Opened in late February of 2013, just off the green in historic Morristown, Washington St. Bistro is a reflection upon the culinary traditions and influences of Gen. George Washington as well as those of our Founding Fathers, while employing today's cooking techniques. Having been described as ‘Inspired Colonial Fare’, the seasonal, creative and inventive menu offers a range of distinctive flavors one can enjoy. The walls of this 40-seat American Bistro display the works of local artists and creates an ambiance that is both warm and inviting. A bit off the usual restaurant path in Morristown but well worth the two minute walk. The pork chop was amazing as was every dish we had. Try it. You will like it. a lot."

  • "The Bistro is almost hidden - a small storefront - just off The Green, but once inside the wonderful experience begins. The restaurant is small and cozy, and the tidy table settings and attentive waitress - Kelly - suggest that the dining experience will be worth the trip. And indeed it was. The menu offered several unique entree options and our party of four ordered the cassoulet, meatloaf, and two salmons. Thumbs up from everyone, ditto desserts. All things considered, particularly being a BYOB, and quality of food and service, I would rate five stars for value. The Bistro is a small gem in downtown Morristown. Gotta' go."

  • "Our first experience at Washington Bistro revealed very good food, with interesting combinations of ingredients. The menu is unlike anything else in downtown Morristown, and deserves a visit. The venue is small, so reservations may be required during weekend nights. Our server, Paul, proved to be pompous, and arrogant, providing inconsistent service. This individual proved to be a detraction to the evening. Overall we will try it again, with the hopes of a better server."

  • "My husband, mother-in-law and I ate here on a Saturday evening. We had no trouble getting a reservation two days in advance and there were a couple of empty tables most of the time we were there. The food was interesting and generally very tasty. I had scallops, which were excellent, as was the warm kale and brussels sprouts salad. Unfortunately, we found the noise level a little too high for comfortable conversation. There were times when it was fine, but some noise dampening hangings would be nice. We may be more fussy than many about this, but it definitely a consideration for us."

  • "Our second visit to Washington St. Bistro for dinner with friends. Again, the food was very good and the atmosphere relaxed. The service is just ok, just not a positive. They were able to accommodate one dinner who is gluten free without any problems. Would strongly recommend the brussell sprout hash side dish and the steamed mussels app."

Food was fresh - good house salad with not too much dressing, juicy chicken leg special, scallops with fresh pomegranate, and delicious cassoulet (although a bit dry - too long in oven). The staff was attentive, but busy. Customers appeared happy with everything and having a great time!"

  • "Three of us dined at the. WASHINGTON ST BISTRO on Saturday night. At 7 there were a few tables filled but it got much busier as the night progressed. It was a pleasant space but small. The food was very good. I shared the kale salad with my motherer-in-law and it was quite good. One thing that could have been better is if they had split the salad in the kitchen. Instead they just gave us an extra plate. My husband had the ginger carrot soup which he enjoyed. The timing of the service was off because we waited a long time for our appetizers and then our entered came before they cleared away the appetizers. The codfish cassoulet was delicious. The noise level was quite loud which was another small drawback. All in all it was a good choice."

  • "Washington St. Bistro is almost anonymous from the street ; the small, helpful "Bistro" sign caused me to find it-- thankfully! The colonial atmosphere is quaint but not overdone or "kitchsy." The carrot-ginger soup was thick and flavorful; the lamb burger was done just right to my liking and the chicken salad sandwich and sweet potato wedges were tasty and ample. The server was welcoming and friendly and timely with our food and requests. Not busy that afternoon, the bistro was relatively quiet and very conducive to lengthy conversation and laughter. Very economical for the quality. I look forward to going again for lunch or trying it for dinner."

  • "We ate at the Washington Bistro on Wednesday before seeing Rock of Ages at the MAYO. It is about a third of a mile passed the theater, clearly walkable. The restaurant has twelve tables and an eclectic menu. For appetizers we shared the French Onion Soup and PEI mussels in a sherry sauce with garlic and oregano. Both were delicious. The main courses were the baked meatloaf and the Orecchiette with Duck Confit. Again both potions were generous and very tasty. The service was wonderful and the menu will change shortly for Spring. A place to visit when dining in Morristown"

  • "After reading mostly positive reviews, my girlfriend and I went to the restaurant on Saturday. The restaurant was full and there was one waitress and a busboy. We ordered 3 apps and a main course. The french Onion soup took 15 minutes to come out and was greasy, and had a slice of cheese kind of floating on the top . The mussels were spicy and had not been advertised as such on the menu. The apple and celery root salad was diced into tiny pieces so you really couldn't taste much of the celery root. Lastly, the pork chop was ordered medium (and I specified a pink center). When the harried waitress brought it out, I cut into it and it was raw in the middle. I sent it back. It should have been put back in the oven or a saute pan. It wasn't."

  • "Overall a lovely meal. Their take on things like the cassoulet is interesting though I prefer a traditional version. The specials were the winner of the night. Disappointed they ran out of one of them prior to our dinner. Appetizers were the best, though portions are on the smaller side. Kale and brussel sprout salad, as previously mentioned in reviews is fabulous, though they should offer a vegetarian version of it. Shrimp with corn salad and the scallop specials were very tasty, as was the halibut special. Somewhat limited menu, which is why I would not rush back, though it does changes seasonally and there are specials seemingly every night. The service was perfect- just the right balance of attention versus allowing us time to talk."

  • "Last minute Valentine's Day plans resulted in our visit to Washington Street. Our good fortune! Our meals were creative without over-reaching. The salads were fresh and the dressings, a perfect complement. The brussel sprouts side was delicious, albeit very filling. The chicken breast was cooked perfectly and moist. My pork chop was likewise done to perfection, the Maple Chipotle added a nice edge to the pork. Broad menu has something for everyone. Service was attentive and responsive."

  • "This was the second time that we came to Washington St. The first time I had the duck and this time I had the rack of lamb special. Both were excellent. We had Paul as our server both times and my g/f and I agree that he is one of the best servers we've had. The bussers do an excellent job of staying on top of refilling your water too. I would, and have, recommended it to my friends looking for a nice dinner in Morristown. Prices are very reasonable, but my only request would be slightly bigger serving sizes."

  • "It seems as if the whole town wants this place to succeed since Morristown does not have a true Bistro. And this is not it. Noise level when busy ratchets up with every new table seated and you either have to shout, lean in close, or give up. The menu looks very interesting on paper, but disappoints at the table. The duck confits? Like none you've ever had, or want to, especially the signature dish with a bread crumb crust. Granted, it was a Saturday night, but stale cheesecake? Best was the service, ironic in a place like this, but worth noting the professionalism of our waiter."

  • "A little restaurant tucked in the block. Paul, our waiter, was very attentive and knowledgable about the menu. It is a BYOB. Menu was different from the norm. I chose the special Skirt Steak. Delicious. Served with a slightly spicy polenta. At our table was also the Cassoulet from the regular menu. The pork chop, and the special salmon. We shared the appetizer: a large cheese board with wonderful cheeses, fruit, nuts and bread. We don't usually have dessert but splurged. The Ginger Creme brûlée was fabulous! Small place, maybe 12-15 tables. Will definitely go back to sample more of the menu!"

  • "This is the kind of basic French restaurant every town needs. It is great that there is finally one in Morristown. Food is mostly traditional, but can be inventive such as the tasty wilted kale/brussels sprouts salad. It is a BYOB so remember to bring a nice bottle of wine. The closest liquor store has a very weak/poor wine selection, but there are plenty of good wine stores in town."
