  • "Great service and they have an excellent bar tender. Cooking of the veg was a little inconsistent, so that is why 4 star."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed the food and the service. We had a play to go to and they took care of us without making us feel rushed."

  • "Seafood selection is great, a good variety of oysters, along with scallops, clams, lobster and etc served cold. We did not order everything but oysters turned out to be a nice treat. The season special of soft shell crab with watermelon salad was AMAZING!! It was just deep fried to the right crisp while the crab itself remains very flavorful!! The crudo sampler was largely a disappointment (especially after the amazing soft shell crab), the wild salmon and tuna was so bland and not fresh (You can get much fresher fish at nearby little Tokyo) that we could not discern it was fish had our eyes been covered. The sauce that went along with the crudo was also odd to our taste, wished that we had ordered something else!"

  • "First time at Water Grill and we enjoyed it very much! We had 1/2 dz. oysters and Mussels to start, then split a organic green salad. Our main courses were delicious the CA White Seabass and Petite Filet. Luis was a great server professional and personable! Thanks for a memorable evening we will be back!"

  • "Ordered Chopino-my favourite dish -this is the worst Chopino I ever had-big piece of bread underneath of the plate soak all the sauce no juice to be consumed by the way- tasteless sauce) -when I order-waitress asked if I wanted dis-shelled -please shell to be removed before serving-they served all the shelled-she forgot, about 15 minutes later ( meanwhile other our friends ate the food already)came back with my new Chopino, but no crab leg and the Mussels - all the shell fish completely removed from the dish,Manager came to apologised but no sign of substitute or compensations -we paid full $35.00 of my Chopino couldn,t eat-we have not been there long time, so we took VIP friends this time-what a disappointment, never go there again,"

  • "Had not been since the remodel a couple of years ago. Very nice yet not stuffy. Good service. Good selection of wines and beer. Enjoyed the Black Cod and the Big Eye Tuna. Will be back soon. May be the best seafood in downtown."

  • "Good place for good seafood. I will definitely return, as great lobster and shellfish."

  • "Three times the bar attempted to deliver a successful bourbon and soda and three times they failed. But it gets worse. Let's start at the beginning where we have waited 15 minutes for water. With 12 workers working 20 tables this should never never happen. Workers were too busy socializing to serve. First drink attempt comes 20 minutes later, seriously. In a tall glass with less then an oz of booze. No that's wrong. Second attempt correct glass flat water. Also not right, this is not rocket science people. Third attempt same result so I tell the waiter again. 10 min later the matre d drops a glass if peligrenio on my table. What am I supposed to do with that? Pour it over my water/drink? Matre d argued with me on leaving. No apology."

  • "In LA area for over 15 years and we eat out a lot! We were expecting much more. We did not select items off of the raw menu or have any of the fresh seafood platters - perhaps that was our mistake. We opted to try Water Grill's Cioppino. Too much Saffron, too spicy, and lacked much flavor. The fresh Halibut was cooked to perfection, but taste was very bland -- could have been much better. Even the fresh heirloom salad was uninspired. The Shrimp and Ravioli was good. Overall food was just OK. At the Water Grill we expected much more. The Water Grill's recipes rated very poor-they need an update. We usually try Cioppino if it is on the menu - restaurants all over Calif-Northwest-Italy. Skip it at the Water Grill - it needs a new recipe!"

  • "Water Grill continues to offer the best seafood in Los Angeles, always perfectly cooked (if not raw), beautifully seasoned, and served by attentive but not intrusive waitstaff. The grilled octopus is beyond compare - unbelievably tender, with just the right amount of char. I've never had a bad dish here, even when dining in large groups."

  • "I am very particular about my seafood, and this place did not disappoint. The lobster I ordered was perfectly cooked, and they even de-clawed it for me. My husband had the sea bass which was the best sea bass either of us have ever had. It was also cooked perfectly and definitely NOT frozen. All the food was extremely fresh and portions were generous. Pricey but totally worth it."

  • "The restaurant actually looks nicer than the photos in their website. The food is great and I definitely would come back when I am in DTLA."

  • "Excellent whole lobster. The freshest I think I've ever had.Very good ribeye as well. This is a pricey place to eat,to be sure. But if you want a once a year treat for seafood, this could be your place. Our waiter was very polite and efficient. The drinks were a little overpriced for the size and strength.Go to Frank and Musso's for the best cocktail you'll ever have."

  • "The sea bass and soft-shell crabs are as good seafood as you'll find ANYWHERE! (For people who don't know soft-shell crabs, they look strange but are juicy and delicious. Note: most restaurants just deep-fat fry frozen crabs. Water Grill, Prime Rib (in D.C.) and a few other places use fresh crabs - makes all the difference!) Our server (Flavio) was very helpful and accommodating."

  • "I had the mixed greens salad which was very good. Then I had the Sockeye Samson. It was good, but I don’t like fish with skin on, as it covers up the brown blood part which I do not eat. It was also swimming in juice of some sorts which I didn’t care for. The server was very good. Great attitude, humorous, friendly and attentive. the place was a bit noisy. Not the best of music."

  • "Great dinner. Will come back for the raw bar. Menu was terrific"

  • "We tried Water Grill on the recommendation of friends. We had tried several so-so seafood places in the area, but we wanted better. We found it. The raw bar is extensive. The seafood is varied and super fresh. The chef has a way with flavors. Our favorite dish was the miso-marinated sablefish which was also called cod on the menu. Vegetables are a la carte so we ordered broccolini--a great match. For dessert, the maple cheesecake was rich, but not overly sweet. I'm definitely returning on our next trip to LA."

  • "Dining at the Water Grill is like taking a small journey back in time. Nestled in a beautiful location in the commercial district of downtown, Water Grill is a perfect example of classic American dining at its best. There are no gimmicks, no flashy sous-vide or 65 degree eggs...just honest and well prepared seafood served in a sophisticated dining room adorned with maritime memorabilia, a beautifully centrally located bar and those classic tan leather chairs accompanied with brass rivets that harken back to true Americana. Pay special attention to the healthy selection of oysters, tuna poke and the amazing sea scallop crudo, as well as the whole grilled fish (head and all) prepared with lemon and caper. Seafood to die for!"

  • "What an excellent dining experience…from the moment we arrived…it was apparent that the Water Grill was going to be GREAT! Our appetizers: a Fritto Misto platter, beet salad, and assorted oysters on the half shell were extremely fresh and delicious. The Miso Cod was perfect…flavor, freshness, and texture were beyond compare. The "Deconstructed Shrimp Louie Salad" with its tender bib lettuce and succulent shrimp is to die for. And…the Choppino with a premium selection of succulent seafood and spicy broth, was presented in picture perfect fashion…sure to ooh and ahh! Water Grill is my new favorite restaurant."

  • "Great elegant see food Restaurant, excellent setting. The food is Delicious. Wether is a date or a business dinner, you should be satisfied. We've been in LA for 3 yrs, this is by far the best seafood restaurant we've had. "

  • "The octopus appetizer was fine, but the mussel appetizer should have been returned. Mostly empty shells and the mussels that were there were all shrivelled up. And, then, they had the audacity to tell Open Table that we were "no shows." I'm returning on Sunday June 1 with 3 more people and hope the food and service are better."

  • "I haven't tasted a BETTER lobster on the West Coast. The fried polenta and mushrooms was to die for. Filet mignon like melted butter. The oysters taste fresh, and there were many varieties -- each labeled with the water body where it originated. The service was cheerful and unimposing. What can I say? I would so-o-o-o-o do this again. Oh, yes, the french fries were exquisite."

  • "Watergrill has a fantastic fresh selection of seafood for everyone, including those that say they don't like it. Their preparation hits the mark to bring out the best for each dish. Prices are what you would expect for what they serve; not a corner fish and chip take-out price. The bartenders know their craft, even obscure cocktails. My only gripe was that our server needed better training. She was efficient, but not knowledgeable on most of the menu. Otherwise, a must place to go and dine without regrets."

  • "My date and I liked most of what we got, but there wee a lot of noticeable flaws in our meal. The uni toast appetizer tasted mostly like a big bite of butter. I like butter, we weren't offended; but we ordered an uni appetizer and barely noticed any sea urchin flavor. We repeatedly ordered wine with out dishes only to have the wine come out five or ten minutes after the food that we'd ordered it with. Again, this wasn't a big deal and the staff was quite friendly; but it did detract a little. My date had soft shell crabs, which were ok. My cod was fine, but the little fried okra (I think) that accompanied it had a very papery skin. No dish was bad, but the best may have been the oysters we started with, which may not flatter the kitchen."

  • "A once top of the list destination has sadly fallen hard - poor service torments this once elegant gastronomic stop - you could wait 15 minutes for your drink order to arrive - along with a warm 125 dollar bottle of wine that should be held at 55 degrees - but why bother to know that when you don't care."

  • "The food was great but the service was a little slow. We were a party of 5 at 6:00pm and we left the restaurant at 9:30. The drinks took almost 20 min and the food took almost an hour. Great beautiful restaurant but the service was defeintly slow"
