  • "The service was so slow we had a reservation yet it took ten minutes to be seated we ordered some oysters it took 45 minutes for them to arrive we also had mussels which were the size of my little finger nail and I had rock cod both dishes were served cold as if it had been ready for a while we were both disappointed and I would not recommend it "

  • "We have been here for brunch on all of our recent trips to San Francisco. The outdoor seating on a sunny day can't be beaten. The $20 Bloody Mary with shrimp and bacon is great. I think the bacon has gotten thinner of late. I loved the bacon I had there in November 2013 better than this trip April 2014. I am a bacon addict."

  • "We brought my mother and cousin, who were visiting from out of town. We requested a window seat and they gave us one with an AMAZING view. Everything was superb--the food, the service, the ambiance. The table was really comfortable, and everyone enjoyed a view, whether it was of the bridge as it lit up at night, or the beautiful fish tanks in the restaurant. Our waiter was on top of everything and the evening was perfect. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough."

  • "I have been to the Waterbar on several occasions and the food and service have always been top shelf. If you are coming to SF this is a must see place for a great dinner and view of the Bay.."

  • "For the price charged, the food and service offered are not close to fair. The waiter and the bartender were very nice, but the customer service for reservations and the reception at the door need improvement. The worst is that you still have to wait too long for your table even though you have a reservation. The food is just okay. However, it table way too long to be served. By the time the food is in your table, you already ate so much bread. For the price charged, I would recommend Epic Roast House, which can bit Waterbar by far in terms of ambience, service, food, and view. Waterbar is a very disappointing experience."

  • "Our server Woody was great. Best restaurant with a view in the SF Bay area and that's saying a lot. Best oyster bar period. The view of the Bay Bridge was incredible."

  • "Restaurant was recommended to us so we made a reservation through OpenTable. We arrived early, dining room was not open yet. Bar was packed for happy hour. No luck getting a seat at the bar so we waited for the dining room to open. The host seating us gave us a pretty poor seat. We asked to move since most of the seats were still open. He moved us behind a big column blocking the view of the bridge (view is why we came). He was not friendly. We were surprised he was seating us in poor spots when the restaurant was completely open. We asked our waitress to move and she accommodated us with no problem. Food average. Much better restaurants and definitely better service elsewhere."

  • "I overall enjoyed the ambience, the waiter was diligent and kind. The managers were constantly surrounding our table and we felt rushed and we wanted to spend a little more time ordering drinks but decided to leave."

  • "Service was great, food was good also. It was SO LOUD we couldn't even hear each other at our table. For the price it cost this is unacceptable"

  • "I remember how impressed I was the first time I went to Waterbar for lunch with coworkers to celebrate Professional Admin Day. We felt so pampered. Great good. Great service. Magnificant view. That was a few years ago. I've been back since for lunch, dinner, drinks but I wouldn't say all the times that followed were impressive though I left thinking it was a good experience but not exceptional. However, this last time I went for lunch this past Monday with my sister visiting from NYC, left a very bad taste in my mouth and I would not go back again nor woudl I recommend Waterbar to anyone I know. The waitress we had was not friendly and never once checked up on us during our meal. It took her a long time before she even took our order."

  • "Love seafood, will love this place. There are also quite a few non fish/seafood items too. Service was quite good. Came along to check we were happy with our meal and then left us alone unless looked like beverages needed refilling or had finished to clear our plates. I like this."

  • "If you want a view of the Bay, this clearly is one of the beat restaurants in the city. If you are there after sunset you get a upclose view of the Bay Bridge lights. They have floor to ceiling windows so it seems that you are likely to have a good view from most seats in the house. There is also a bar if you want to just grab a drink and catch the view. They also have an outside patio but it wasn't open after dark the night I was there (not surprising in San Francisco). I had the wood fired oven lobster along with oysters and both were very good. They also had a nice selection of cocktails. The emphasis on the menu is seafood but my wife thought her steak was good also."

  • "This restaurant was all around awesome. We had oysters and they were great. They were very well cleaned and you can't beat a dollar per oyster before 5:30. The view was spot on. The real surprise was the ceviche. It was the best I've ever had. I will be dreaming about it for weeks. Perfectly balanced sweet, salt, texture."

  • "Bar service was terrible on early Saturday. Finally had to grab a bar tender to take our order after 10 min wait. Dinner - seating was adjacent to the bar and very noisy- I had to ask some bar customers to move back into the bar area as they were literally hanging over our table.. After that, it was great. View of the Bay and bridge were over the top. The waiter was excellent and the food items were great too. Brought us free Moscato with dessert for a birthday.. desserts were incredible too. Wine markups were very high but good wine list."

We had a great casual lunch and stayed as long as we liked.....by 12:30/ 1pm it had gotten very busy and we were outta there! Very enjoyable.........I'd go again for lunch, for sure."

  • "food is good. price value-wise, it is not worth it. But for view, it is a good choice. If you want great seafood or food in general can don't mind less scenic location, there are better choices in SF ."

  • "We had a fantastic birthday celebration at the Waterbar. The food was delicious, presentation was absolutely perfect but mostly our waiter was outstanding. We had a really lovely time. The view of the bridge with the twinkling lights was so beautiful. We will most definitely be at the Waterbar again."

  • "I've heard so much about the water bar through friends.... As of last week I had a first hand experience for my Birthday! It was an excellent experience on all fronts..... atmosphere, food and service! Especially the Service. It was very personable from the moment you arrive to when you leave!"

  • "We had a wonderful time. We arrived 1/2 hour early and they were very busy but they accommodated us beautifully none-the-less. The food was creative and outstanding, the service was attentive without hovering and the experience was first rate from beginning to end."

  • "Food was amazing, waiter was excellent and overall service was wonderful (sometimes felt we were "over-serviced" with the individual responsible for clearing the plates checking if we were done with our meal too often). View of Bay Bridge was wonderful; will absolutely make this a regular stop when visiting San Francisco."

  • "My girlfriend and I almost bailed because we were having a hard time fitting it into our trip and are we glad we did. The inside is beautiful with crystal balls over the bar and the column fish tank. The food was also great and reasonably priced for San Francisco BUT the setting is nothing short of fabulous. It feels like the Bay Bridge is dining with you. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "We waited over 30 min for our brunch food to arrive, and dining with our 14-month old daughter, the wait was difficult to handle. When the food arrived, the potato galette with my salad was so greasy it left an oil slick. It seemed like it had been pre-made, then deep fried quickly to warm it up. I left it untouched. My husband's crab fettuccine was watery & underseasoned. We would have complained but our food took so long to arrive we had to eat & head out quickly. We are frequent diners here, & found that the food was sorely lacking this time. The hostess was also a bit surly, especially when we asked for a child's menu. Not sure we'll be back - we used to think the ambience & food was worth the higher prices, but now we're not so sure."

  • "The menu could use an update. How about something seasonal? I'm bugged by the service. The timing is off. The fries tasted like they had been sitting under the heat lamp. Twice had oysters w/no oyster fork. Had to ask the first time, gave up the second serving. Second serving as an error. The shrimp cocktail came after the main course. No apologies. An appetizer comes BEFORE the meal. We had to ask for bread. I didn't need to ask for a second glass of wine. Perhaps because that's an additional $16? Server was friendly but I am consistently annoyed with the lack of training in timing and service with both the staff and kitchen. Shame as the view is great. Glasses by the wine decent. Seafood is fresh and daily oyster specials are great."

  • "If you are looking for a special occasion restaurant with beautifully prepared food and exquisite service, Waterbar is the place. Not surprisingly the oyster selection was wonderful. And the starters and main dishes were interesting and elegant without being fussy. You can’t beat the view and the space is lovely."

  • "Waterbar is a tourist spot. It has good food but it is nothing out of the ordinary. It has great views and oysters. I had halibut that was very good."

  • "Last Saturday we celebrated a birthday at the Waterbar. We were rather disappointed at the selection of meals offered that evening. When our meals came out they were cold. Only one of us told the waiter who then took the one dish back, put the food on a really hot plate and returned it. The food was still cold but hot on the bottom ?!? Everyone thought their dishes tasted good but just were not warm. They obviously had been sitting for quite some time before being served. The service was very slow in the begining, we waited for almost 1/2 hour before he took our order, but then improved greatly. The atmosphere is really nice it is just too bad that the food and service are lacking....."

  • "Thanks to the entire staff, especially Jim who took great care of us throughout the evening. The view from Table 8 was mesmerizing. The food and wine were awesome. But the care your whole team took with us due to our Anniversary was the most unexpected and pleasant surprise. It was clear you were determined to make this a night of nights for us, and you succeeded!"

  • "My parents were visiting from Colorado during my father’s birthday. He is a big foodie who loves seafood so we took him here. The service was great: the manager came by twice to chat with my parent’s, wish my dad a happy birthday and check the food. Our server Amy was so warm and worked with the kitchen to pace our meal / drinks impeccably well so that the evening was relaxed, slow-paced but we were so well attended to. I would recommend this restaurant for a special way to make for a memorable evening."

  • "I have been here a couple times now and the food is consistently amazing. The staff is very accommodating, our waiter even asked about allergies before taking our order - very important as my friend did have a food allergy. Then she checked with the kitchen to find out what dishes were going to be okay for my friend to eat. The atmosphere is great, it's got a fantastic view of the bay bridge and if you eat on the patio outside they provide warm blankets upon request too. The menu always changes depending on what is freshly available, and the wine list is impressive - even offering a couple pre-fermentation (non-alcoholic) wine options. The price tag is not cheap, but the food and experience is well worth it."

  • "the evening started out great!!! great drinks at the bar loved the bartender very personable, but when it came to seating my husband and I it went downhill from there 15 minutes before we saw bread then quickly received an appetizer, wine and split a salad. 45 minutes later we were still waiting for our dinners, mind you we ordered fish. When we did receive our dinners the fish was hot but everything else on the plate was ice cold well at this point we are starving so we started to eat our dinners and someone came over told my husband it wasn't the dish he ordered gave him another dish of food again ice cold. I order pertrale typically its very flat and thin this look like a piece of cod...They did comp our dinners but it disappointing!!!"

  • "This place has an incredible view of the bay bridge but the cool view is of the huge aquarium pillars inside. Delicious oysters, great wine list and very friendly and helpful wait staff. This place is not to be missed!"

  • "Waterbar has to be one of the finest dining spots in all of San Francisco! The views of the Bay Bridge are unparalleled, especially if you go at night and are treated to the unbelievably beautiful display of patterned lights on the new Bay Bridge--a spectacular moving art show. The service is everything you would expect and more of an upscale dining experience. The menu is changed daily, depending upon what is fresh and in season, and the unique preparations and presentation are truly unprecedented. We took our relatives who were in town visiting from the South of France, and they truly were impressed in every way. We would not hesitate to take future guests to this fabulous dining spot on the Bay."

  • "Feasted on oysters and a cilled bottle of Honig Sauvignon Blanc prior to having oyster poor boys and squid. Delicious food, well presented and attentively served. A leisurely lunch in a comfortable banquette facing San Francisco Bay on a perfectly sub-drenched afternoon--what could be better?"

  • "Celebrated our anniversary at the Waterbar. Great idea. You know you are going to eat too much when celebrating so why not get a healthy start and go to a seafood restaurant? The entrees are super fresh, creatively prepared, and paired with unique flavors in the sauces and vegetables. They do offer several meat dishes for the hard core."
