  • Nice surprise...

Tried it for the first time on a recommendation for a first date. Atmosphere was great. The wait staff was very accommodating, friendly and well timed. They explained the menu and advised us of items not on the menu. We ordered several sushi rolls throughout the evening with favorites being the Volcano and Rainbow rolls. The fish was fresh and the rolls were well crafted. The prices were reasonable as well. I almost went back the next night. I will be back for sure. Thanks for a great evening guys!!

I went to Watanabe with a few co-workers for lunch and was pleasntly surprised by our dining experience. I had never been to Watanabe before, and the lunch specials were amazing. Our server, Marcus, was wonderful. He took great care of us. The place itself is so cute, I can't wait to come back for dinner!

Lamb aptzr was overseasoned. Shrimp & grits entree was ok but not great. Some bites were loaded with pepper. Shrimp was steaming hot and rest of dish was cold. My drink glass had crud on the bottom, and the server refilled it twic without giving me a clean glass. Icky. Overall, i will not return.

Our dining experience was amazing and the food presentation and flavor was fresh and exceptional. The manager "Fielder" & our waiter "Macon" were unbelievable hosts and the service was superior. They even made sure the flowers I had delivered were at our table when we arrived. We will make this place our regular romantic destination. Highly, highly, recommended!!!!!

  • Went to Watanabe on Sunday

Went to Watanabe on Sunday night around 8pm. It was a bit quiet but hey, it was Sunday night. The place is an older building that has been converted into a "hipster" sort of retro/converted warehouse sort of theme. You would feel comfortable here dress up or down. The menu had a nice assortment although they were out of the braised short ribs. We tried several of the sushi rolls and they were all very good althogh we felt like the rice was just a bit hard and chewy. The Ahi Tuna appetizer is very nice. The bar also has a nice assortment of drinks. They call it a "mixologist bar". No doubt they could make some nice cocktails. We stuck with some basic martinis and ricky's and they were good.

We were a Party of 2 on a Wednesday night. No one was at the hostess stand when we arrived and after several minutes of waiting I called the restaurant to let them know that guests were at the front. The restaurant was empty save for 2 women at the bar. Our server seated us directly behind the women, which was slightly uncomfortable as we were obviously a couple and they were loud. The food was good-ish. My pork was overcooked and my rice was gummy. My fiancee had a better dish experience. But the sushi is amazing! Service was lacking..he spilled water on the table and on both of us while pouring...twice. IF i ever eat there again, it would be takeout.

Our family enjoyed our evening Easter meal together. It was very quiet, probably because it was Easter and there weren't as many people there. We have been there on other occasions when the place was packed! Our server was great and very helpful in explaining some items on the menu. We also enjoy going to Watanabe because it's in our neighborhood.

The food is superb. The chef delivers a NYC standard on both sushi and entrees. I would recommend this to anyone. The restaurant is in a very obscure location in East Nashville, and mapquest gave us wrong directions. Nevertheless we liked it enough to order take out for the next evening and would go again this week!

We were seated promptly, with our reservation, even though we were waiting for another couple to join us (nice). The hostess was very friendly and pleasant, water was brought to the table as we were seated (very nice). We had the moo shu pork, it was FANTASTIC and sushi, Dragon roll and spicy tuna, all very yummy! This was our first time dining here, and our friend had been several times. It was a great night out, with great food and great atmosphere! The waitress was great giving us some definitions on some specials and sushi that had stumped us. She was very great waitress. 5 stars for Wantanbe!!

As usual the East Nashville food giant wins again. The remodel on the interior really boosted the atmosphere. The food was exceptional as well. We ordered the Shrimp Pad Thai roll and the Red Dragon roll. Both were creative and unique to the average American sushi experience. You can tell the chef reaches outside the box for inspiration. Come when you are ready to dine.

We had a GREAT experience at Watanabe. The food was excellent and the service was perfect. The Scallops (regular menu item) were wonderful and the Duck (special) was amazing. I definitely will return and pass our experience on to our friends. There was plenty of parking and they were ready for us when we walked in. The bar looks like a good hang.

    Dined on 2/14/2012
Overall, we had a lovely evening. Watanabe is a favorite spot for us. We noticed the salad has changed. Contained wilted lettuce and the dressing was a bit boring. The miso soup had way too much fish stalk so I was unable to eat either. As for the sushi, it was wonderful! The only difference we noticed, was the lack of presentation that is normally one of the most outstanding things we observe. One more thing, I was in the mood for a simple crown & coke but once again, no crown. We will come again but I do hope some of these items are addressed because we do love this place!

We've been to Watanabe several times, but this was our first visit since they revamped the menu and reconfigured the layout. We had a fantastic experience. The restaurant was crowded but not loud--there was a 45 min wait for tables, but because of our Open Table reservation we waltzed right in. Our service was attentive but not obtrusive. The food was outstanding! Because of Watanabe I'm no longer able to complain that there's no good, fresh seafood in Nashville.

The spare rib dish was a disappointment. The meat portion was too small with a great deal of fat. If the suishi wasn't fantastic, it would be a last visit. A bit out of the way...but well worth the drive! Don't let the area and outside keep you from enjoying creative and delicious food...some of the best I have had in Nashville. We started the evening with two very unique cocktails...both were delicious. The mussels were plentiful, fresh and the broth delicate and flavorful. The two entrees were both delicious. The short rib was tender, great combination of spices and the root vegatables and horseradish were the perfect compliment to the dish. The seafood dish was an amazing mix of spicy heat and fragrant spices that was the pefect combination of heat and flavor. A great pricepoint for such creative cuisine. Will return again...and soon!
