant backed them up by meeting my special request-changes to a salad. The food was very good, especially soup and dessert. Only issue was that I had asked for seafood grilled for my salad but it had been sautéed. Room nice and quiet so could talk"

  • "Just like in the old movie......what a hidden gem! This is what a fine dining place should be. Noise level hush...food fantastic....service A+......lighting low......prices amazing....etc. etc. I can't wait to see what it will be like in the warmer weather when everything is in bloom. You won't be disappointed (trust me)."

  • "Lovely room, especially window tables by the pond. Excellent, attentive servers and wait staff. We arrived early on purpose. I observed it was more rushed when the dinner crush arrived, so allow yourself the time to enjoy the experience. The meals were all beautifully crafted and presented. The amuse bouche was delicious, as was the complimentary half cup of yummy tomato basil soup for my guest. The vegetable tartar was fresh and interesting and the tender beef rib melted in the mouth and was extremely tasty. I was less thrilled with the rather tasteless and tough pork ravioli appetizer and the desserts are pretty but there was little to tempt the chocolate lover or sweet tooth. The menu evolves constantly so check it out and enjoy."

  • "Waterleaf is pretty spectacular. There is no affiliation between the restaurant and College of DuPage other than its location. We think that Vie (in Western Springs) is the best restaurant in the western suburbs and Waterleaf is comparable. Everything was artfully prepared (and served) and delicious. Service was flawless. Our only criticism is that we expected the dining room to be busier on a Friday night,"

  • "Very nice, from reception to dessert, we enjoyed the attentive service, the choices, the beautiful clean crisp setting, and the chef, formerly of Maijean sure can cook. Jean-Pierre knows his wines and gets to know his customers. Overall, an outstanding find for the suburbs. We'll be going back."
