We weren't sure what to order and our waitperson was terrific helping us out. She suggested the deluxe seafood tower. WOW! Some of the finest, freshest seafood. Oysters, scallops, clams, were raw and unbelievably tasty. We were given some sauces, but really not even a little lemon or tabasco was necessary. There was also cooked crab, lobster and shrimp on the platter. Service was excellent as well, always attentive, but never intrusive. It was beautifully presented and loaded with top quality sea food. The restaurant was romantically lit and the ambiance was inviting. I liked the fishing poles on the walls. The restaurant is in a beautiful old building downtown. The staff made sure we were finished in time to make the concert at Disney Hall and had a taxi waiting. We both had fish (sablefish and halibut), which was excellent--and a generous portion. Shared a side of roasted vegetables, also excellent. One of the better servers in memory: knowledgeable about the ingredients; which fish dishes might appeal based on our taste, etc.; attentive. And they brought a complimentary, delectable birthday dessert.
The only downside was that at first, they sat us at a table near the bar, where it was so noisy that we couldn't have heard each other. We had indicated on the reservation that it was a birthday dinner and we wanted a romantic table. We were pleased to find that the food was very good and better than our last visit. I had the house smoked salmon that came with a house made tartar sauce that was some of the best I have ever had. My husband had the oyster sample with very fresh oysters. Our main courses were the King Salmon simply prepared and the steamed lobster. My only criticism is that the lobster was a bit overdone and not juicy. The whiff of freshly prepared seafood dishes - mouthwatering! As a starter, we shared the seafood platter for two. My personal favorite was definitely the raw scallops. Second entree we tried was the frisee and watercress salad - light and refreshing and who doesn't love goat cheese! As our main course, we shared the lobster roll. Guests have the option of either having the lobster prepared in an aoli or simply dressed in butter. We opts for the sandwich to be prepared in butter - Amazing! Filled from the previous dishes, sadly we were unable to finish this dish. Definitely a winning choice for all seafood lovers. Water Grill is only a block for our office so it's a great place for a special lunch with friends or clients. While they raw bar and fish entrees are amazing, the appetizers and salads are good too.
